For those of us with fertile imaginations or ravenous little children, Peter Cottontail will be hop, hop, hopping into view this weekend, and I’m sure we all breathlessly await his arrival. In keeping with the Tradition perversion fetish of the 21st Century, Mr. C-Tails will be carrying an NFL marketing contract in his back pocket and replacing his basket of eggs with a football helmet filled with little chocolate footballs. Shamed as I am to admit it, but this pleases me. I never liked biting off Peter’s head and munching it down like some depraved cannibal.
Easter, like Christmas, has a religious and a secular significance. Christmas is about the birth of Jesus Christ and Easter is about His death and resurrection. How the secular world has managed to cram a fat old goofball like Santa and an indiscriminate baby machine like Peter into these solemn events is a mystery of civilization that no uncivilized society would ever entertain. They might be cow worshipers, but never, ever would they chow down little chocolate moo mooers in wanton sacrilege.
Then again, Sunday marks the beginning of the 2013 baseball season, which probably holds greater interest to many of you than either salvation or gift laden bunny rabbits. The SF Giants are defending World Champions. The SF 49ers are not. In the previous century, this was equation was reversed. The Giants always choked and the 49ers never did.
2013 will be Jim Harbaugh’s third year as captain of the Good Ship Niners. Year three has been a problem for every 49er coach since Bill Walsh — thirty-two years ago. Walsh won the SB in his third year. George Seifert’s team missed the playoffs for the first time in ten years during his third year as HC. Steve Mariucci had two great years, then crashed along with Steve Young in Arizona. Dennis Erickson got the pink slip before the third year. Mike Nolan had two promising years, then flamed out. Mike Singletary went bust in his third and final year.
Can Harbaugh beat the odds this year? History is not on his side. No Super Bowl loser has come back to win it all since the early 70’s Dolphins. There’s also the matter of the Seattle Seahawks, who thrashed the Harbaughians pretty convincingly last December. And that pesky third year jinx.
The first paragraph makes me want to buy a chcolate bunny and bite the head off, then eat the rest. I’ll wait until next week when they’ll be heavily discounted.
27 days until the Draft.
Ever since Baalke has been the GM
it is a certainty that nobody has been able to predict his first round picks.
If you say you did you’re a liar.
Aldon Smith and AJ Jenkins were not even in the endless pre draft discussions on the blogs and certainly were not part of any mock drafts for the Niners.
Will Baalke stick to his M.O. and pull another rabbit out of the hat? (bunny reference is for Easter purposes only)
Well, 2010 we all knew Baalke was going after O linemen. Although that was partly McCloughan’s draft. Even if he was jettisoned a month before that draft.
We’d be better off with a Cadbury Egg or a box of Peeps playing safety > Craig Dahl. I’d like to stick Dahl into a microwave and watch him pop. Just the thought of him starting Week 1 makes me want to devour an all-meat XL pizza on this Good Friday. One more sin isn’t going to hurt at this point.
Dennis
If Dahl is as inept as you portray him to be then shame on Harbaugh and Roman for not exploiting him twice when we played the Rams. He seemed to hold his own as the Ram defense was muy bueno.
I like this. If Mathieu stays away from the weed and the bad influences. A BIG IF, then he would be a great pick in the 3rd round.
The Niners are interested and he fits a big need and causes a chain reaction in better coverage
freeing Rogers to cover an outside receiver.

Latest report is that the Raiduhs are on the verge of giving up something in trade for Matt Flynn.
The Seahags found themselves a sucka.
And also Kolb might be shuffling off to Buffalo.
The last piece of the shuffling QBs is Carson Palmer when cut will be going to the Cards.
Seems like losers are changing one terrible QB for another and hope season ticket holders buy it.
Kolb and Flynn have yet to establish that they can lead a team and win.
From PFT
What exactly are they trading then if this statement stands?
“It’s unknown what the Raiders are giving up to get Flynn, but McKenzie declared last year that the team won’t be trading draft picks.
For now, it appears they won’t be using any draft picks on a quarterback.”
Stay tuned….
Kolb has proven he sucks in the system in AZ. Kolb played OK in a limited fashion in Philly. A more QB-friendly place than AZ. Playing behind that AZ line would make anyone look like shit. Gawd, do you remember Alex under Singletary? Will Buff help? Probably not, but these teams need to do something. Buff cut Ryan Fitzpatrick AND Patrick Fitzryan. What should they do? Start Pat White?
.
Yesterday, you said the Flynn trade talk was all agent-driven. That made no sense because Flynn’s in the middle of a 3 year/$20 mill deal. Now the Raiders are stupid for making a play on him? Their QB is hitting the road soon, and Terrelle Pryor might as well be Richard Pryor. Again, they have to do something. I think the Raiders are in a world of hurt, and have pissed away a ton of picks, but they have seen what happens in the NFL.
.
The Colts went from a 2 win team in 2011 to 11 wins and the playoffs in 2012. Same with the Vikings who won 3 games in 2011 and were a playoff team in 2012 winning 10 games.
.
Plus, the Redskins went from 5 wins in 2011 to 10 wins and a playoff berth in 2012. The pattern is there that a couple of teams surprise every season and you are deluded thinking this is not possible. Even for the Raiders.
Bullit, I think this is the first thing you and I have agreed upon in awhile — if Mathieu can stay even remotely clean. He’d be a steal in round three.
Chuck
????
I have not talked about Flynn recently until this afternoon when the news broke on PFT.
What exactly are you talking about?
The Cowgurls are guaranteed mediocrity signing Romo long term and giving him more guaranteed dollars than the Ravens gave Flacco.
Now the Packers will have to top that and give Rodgers even more
bucks.
This is getting as obscene as baseball where Arod is being paid $29 mil this year to sit because he’s hurt.
pfffft hey guys ,
what about kolb to KC to back up alex ?
CARSON PALMER might make some sense for buffalo ! imho they’re going to draft a QB !
BULLIT
WANT OBSCENE ? i hate to say it, but just wait until kaepernick is up for a new deal ! imho we should work on extending him asap !!!
SKEEBS nice post ! very funny !
JUST FOR FUN http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-talk/exclusive-william-shatner-fights-old-star-trek-enemy-215155239.html
lol
Carson Palmer would consider coming to the Niners as a backup if Raiduhs release him.
Didn’t see that one coming.
Whether Harbaugh wants him is another matter.

Kolb just signed with the Bills
for 2 years $13 mil total.
Kolb has officially shuffled off to Buffalo.
COULD WE really have a mutual interest with carson palmer ? if so how could we pay him ! i’m not sure what his deal is , but we have about 14 hundred dollars to offer him under the cap ! lol
nnamdi asomougha is more likely imo ! our available 4 mil in cap room put serious doubt into that one too !
happy easter outsiders !
Attention K-Mart shoppers, chocolate bunnies are on sale now!
Buuurrrppp! Too late. I got the chocolate farts this morning. My dog is getting a sugar high following me around sniffing the wind blasts.
Matt Flynn fetches a whopping 5th round pick in 2014 for the Seahawks.
49ers have just traded for Colt McCoy from the Browns.
Colt McCoy is now a Forty Niner. Per Jason La Canfora we’ve obtained the former UT star for a “late round pick.”
.
I always liked that kid. He’s a winner. Now I’ll cede my remaining two minutes to the senator from Reno who’ll remind me that he has a “weeny” arm. I still like ’em.
How much did I like Colt coming out of college? Even more than Curtain “Peter, Paul and Mary” Painter. That’s how much.
Curtain? Jesus H. Christ. I haven’t even finished my second beer of the day. “CURTIS” Draw the curtain down on yours truly.
Colt McCoy is smart and a decent backup so I like the pickup.
According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, the 49ers obtained McCoy and the Browns sixth-round pick in exchange for their fifth- and seventh-round picks.
The 6th round pick they obtained is 9 picks after the 5th rounder they gave up.
Niners now have 13 draft picks and a new backup QB.
After Kaep breaks everybody’s hands we can put in noodle armed McCoy to let their bruises heal.
I knew it wouldn’t take long for Berger to knock McCoy’s arm.
.
You know you has a really good arm? Clayton Kershaw. Now all of a sudden the SOB can hit too. 1-0 Road Kill as Cy goes deep. Unbelievable.
Berger
You know you’d get a remark from me on this. I beg to differ on your noodle arm comparison.
McCoy has an adequate arm.
I watched him for 4 years at Texas. Give him time and he’s always on target.
Montana didn’t have the strongest of arms either but the ball was always where it needed to be.
McCoy flicks the ball and it’s 30 yards downfield.
One more thing about McCoy, he sees the whole field and looks off coverage.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21Tda-n108s
During the weekend I read where the Seahags were thinking about trading for McCoy to backup Wilson if Flynn was traded.
Now the Seahags are looking at Tyler Thigpen as a backup.
The chess match between Harbaugh and Petey continues.
Montana had a better arm than McCoy. The music on your McCoy video sounds like what Skeebers must have sounded like to his dog this morning with his chocolate farts.
Rumor is we’re looking to sign one of these two guys:
http://www.wimp.com/guysrace/
Skeebs
They showed that on TV last week.
Guys in their 90’s running is damn impressive.
Those guys were risking it all.
Hell if you can stand up and walk
you’re ahead of the curve.
Berger
Damn straight Montana had a better arm than McCoy.
My point was Montana did it without the benefit of a strong arm.
Just wait until the OTAs and Training Camp. You might be surprised.
Were you hoping for Pat White
or Brady Quinn?
It was suprising that Josh Johnson wanted nothing to do with the Niners and signed for $740K.
Cards just released John Skelton
who was their starting QB at the beginning of 2012 season.
Nothing like continuity and stability both in coaching and the guy taking the snaps.
bullit- We got McCoy for next to nothing. I won’t complain. And he is only a back-up. Why not? I think he and Tolzien will have a nice competition. He might be smart but he won’t be scaring anybody with his 55 yard range. Brady Quinn has a worse arm than McCoy. Pat White was an interesting option for the scout team but hardly the back up we need. One thing I do know, if McCoy has to go in I sure hope the let him run a Spread offense so he doesn’t have to try to throw over the top.
I just ate the head off of a chocolate bunny rabbit! They sure use cheap chocolate on these things.
The rabbit must be solid chocolate so if it’s hollow it’s more for show than eating.
Berger
CK’s longest completion was 57 yards.
I’ll take that 55 yard arm of McCoy for the right decisions on the throws and he sees the whole field.
Colt’s contract is for $1.5mil and he becomes a FA after next season.
I had money on the old fart who lost that 100 yd dash. I told ’em if he wanted to win he needed to juice up before the race. 8 oz. of prune wasn’t what I had in mind.
The Seahags have interest in the other FA QB from Texas.
They are considering Vince Young
who I thought was a good fit here.
This is really one giant soap opera.
Vince Young? Shit, I’d take Pat White over him. I’d take Dan White over him.
Or Betty White for that matter.
Or Ron White! I saw him live and he had one of thew best lines I ever heard. “Once you see one naked woman, you just want to see them all!”
New post is up.
Thanks a lot for sharing this with all folks you actually understand what you’re talking about! Bookmarked. Kindly additionally seek advice from my website =). We may have a link change contract among us
