The 49ers successfully dodged a bullet this week by giving the players a few days off and Aldon Smith did not make the news for the wrong reasons. The team went back to work Thursday and began getting ready for their game a week from Saturday.
Meanwhile, the wildcard entrants to the race for the Super Bowl are set to begin Saturday and Sunday. In the Waiting to be Slaughtered conference, the Bengals face the Texans and the Colts visit the Ravens.
I find myself rooting for the Bengals for no good reason whatsoever. Ex-49ers Nate Clements and Taylor Mays are on the team, maybe that’s what makes me lean towards them. Nate is the second string LCB and second string SS, while Mays is the third string SS. (excuse me while I snicker politely up my sleeve). Good old Taylor, well on his way to Whatever Happened to Whatshisname?
This game features two of the studliest D-linemen in the league in the Texans’ all world DE JJ Watt and the Bengals DT Geno Atkins. Everyone knows about Watt, who led the league in sacks this year as a DE, which is absurdly good. But Atkins had 12.5 sacks as a DT, which is even more absurdly excellent.
The second Saturday game is a repeat of last week’s Packers/Vikings head banger. We won’t expand on last week’s zero coverage of these two teams. It seems pretty simple: if the Packers can hold Adrian Peterson to 150 yards or so, they’ll probably win. If not, they’ll lose. Another home field playoff stinker by the Packers would cast serious doubt throughout the franchise about the toughness of their team.
The Sunday games are more interesting, from the standpoint of a fan who finds them more interesting versus a fan who finds the Saturday games more interesting. Since I belong in the former more interesting fan group, I’ll point out why. Andy Dalton, Matt Schaub, Christian Ponder in the Saturday games. Andrew Luck, Russell Wilson, RGIII in the Sunday games. And let’s not forget Joe Flacco plays Sunday, too!
When it comes to the playoffs, I have a simple set of rules for determining my rooting interests:
Step One: Go 49ers! Win the Super Bowl!
Step Two: Which team(s) would cause me the most excruciating pain if they won the SB?
1. Seattle: simply unbearable, jump off the bridge despair
2. Patriots: Tom Brady and Bill Belichick must die are intolerable
3. Green Bay: they have four trophies so far, one less than the 49ers, and that’s enough
The Bengals, Vikings, Falcons, and Texans have never won the SB, so go ahead, lesser franchises, win one. Washington has three, with a loss. Denver has two, with four losses. The Colts have two and the Ravens have one. None of these teams threatens to join the Holy Pantheon of Five Wins or more: Pittsburgh, Dallas, and the San Francisco 49ers. Only the 49ers have no losses. WE ARE THE GREATEST!!
Grumpy- From the last thread, I think Sopoaga was hurt for about half the year. I questioned his situation often. He is playing much better now. When just looking at stats these situations are ignored, as is the case with Pro Football Focus.
I would root for Seattle if they made the SB. They don’t have a win, I always root for a team to get their first one. As far as who do I want to play next week? I’ve always found that picking your opponent is dangerous. You get the desired match up, get over confident, and then lose. I’m just rooting for good games this week end.
you mean like we all wanted the giants to beat the pack last year so we could have home field advantage
Berger
I totally disagree. No way no how can I root for the Seahags to win anything. To me right now they are our main rivals and Richard Sherman and Petey are a one two punch that turns my stomach.
It would be intolerable if they won. I really can’t stand Petey
and he would be insufferable if they won.
I have no sympathy for them never winning a Super Bowl. They need to get in line with the other teams.
bullit- The couthie Berger has no problem with your opinion.
Some of the draft boards have really changed and will change some more with the combine.
Two new names at QB in the first round are Glennon from NC State and Boyd from Clemson.
The Chefs are picking first this year and the draft board is similar to 2005 when the Niners had the first pick and there was not a consensus #1 sure thing pick. If the Chefs decide on picking a QB it’ll be a huge reach.
Berger
Had to look up couthie. You could have made it simple and said congenial.
Did I mention I hate Cheatin Petey both in college and in the Pros?
Pioli was just fired as the Chef’s GM so it looks like Reid in KC.
NFL Network said for an offensive minded coach Reid has devoted some high draft picks to his Oline
in Philly but the problem was with his choices. He always went for the pass protectors who were mediocre run blockers and that was his big downfall.
KC is a running team so this should be interesting since he has names Castillo ( his failed D Coordinator) as his Oline coach in waiting.
bullit- Couthie was the Word of the Day!
Good to see your head back in the dictionary again, Berg. I resisted any tawdry insinuations about where your head had been residing previously.
Berger
Didn’t know what couthie meant but have heard uncouth used and understand that and know what cooties means.
I still remember preparing for taking the SATs 40 years ago reading “Enriching Your Vocabulary” and also the box of vocabulary cards.
The sleeper pick that everyone seems to know about is Ezekial “Ziggy” Ansah DE/OLB from BYU.
Raw but physically similar to Aldon Smith and has only played football for 2 years.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUa5XMyMzxE
Round one of the kicking competition had Akers making 16 out of 21 and Cundiff 10 out of 12 yesterday.
Not sure the reason why Akers had 9 more attempts.
The revelation that Akers is not 100% has to come into play in the decision.
Perhaps Harbaugh will use Akers 35 yards in and Cundiff on kickoffs and longer FGs if they keep both active.
If we keep both Akers and Cundiff active for next Saturday night. I will openly root for the Packers to beat Harbaugh’s stupid ass into submission and call for his head on a pike. And that’s being couthie.
The real question is, if you keep both kickers active, who do you make inactive? Is there really an option there? Without critically weakening your ST?
If so though, I’d be more likely to agitate for Tolzien to be active so you have a third QB just in case. We don’t even have KW to fall back on now. I really do not want to see Ted Ginn at QB due to disaster.
Good call on Atkins.
There may be a natural affinity for the Bengals, as a fan of the Niners, considering their history.
Berger- It has been awhile since we truly have had a serious rival. To me the Cowboys and Rams will always hold that distinction but as of recent times Seattle and AZ both have been thorns in the side. There is no way I would root for the “F-ing pustules” that are the Seattle Seawads. I want them to not even smell the SB.
Is that wrong?
Looks like Chip Kelly to the Brownies.
They might be the first NFL team without a punter.
It’ll be interesting to see if unorthodox translates to the NFL
and if they succeed in running over a hundred plays a game on offense. Of course to achieve that you have to sustain drives
which is not that easy to do when you face a decent defense.
winder- The couthie Berger has no problem with your opinion!
bullit- I don’t think Kelly runs anything unusual for college. For the pros he’ll have to run his QB less but some teams are starting to run the QB more. The Seattle Washington game will feature two of them. What he does that is so unusual is his tempo and going for it so often on 4th down. Just my opinion.
The coach for Texas A&M, Sumlin, is really good.
Landry Jones is throwing over the top instead of trying to be the next Deiter Brock. That should help his draft stock. I’m not sure anything will help his decision making.
I tend to think new coaches should get their defense in order first. Chip Kelly should turn that on its head though. He gambles on 4th down a lot, and he needs an offense that can make those gambles pay off. And a QB who can run an offense at that tempo. If that is not Weeden, he needs to make that call before the draft. Either way, he needs a major upgrade of weapons on the offensive side. If he turns the ball over on 4th down 3/4 of the time, he’ll never get the seasons he needs to finish building his team. Offense first in Cleveland, I think. Either way, his attempt will be one of the more fascinating things to watch in the NFL for the next 2 to 4 years. Either he becomes the new model for imitation / plagiarism, or he fails spectacularly.
Grumpy- I could see either scenario. I don’t think he does well in the pros. But he’ll get a good contact, get fired in the middle of it and be able to pick and choose his job when he goes back to the college game. The other thing is Oregon is being investigated by the NCAA. This is the best opportuninity to do what I mentioned in the last sentence. He’s hot now, will he be in one or two years? Strike before it is too late. Strike while the iron is hot!
The funny thing is if Chip Kelley gets the Browns job Colt McCoy becomes the best QB instad of Wheedon.
Well, I hope Chip realizes he can’t bring Phil Knight with him.
Seems like the ‘ol’ ball coach’ kinda deal, expecting to turn the NFL on its head with a system that works in college against less across the board talent and simplified schemes. But it’ll be fun to see the coach find out why the go-for-it mentality belongs more to the NFL fans than its head coaches.
Give the fans what they demand and you’ll soon be joining them, or something like that.
*Unless Kelly chooses to deal for an ex-NFL starter, who makes few mistakes and runs a fairly conservative but mostly effective ball control offense. Stir in more imaginative play calling and strategy, and upgrade the roster as a whole, and by 2014-2015, things could become very entertaining.
Nothing could possibly be more fascinating than Super Bowl XLIX, in January 2015, matching Kelly’s heroes against perennial NFC powerhouse San Francisco.
IMO, NFL teams do not go for it on 4th down enough. Conversely, Chip Kelley goes for it too often.
The place where a team should go for 4th down more often is if they are in FG range and the FG does not give them a two score advantage, and a first down allows them to run out the clock. First down means game over, anything else means the game is still in limbo.
Today’s WOTD is the same as yesterday. The couthie Berger is OK with that!
The WOTS is if Falcons director of personnel David Caldwell becomes Jags GM, Greg Roman will be his HC.
If you really want the Word on the Street, go see Johnny the Shoeshine Guy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QS6ViQtNfQo&list=PLD9EF3E5CC7CB8CFE
That’s two Lasordas for me this morning. Nothing like a Dodger Dog to lessen the load!
I would rather see Roman leave for another job than Tomsula.
I believe Tomsula is underappreciated and has molded a
Dline and made Justin Smith into a Pro Bowl player. He is like Bobb McKittrick in developing players.
Tell Roman to get an aumildar and Tomsula to stay put!
We need to start retooling our D-line. Tomsula is the coach I’d like to see here for that. The good thing is we don’t need a major overhaul as McDonald and RJF are worthy players. But Sope is getting old and is a FA. Losing Justin Smith might be something we can’t replace. We got lucky to replace Bryant Young with Smith, can we do it again?
BTW, as much as Mike Nolan could not build a good D-line for us, he did get Justin Smith before he was jettisoned. Maybe he was starting to see the light.
Based on how we got our a**es kicked by SEA, I SHOULD not want to play them again en route to the SB. But I can’t help but want to beat them in order to get there. I’ve always felt kind of wimpy wanting for a supposedly “easier” matchup.
Maybe I’m still licking the wounds of that smackdown, but I see SEA as a lot more formidable than many pundits, and fans. I think they’ll beat WAS, and it won’t be close. 30-13, Seattle.
In other news, HOU rebounds from being terrible for the last 4 weeks to being not as good as they think, but good enough to beat CIN at home. Closer game, 27-17.
Baltimore or Baltiless? Which one shows? Less. Flacco, who doesn’t get a lot of respect, but gets what he deserves (in between line reading alert) throws as many INTs as Luck (2), but not as many TDs (3). Indy with the upset, 31-20.
Finally, in a game with huge consequences. I believe that if MIN beats GB, we actually get another bye. Some strange quirk in scheduling, no doubt. But alas, they won’t. Rogers is tossing lasers, the MIN secondary is tossing cookies. GB gets ahead too quickly to make AP relevant. 38-17, GB.
Holy Crap! Da Bears are interviewing Eddie DeBartalo’s favorite coach.
The NFL just loves to recycle the mediocre.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/01/05/report-bears-will-interview-marc-trestman/
Hey! Marc Trestman won two Grey Cup Championships.
Alouette, gentille Alouette
Alouette, je te plumerai
I think Marc Tressman’s bad play calling was more of a by product of George Sieffert over riding his plays that were called.
Yeah, Tomsula’s been a great asset for us. Nobody’s got a better W/L as HC and who doesn’t like a guy who coached the Claymores.
I forget who brought him here.
I like all four home teams this weekend. Expecting big wins today, close games tomorrow.
Forgot to mention Manny Lawson still playing for the Bengals, too.
If Gamble does in fact land the GM gig in NY with the Jets, I’m hoping for a hometown IOU to SF for Alex.
The NYJ are firmly in the
‘fix it all costs’ mode of thinking right now.
I seriously doubt that they would survive the wrath of the Fans, by trotting the Sanchize out there next Spring.
But…they are the NYJ for a reason.
As a good friend, and life-long Jets fan has told me, on numerous occassions, they are working on the 100 year plan.
Was about to review that as well Skeebs, thought Manny was still an active participant in Cincy.
Good catch.
Looking more and more likely that Joe Webb will start tonight for Minnesota. If Aaron Rodgers loses to Joe Effing Webb they’ll discontinue his State Farm Discount Double Check commercials. C’mon, Joe Webb. Do the world a favor.
Hoping we can see Seattle or Washington in Atlanta next week.
I’ve been of the belief that GB should take care of MN tonight.
Us facing GB at home will be a test certainly but, I actually think Atlanta can easily be upset by either Seattle or DC, meaning we could then host the NFCC game once again.
May we summon all the collective 9ers mojo in the world this month…
PLEASE send healing thoughts and prayers to Justin for 3 more games of solid WINNING contributions.
The line on the MIN/GB game went from 8 to 9 1/2 in a heartbeat with the Joe Webb news. I guess the public still yearns for cut rate insurance.
Looks like Andy Reid has traded in Philly Cheesesteaks for KC Ribs.
Can the man get any larger?
Schaub vs Dalton. The race to see who flubs the game the most.
I only wish we could land a deal for Alex like Atlanta did for Schaub.
Schaub is about to be lumped in with Flacco and Romo, as guys that get there but, fall short when it counts.
Dalton was supposedly the QB Baalke wanted to draft, but Harbaugh convinced him to take Kaepernick.
Gonna be huge pressure on Matty Ice as well.
Granted, I’m not without my reservations about Kaep in a tough Playoff spotlight but, we have a very solid Team around him.
Just hoping we can minimize QB ‘interference’ when it matters most.
I liked Dalton as well Skeebs.
If Harbaugh made the Kaep pick who am I to argue?
Ironically, Dalton went and we jumped up for Kaep.
Maybe Dalton got away?
Is what it is.
Hopefully Kaep has a very high ceiling.
Dalton is 4 of 10 for 3 yards. Watt’s in his face and his head.
After we moved up to pick Kaep I immediately thought we were targeting one and would be happy no matter which fell to us. I even told this to Del when he called me screaming mad that we picked Kaep. When Dalton got picked we made the move to make sure we did not miss out completely. I don’t know if that is true, but that is what I thought. I still think that is true. Being a fan of Kaep’s here in Reno from when he was in college I was very happy we picked him. I told Del to not bet against Kaep because the kid is a winner. We’ll see about that next week.
Have to figure Kaeps’ ex-coach from Nevada Reno Chris Ault would get serious consideration on the SF Staff if Roman departs too Berger.
Not a bad option I’d say.
Looks like Ponder will see the sideline for his 1st Playoff opportunity.
Not sure what that means for GB, other than, make the QB beat you.
If GB plays Toreador, like they did in MN last week with AP, it sure won’t matter who’s under Center.
Did you guys see the boiler on the great Earl Campbell? Looks like he’s carrying triplets.
I like Ponder as a QB but I like Joe Webb too. I think he can start in the NFL. Ponder had one knock in college, he was hurt a lot. The Vikes should be OK with Webb, their running game is their bread and butter anyway.
I’ve got 2 Kickers for you Berger.
Chris Boswell from Rice –
270 career pts
Chandler Catanzaro Clemson –
305 career pts
Both guys 6’2″ 200lbs.
Both bigger guys and should translate into the NFL pretty well.
See what April holds…..
I’m happy to see Rutgers CB Logan Ryan declare too.
Not a bad prospect.
Pretty good crop of Jr DBs declaring.
Should help us somewhere in the slotting.
without ponder the vikes are toast imo
right SKEEBS ! i knew there was another 9er in cincy ! i still like lawson and think he could have been a big help to us in these playoffs ! too bad he signed elsewhere !
oh well , go cincy !
I like Hopkins from FSU, but I haven’t seen the other two. Hopkins gets a nice high trajectory and he was either 5/6 or 6/7 from beyond 50 yards. Hopkins kicked more FGs than any other kicker in NCAA history. I’ve got him targeted for our 2nd pick in Rd #3. Last time I said that the Lions took Hanson in Rd #2 in the 90’s. I really like Henery last year but I thought we had a kicker. One double hernia later we didn’t.
ROB- I see you capitalize your name recently! I was a big Manny Lawason fan too. I don’t think this coaching staff was much interested in him.
Jr DE Corey Lemonier from Auburn declared too.
6’4″ 242
He’s a nice looking prospect.
WR Justin Hunter from TN also coming out.
6’4″ 205 4.49
The list grows….
Lots of information to digest.
Calcified mass, double hernia. Why don’t we just draft a kicker who doesn’t have a strong leg but makes up for it by not being accurate. Oh wait, we already did that when we wasted a 4th rd pick on Jeff Chandler from Florida. Thank you, Terry Donahue.
JOINING IN …
(SKEEBS , BERGER, WINDER ETC.)
i’m not really down on seattle either ! yes , they’re our main rival for the division but if we’re out i’ll go with the team from our division first ! next i’ll root for the team from our conference in the superbowl !
the teams i really hate and always will are dallas and oakland ! i’ll always want new england , new york and pittsburgh out too , for the obvious reason !
don’t forget , as much as it’s fun to throw a bucket of cold water on old pete’s sideline antics , he is a member of the 49er family ! i thought he was a pretty good defensive coordinator for us ! that goes a long way with me !
Rob, I’ll throw a large bucket of warm piss on Pete.
He’s a douche.
Hated Division rival now.
NJ- For that warm bucket of piss we’re all going to need to start drinking more beer!
BERGER
” Manny Lawason fan too. I don’t think this coaching staff was much interested in him.”
as much as a like harbaugh , i think he might have been a victim if new-coach-itis ! with so many things to do when he took over as coach he probably relied on baalke for a report on lawson ! the evaluation probably went something like this
” well he was draftedin rd. 1 as a passrusher but hasn’t done a whole lot to justify that pick …what do you think coach ?”
Down goes Cincy.
Not a problem Berger.
I’ll be consuming my fair share next weekend when we play.
Hope to have another contribution ready for the NFCC Round too.
Be it Pete, Shanny or Mike Smith.
ROB- As much as I like Lawson it is hard to argue with 13-3 and 11-4-1. I think this coaching staff is doing OK. My biggest beef with this coaching staff is the SCO play calling, but I still have to say, 13-3 and 11-4-1. I’m just hoping this coach isn’t another Schottenheimer or Knox. IOW, get us to the play-offs but that’s it because they are too conservative with the offense and they’ll settle for a FG instead of being more aggressive on 1st and 2nd down in the red zone.
All I care about at this point is, handling our business.
Move forward.
test
rob- I see you’ve downsized!
Rob
Look at it this way, if Niners had kept Lawson they might not have drafted Aldon Smith.
End of story.
ROB made a piss contribution and shrunk to rob.
Dennis
Earl Campbell is arthritic in his knees and back and walks with the aid of canes or a wheelchair.
He took a lot of punishment with his style of running.
About 20 years ago Campbell couldn’t find his way home after experiencing an anxiety attack due to memory loss.
Campbell is one of the top five backs in the history of football
and I am proud to say I saw his phenomenal talent at Texas.
I would imagine that Campbell doesn’t get much exercise because of the constant pain he lives with.
With Ponder out the Vike’s backup QB is McLeod Bethel-Thompson the ex Niner preseason QB from Sac State.
Reports have Bill Polians’ Son Brian going to become the new HC at Nevada.
BULLIT
good coaches (harbaugh) and good GM’s (baalke) usually get it right ! with lawson i don’t think they had enough time to look at him as a keena turner type player INSTEAD of PASSRUSHER !
the other factor imo was that lawson had pretty much given up on us as a serious franchise , and wanted out !
bummer
Bullit, I know Campbell’s condition. No need to get so defensive. It was just a joke.
If I could have a RB for one year at the height of his career it would be Earl Campbell.
NJ- I read that earlier. Their are 5 candidates they have interviewed so far. I like what I read about the coach from E Washington. Get me whoever recruits the best D-line talent.
Here’s where having all the attention focused on AP will get the GB Defense over pursuing.
DeLuca, for all the sh!t Lawson took for his lack of sacks we used him in coverage much more than pressure. He was excellent in coverage and against the run. It didn’t help that he suffered a season ending injury early in his second year either. We don’t ask Aldon Smith or Brooks to do the things Manny did but for some the comparison is still made on QB pressures.
Might be the Vikings night. Joe Webb needs to be punished for that idiotic pass. Lucky that wasn’t intercepted. If the Packers lose the late great John McKay should not only be for their execution, he should carry it out.
NoFear49er, Aldon isn’t the cover guy Manny was anymore than Manny was the pash rusher Aldon is.
Hard to find a guy adept at both assignments.
My feeling was that too much pressure was applied to Manny to be a sack artist.
Del the problem is on the MN Defense to keep this game close.
They won’t win a track meet.
No doubt the Coaching Staff in MN figured it was a wash with, or without Ponder.
Just hope that if GB wins, MN beats them up in the process.
Maybe take them into OT?
Webb is trying to rush everyrthing. He needs to just settle down.
Well, there’s one in the go-for-it column, or things to do when your kicker sucks.
NJ, eventually at some point Joe Webb will have to demonstrate to me that he can throw the damn ball. I haven’t seen it yet.
See. That’s exactly what I’ve been saying…Packers went for it on 4th and 5 and made the 1st down. Screw kicking. Score TDs!
GB goes for it on 4th and 5 instead of trying for a 52 yd FG. That isn’t ballsy, it’s smart.
But then Mike McCarthy negates all that by going SCO at the goal line and settling for 3. Jesus H. Christ. It’s not that difficult. Spread the formations you stupid mook.
Webb and Ponder is about a wash in the passing column for me Del.
Agree he has to keep them honest however.
MN needs to keep the GB Defense on the field and keep this game close.
AP will be a much bigger factor if he can work on a tired D.
3rd and goal from the 1 and they hand it off to the FB up the middle. If I were ever made an NFL HC, I would never run the ball again. Never. Ever. Ever.
NoFear- There are times to go for it and times you don’t. I don’t agree with how often Chip Kelley goes for it but I’d rather that than the stodgy conservative, lose play-off games, conservative play calling that so many coaches employ. I did agree with the call to kick the FG on 4th and 2 from the 2. A 19 yd FG is a Gimme, a 52 yd FG is tough in this weather.
After that series I’d suggest Webb stick to running and handing off.
That’s the point, Berger. Crosby’s been worse than Akers lately. It would have been universally panned if they didn’t convert that and gave the ball back to MIN midfield. A Vikes FG would have virtually tied the score. It’s a risky move, that’s all. You’re a genius when it works and an idiot when it doesn’t.
This is starting to look like a GB takeover.
MN can’t get their D off the Field and their O isn’t moving the sticks.
Minnesota runs an offense that is not QB friendly. I know a good running game is a QBs best friend, but I say that is not true if a team always rushes from running formations and throws from passing formations. Why don’t you just tell your opponent what you just called. That is one of the huge advantages of the Spread, nothing is telegraphed before the snap. If a team can run from the Spread a running game is the QBs best friend.
That last pass by Rodgers to Nelson on the sideline was definitely worthy of a Discount Double Check. Impressive.
NoFear- Agreed.
Last thing we want is GB resting starters in the 4th Qtr.
Let’s get things rolling here MN.
Joe Webb is not a NFL passing QB. Plain and simple.
This just in: The NFL is a passing league.
I think Webb needs a long sleeve under shirt to be a little warmer. He looks bad. I’ve watched him many times and he has never looked like this.
Webb is throwing 40yd passes on 20yd routes.
That should prove impressive… if he were competing in a PP&K Contest.
Geez, he’s killing this game.
Webb couldn’t even complete that last pass that the Pack was giving him as the half ended. He threw it 5 yds in front of the feet of his receiver.
“Game over, man. Game over.”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsx2vdn7gpY
Berger if his arm was any warmer he might be throwing 55yd passes on 20yd routes.
Don’t think he’s cold.
I just think he’s that bad.
Overmatched for the big stage perhaps?
I think he is a ball of nerves and being cold might be making it worse. Hell, I don’t know, I’m just throwing things out for thought because I’ve seen him look really good in the past.
Hey, Minnihaha does have 6 yards passing through one half!
On 3rd and 2, the Pack went 4 wide and threw the ball for 10 yds and a 1st down. What a concept.
Del- The Spread is only allowed for smart coaches. Coaches that don’t live in the 70’s and 80’s.
Hey rob, good to see ya. I usually root for conference and division but when it comes to the Dodgers, Cowboys, and now Seattle there is no stinkin way. I really want bad things to happen to them.
That’s a back-breaker penalty.
OK, you better hope the Vikes break Rodgers’ leg before it’s done, or we’re in trouble.
But I don’t stop there. If they don’t break his leg, I’ll pray for their plane to crash on its decent to SFO. That’s how my mind works. I’m a sick mofo.
Joe Webb needs help from Joe Friday about now! I just told wifey we’re playing GB next week at the Stick.
OMG- Minnihaha goes Spread and completes a 9 yd pass! Remember, Singletary is the asst HC in Minnihaha.
Minnihaha needs to go Spread on 1st down. They really are resisting. Somebody tell Frazier it is an effective formation to run from.
Instead, they wait to go Spread until it is a passing down and Clay Matthews strips him from behind. Frazier should go back to coaching college.
MN needs to add 2 more players on both sides of the ball tonight Berger.
They are clueless.
When bad coaching meets bad QBing you’ve got no chance.
Well there goes the only guy making tackles for them now.
Harrison Smith looks like he’s done.
The fat lady is warming up.
Wifey is playing some Mowtown. Marvin Gaye is spinning right now. It does sound good. I might need to go party soon.
NJ- You loved Harrison Smith out of college. Looks like you got that one right.
Let’s hope AP beats up the GB Defense for us at least.
Eddie Kendricks, Rick James. Wifey is on a roll!
I’d have taken him Berger.
Kid comes to play.
Tell her to bust out some Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes.
Ponder looks to have his starting job safe for next year.
Can’t go wrong with some Barry White either.
She just put on the Santana Brothers CD. I’m out of here. I’ll come back for a few comments now and then.
The Ohio Players, baby. The best funk band not named Tower of Power hands down. Best album covers as well.
.
Dennis is already pissing his pants about GB right on schedule. What a maroon. GB looks pretty pedestrian tonight.
Here is where you wish GB had Tony Romo so Minnihaha would have a chance at a come back.
Chuck, I may be a maroon, but you’re about as sharp as a sack of wet mice.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNAtGmQ6i3o
Don’t need a MN comeback.
We need MN to beat them up until the final whistle blows.
From the Santana Brothers CD. This is called Contigo:
http://youtu.be/GCHh2scbAnE
NJ- My wife says to send some Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. We don’t have any.
See what I can do Berger.
down goes frazier
That’s where Teddy Pendergrass got his start.
Philly Soul.
Here’s a top hit of theirs.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhuZxaqj99g
I goota say, Harold sounds good. is he Motown? He sounds Motown. I love Motown!
Philly Soul Berger.
Just as good in my book.
Did somebody mention Tower of Power? I saw them live with one of their former drummers.
http://youtu.be/vh5YoFy8pSQ
The former drummer got too drunk at my house too often. I had to ask him not to come over anymore if he is drinking. He a good guy, he just can’t handle drinking and associating.
Have him over if we host Seattle in the NFCC Game Berger.
He can contribute to the large bucket of warm piss.
Maybe we can make it a keg-o-used beer for Cheat’n Pete.
Filtered by a host of 9er kidneys.
Speaking of Santana…

Hard to believe, but this will be Aaron Rodgers first game at the ‘Stick vs the 49ers. The team he grew up watching. The team who drafted Alex Smith > him and made him wait all day in the Green Room. I think he’s still pissed.
Hail Mary, full of grace
We need to win, what can be done?
Crash their plane, in airspace
Oh what joy, you son of a gun.
We need some Bloodstone

Classic!
NJ- I would rather give him a 12 pack and tell him to go talk to Petey! It would make the news for sure.
Whatever works Berger, 3 more WINS, no hostages, no excuses.
SB or BUST!
After we shred the cheeseheads next week we’ll be singing

SAY WHAT???
bullit- First we need to cut the cheese!

In case you missed it The Kennedy Center honored Led Zeppelin a few weeks ago. Long Live Rock N ROLL!

Worth seeing and damn we’re all getting old!
bullit- Wow! That was awesome. I love me some Led Zeppelin.
A little story. The Yard Birds were breaking up and Jimmy Page filled in to help fulfill their tour contract. He wanted to name his new band the New Yard Birds and the old Yard Birds threatened to sue. They offered Pete Townsend to join the new band and he said, that will go over like a lead balloon. The band, being demented as they were, like many of us, loved it and wanted to use that as their name. The manager recommended to change Lead to Led so the pronunciation would not be confused, and rumor has it because of Jimmy Paige’s dry humor they changed Balloon to Zeppelin because of the Hindenburg disaster. Hence, Led Zeppelin!
Two games down, two losers ousted, two yawners. Maybe we can get some excitement today?
Ref Mike Carey said that fumble was recovered by “Indiana.” Jones?
The Indianas are making the best of a gift call.
Not many teams plan for a backup coach. Nice to see the zebras filling in.
Vernon’s little brother wishing the fish ‘well’ with his playoff appearance.
Looks like Gamble is zeroing in on the Jets GM job.
Now that Pagano is on the sideline Arians is in the hospital.
So Nick Montana has signed a letter of intent to play for Tulane. He is enrolling out of a JC and should be eligible for the NFL Draft in 2015.
NoFear- What river were you the other day were the temp was -27? We broke the freezing mark today, it is presently 37 degrees!
Luck ran out for the Colts. Helluva year for a team that was 2-14 just a year ago.
I guess I’ll root for the ‘Skins coming up next. They’d probably have the best chance of knocking out ATL next week and possibly giving us the NFC Championship Game at home. Berger made a great point that SEA would have to make its second cross-country trip in back-to-back weeks should they win today. Don’t think it matters though. Falcons should beat whomever they play next week. They’re due to win a playoff game.
Seahawks are laying an egg right now.
We need to birl Aaron Rodgers often on Saturday.
NOFEAR
nice reply about lawson ! i agree 100%
i’m pulling for shanahan , josh morgan and the skins today !
Makes me want to go South of the Border. http://tinyurl.com/a7s7djv
Berger, the reference was to the Yukon River, a little south of Dawson, YT.
Thanks DeLuca, I know you do!
Some post game action with a guy turning into the biggest ahole
in the league from Florio
“After the Seahawks closed out a 24-14 win that featured 24 unanswered points after falling into a 14-point hole, Redskins tackle Trent Williams let his frustrations get the better of him.
FOX cameras showed Williams shoving his hand into the face of Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman after the game.
Though it doesn’t excuse Williams’ behavior, the notoriously talkative Sherman seemed to be saying plenty to the Redskins and their sideline during the game. And Sherman likely was talking a lot after the game ended.”
ya know I am all for playing through injuries and admire those who do, however, I think Shannie did RG3 a great disservice by keeping him out there. If I’m RG3’s agent the possibility of career ending injuries due to lack of mobility would be formost in my mind. The kid is just a Rookie and has a long career ahead of him.
Shanahan is getting heat for not pulling RG3 sooner (second quarter?) when he reinjured his bad knee. Ultimately it did cost them the game with the errant snap at their own five sealing the game for the Seahags.
Bravado is one thing but clearly if you are so limited that you can’t function you need to pull yourself for the good of the team. RG3 said there was no way he was coming out. Then you better perform at the expected level and not lose the game.
It’s up to the 9ers now to take care of their business next Saturday.
Hoping we do of course.
Seattle is hot, Atlanta has something of a challenge on their hands too.
Be great to have us win, Seattle comes to us or we play in the GA Dome.
Hoping for a 9er 3 game run.
Four game run if you include the last win over the Cards.
Need 3 more Berger, I’m hoping for our mojo to change with GB.
2 observations from the Redskins game today.
Hankerson has alligator arms and, Josh Morgan has lousy hands.
If we survive and face Seattle for the NFCC, the ‘Skins showed that blitzing with the DBs was successful in keeping RWilson contained.
I’d agree with that strategy.
Easier to run him down with DBs than OLBs or DEs.
I would also like to see our April Draft net us a couple of interior DLmen to plug up the middle.
Hard to know at this moment if Ice is done as a 9er after the Season but, we need some players like Cincy and Seattle have inside.
We need to incorporate some surprises as Shanny did today too.
Get some little used players to score in the Red Zone.
Celek, LMJ and Bruce would be ideal candidates.
Randy needs to have his number called more often as well.
Secret Weapon time.
Not even going to venture an opinion on AJ.
I’d like to think he’s capable but…he’s been a complete unknown commodity to this point in time.
Richard Sherman was taunting Trent Williams after the game and Willims shoved him in the face to get him away. I could really learn to dislike Sherman.
What’s taking you so long?
He’s as bad as DeAngelo in DC.
Sherman is a punk.
Fits in great with Pete.
He needs to get rolled into a collision with someone big and mean.
Glad Trent slugged him.
I think Anthony Davis would love to have a shot.
New post is up.
