Through a Glass Darkly

Baseball is starting up again, with plans for a 60 game season. The NBA plans on having playoffs based on teams’ abbreviated records from last year’s interrupted season. Golf is back, fanless for now. Players are using theĀ best disc golf bags and equipment for this season. And the NFL keeps insisting there will be a full season this year.

Sure, fellas, whatever you say. We’ll be watching something, for sure, but it ain’t going to be anything like a normal season. The healthiest teams are definite contenders in the playoffs, and this year that might be the sole criteria for the final two teams that are still able to field 22 players.

For the next month, we’ll keep our eyes on baseball. If the teams can get through training camp without a constant flow of players testing positive for COVID and heading to the quarantine corner for two or more weeks, maybe football has a chance. But football has twice as many players as a baseball roster, and all bunched together in locker rooms and butting heads on the field.

Color me skeptical.

Sports Talk radio chatter that the Niners might be interested in trading for disgruntled S Jamal Adams fueled by little Grant Cohn.

The Jest would want 2 #1 picks for him or some combo of high picks. His contract has 2 more years left and he’s asking $20 mil plus. Adams would be an upgrade over Taart but not worth the draft capital and contract that he’s going to demand. If they trade for him they will be following in the footsteps of the Rams.

I want to see how they work this in baseball. I truly don’t see working but at least it won’t be from not trying. I don’t see how football could kick off with contact the way it is. we will see. If nothing else I am enjoying picking up FF teams so i guess that’s something.

Adam Gase was almost the head coach of the Niners.
He’s had 2 head coaching jobs and an OC job since the time where he was almost hired.
The Niners might have dodged a bullet because it turns out he is not a players coach and does not inspire his players. He failed in Miami and is most likely going to do the same with the Jest.

Once considered a can’t miss head coach that everyone was bidding on he still is looking for footing and his future is uncertain.

Some guys are meant to be coordinators and being a Head Coash is too much for them. Gase might just be like Norv Turner

I don’t think I’ve ever watched that game.

Niners target higher valued positions to spend their limited dollars and draft capital. SS versus LT. CB versus SS.

Trent Williams is a must have. Adams should not even be on the radar screen. Paying Trent allows us to keep our2021 1st and 2nd for a CB and IOL.

After this year thankfully there might be only 2 preseason games.

Remember when they were called exhibition games? From 1970 through 1977, the NFL season consisted of 14 regular season games and six exhibition games,

The problem with preseason games are when the second and third string guys get into the game they are usually playing against similar guys from the other team. If they do well and rack up some highlights it must be taken with a grain of salt as that spectacular TD might have been against a CB that wouldn’t be with the team come Monday.

Since most preseason games are duds playing two is about right. Can’t imagine how we sat thru 6 back then.

Yeah, and you pay full price.

    Javon Kinlaw signs contract.

Nice. First step in not being a show me the money dick head.

    Brandon Aiyuk signs, also.

OG Brandon Brooks of PHI and a high dollar contract, tore his Achilles and presume is out for the season . Kinlaw can show his stuff.

Please Lynch no more mortgaging the future. Great opportunity for Hurd and Pettis to make the most of deebo’s rehab time. Preseason games are more meaningful this summer.

Glad I reread the bio. We are set at OC. Garland is a super backup at center and good enough to start. He can pass pro and not be bullrushed at 308 lbs.

Actually feel OK with oline. Have Garland and McKivitz to backup IOL. Weakness probably Brunskill at RG since on the light side. At least we can cover if Richburg can’t recover 100%.

Our cap is good considering a SB contending roster and QB is cheap for a quality vet.
