Move Along, Nothing To See Here

It’s been a quiet offseason for the 49ers so far. Nobody has been arrested for anything or made the news for bad behavior. The team is now both mediocre and boring.

This deadly dynamic could change in a couple of weeks, when Trent Baalke drafts a dozen or so new recruits, any of whom could be mentally deranged or otherwise fail to qualify as the type of person you would want living next door to you. It’s also possible Chip Kelly will experience his first “You’ve got to be kidding me with this junk!” thought bubble, a bubble which could lead to yet another HC vs FO war in the near future.

Now that dysfunction is the operative reality when describing the 49ers upper management, it’s foolish to think anything good will happen anytime soon. After all, five years ago something good actually did happen, but the FO made sure it didn’t take root.

It takes leadership and talent to be a winner in the NFL, and the Niners have neither. All they have is money and that’s all they’re really interested in. The owner is a boob. There’s no way to ever overcome that deficiency except by sheer luck.

Baalke does make the draft itself interesting. I’ll give him that. Trader Trent. Up, down, all around the board. The man knows his draft value chart, if not his draft value talent.

Last year, we had six TEs and started the season trying to run a TE oriented offense. This year we have a head coach who prefers an offense with three or four WRs. We also had a FB who tended to correlate with victories when he was on the field a lot. This year’s coach doesn’t use a FB. We’ll also have a new playbook this year, which tends to rule out Colin Kaepernick as a viable QB option since he barely learned the old playbook after being here five years.

So, once again, the Niners are back to the three year cycle of “out with the old and in with the new.” A guaranteed formula for endless mediocrity.

TB should have a lot of answering to do. That better start the first day after the draft.

All that money for FA and all we got was a rock (apologies to Zane Beadles, maybe). Nothing has changed in an impactful way.

Any niner blogs folding yet. Silverspoon is hurting mommies investment.

  2. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Even if we stink, we should win more games. Non-division games are NFC South, AFC East, Dallas, and Chicago. Only thing easier would be the AFC South.

We badly need to acquire talent this year. Not upgrading the roster so far means Mo. If a trade, a long term deal must be done.

Realistically, the first 3 rounds in a good draft should be starters sometime this year. FO backed us into a corner. Can Tank, Marcus Martin, and Brandon Thomas finally play up to their pick status.

  3. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

TMZ: “Saturday night, Johnny Manziel was riding in a vehicle that hit a light pole. He and the driver, Ryan Silverstein (a/k/a OVO Ryan, whatever that means) fled the scene on foot.

And, of course, they were picked up by suspended Browns receiver Josh Gordon.”

Ha ha ha ha. You can’t make this shit up.

  4. Phil fanNo Gravatar says:

No you can’t make this crap up, it’ weirder than fiction. (Did Josh Gordon really pick them up?) Life is just a silly game for a talented few until the sands run out and the opportunities flee. Bad apples are everywhere.

Staley says “Rebuilding is a waste for older guys like me”. Problem is Balkey does not show interest in winning NOW. Never has regardless of what he says. ACL Team, bargain basement FAs, failure to develop talent or draft talent…none of this is about WINNING NOW. He doesn’t want to win now. Tough shit Joe, you are being wasted.

Okay looking for 73 tonight against the Grizz at Oracle…

  5. Phil fanNo Gravatar says:

73 looks to be in the bag for the Dubs. Congratulations guys!

And Yes, Josh Gordon DID pick up Elway’s boy Manziel after the hit and run. What a joke

Jed York’s leadership is anything butt. Everything butt?

Some believe that last year Kaep got beat-out by Gabbert, or that Kaep can’t read defenses, or Skeeber’s latest offering that Kaep couldn’t understand the new playbook because he’s too stupid.

The only significant thing Kaep did last year was to go on his twitter account to congratulate coach Harbaugh on a great season in Michigan. Why? Is Kaep so stupid, like Skeebers and others want you to believe, that Kaep would thank his former coach while being on the payroll of the owner who lied and fired Harbaugh – believing there would be no repercussions from the 49er front office? Was there an underlying, read between-the-lines, message in Kaep’s thank you to Harbaugh? One that said, “F You” to York?

Sure there was. The morons (and I use the term generously) on this blog honestly believe that Kaep got beat-out by Gabbert and that Kaep can’t read defenses or go through his progressions (all the way to the Super Bowl… but hey, Dilfer won the Super Bowl, right morons? But I digress). They don’t see any correlation between Kaep’s mentor being unceremoniously shown the door without respect or gratitude for services rendered, and then Kaep subsequently quitting on his team. They don’t get that motivation is 9/10th of the law, and when you fire someone’s biggest advocate, it’s hard for them to embrace your new agenda. Skeebers isn’t stupid, but he’s so blinded by his Alex Smith hard-on that he can only kozie up to anything ripping on Kaep. Kaep objectivity isn’t Skeeber’s bag, baby.

But what’s on the 49er horizon is about to get fun. Any York incompetence is a good time. Everyone with half a brain knows the 49ers and Chip Kelly are going to try and draft a qb that Kelly can start day one. Then, once the 49ers have drafted their qb, they’ll trade Kaep to the Broncos and there Kaep will flourish provided he doesn’t try to have sex with his teammates’ girlfriends. And for that past transgression, Kaep will have to prove to his new Bronco teammates that was an impetuous act of a young man with lustful intentions gone awry, never to go awry in Denver…

But here’s the problem. I don’t really know the NFL much anymore because it’s a bad product getting badder. However, if there aren’t a lot of qbs in this year’s draft, there’s a chance smart GMs will move ahead of the 49ers to draft a covetted 49er qb. And if that happens, Jim Harbaugh will have the last laugh, because I don’t know if you morons realize it, but Colin Kaepernick isn’t playing very hard for Jed York after York sacked Harbaugh… or Wallace sacked York, I forget.

So if other NFL teams needing a qb anticipate the 49ers’ coveted qb, and the brain trust of KelBaalke (that make Zika virus baby noodles look ginormous) lose out on their coveted draft qb, the 49ers will be forced to turn back to Kaepernick after a shat storm of bad will, bad vibes, bad front office decisions and more. And Kaep’s not going to bail this team of jack wagons out. And with Kaep’s millions guaranteed, it’ll prove yet another 49er monetary blunder. After starting two games for Kelly, Kaep will pull up with a bad hamstring or, like last year, fake a shoulder injury that needs significant rehab time. Then Kelly will turn to Gabbert or some second choice rookie qb and Kelly’s year-one will be sabotaged by Harbaugh’s trusted agent, Colin Kaepernick.

Why do you morons think recently that Harbaugh came out and said publically “If anyone wants an endorsement for Colin Kaepernick, they’ll get nothing be a glowing review from me?” That was because, you complete idiots, Kaep let Harbaugh know he was talking with the Broncos. Harbaugh is the master of the game outside the lines. He’s using Kaep to continue to destroy the 49ers while also wanting what’s best for his protege. What’s funny is that the Alex Smith hard-on crowd can’t even see the real fun in Niner land – a topic they blog about everyday.

If the 49ers were smart, and that’s a ridiculous “if,” they would trade Kaep now and simply go into the draft declaring Gabbert their qb and if they can upgrade the position so be it. But instead, this merry band of morons honestly believes that keeping a club malcontent in Kaep on the roster hides their motivation for a new qb. What complete idiots. Who in all of the Northern Hemisphere thinks Kaep wants to play in SF next year, or that the 49er will get anything out of Kaep? It’s such a clown show I honestly don’t know how ticket vendors can keep a straight face when fans pay hundreds to go to games in Santa Clara.

I honestly hope Kaep stays in SF one more year and the does the ghost of Jim Harbaugh’s dirty work from beyond the grave…. But the morons say Kaep isn’t any good. Anyone wanna watch old 49er games in 2012 or 2013 when Kaep was under Harbaugh? Kaep was dam good… duh.

Tennessee got a king’s ransom and should make the AFC South a powerhouse in a few years. JAX ascends this year. TENN has 4 high picks this year that should be starters week one. Then 3 high picks next year for starters.

  11. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

    Jeez, this year rams +tenn3 = 7. Next year rams2 + tenn3 = 5. So that is 12 rookie starters.

Look if Kap defies human nature, gravity and the inexorable laws of science to produce a good year here I’ll be the first to celebrate. Otherwise I’m not expecting much.

From read of articles, it must be discerned to figure out an agenda if any. Seems writer was trying to find any negatives and play it up. Written to lower his trade value.

  30. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Past patsy teams have passed us by.

Rams have finished redoing their roster with large, competent rookie classes. Roster 2.0 starts with release of Long and Laurunaitas.

JAX built their core and this year finishes the makeover. TENN now takes over from them and what a start.

Must win against Dallas, NO, and Chicago. Ouch. Zero could be ours.

  31. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Phil, you convinced me. With the schedule difficulty we need to take advantage and tank one more season. A top five pick may be possible 2017.

Number 1 receivers in 2017. Maybe pass TE’s too. If Gabbert not it, then franchise QB.

  32. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Next year’s QB crop sucks. Reason why Raaftms went all in for this draft. Regardless niners need to draft a Qb. Might be Kevin Hogan in 3rd round if Goff is gone.

  33. Phil fanNo Gravatar says:

Yes I think the writer on the Mo deal was biased, actually love to see it happen. But then I want “wins Now” not the Balkey plan of…later, maybe. No wonder Jimi flipped him the bird.

    Coneheads prognostication on each game:

Brutal schedule. NFL is doing us NO favors but not hard to see why…

  34. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

It’s pretty much the same schedule as everyone else in the NFC West – with one big difference: they get to play us and we have to play them.

  35. Phil fanNo Gravatar says:

It’s a pity. Here we have the toughest schedule (against 55% winners last year), the usual travel hell and scheduling madness from NFL…THEN we gotta play SEA, LA, CARDS?

    Life ain’t fair

  36. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Draft a little over a week away.

This is where GM’s make their money. Draft boards are key. Players drop just due to circumstance. Like the Vikings picking up Sharif Floyd who was projected as a top ten pick.

The 2nd can be a mid round 1st with a player and/or draft picks.

AD or Kap involved in draft day trades?

  37. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

It is safer for GM’s to swap picks with a player trade during a draft. Lots of cap space can be used in the frenzy of the draft to our advantage.

An expensive mid 20’s player may have to be traded when certain trades obsolete them.

  38. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

    A QB factory. GB? DEN?

Lots of teams waste highly drafted QB’s. QB factories can rehab them for a pittance for trade or play. DEN remodels who.

  39. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Can we plan on the #1 pick next year. TB drafting prowess makes that a good bet. 2011 draft yielded little in retrospect. 2007 draft with Willis and Staley.

  40. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Maybe? Peyton Manning goes back to Tennessee as VP of Player Personnel for TENN Titans. They of the mega-pick gift bonanza from the fleeced Rams.

  41. Phil fanNo Gravatar says:

Speculation Niners “may” jump on the Browns #2 pick with some of our own. Not Balkeys MO especially with all the needs we have on OL, DL. BUT what about the Kap to CLE idea? They were willing to give up a 3rd Rounder but the salary was the issue. We know Kap won’t take a pay cut. What about Browns trade some of their new picks for Kap (Balkey loves them picks) while Niners cover some of his guaranteed salary? Browns get a veteran QB, sweeten deal with another Pick, Niners get rid of Kap. Just a thought…

In true Niner fashion photos of Kaepernick have been recently removed from Team Photos on web page. Subtle.

  42. bullitNo Gravatar says:

OLB/DE is a position of need. Brooks is not worth his contract and has been in decline. Lemonier has never lived up to expectations and is on verge of being a bust. Draft some competition that can move Brooks and Lemonier off the team.

  43. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

Trading up really makes no sense for most bad teams. You’re bad because you suck at multiple things and need help in multiple areas. If anything, a bad team should consider trading down for help in quantity. We should stay at 7 and take the best player we can get. Problem is, Baalke knows it’s his ass if we have another terrible year, and may feel he has nothing to lose by screwing the team down the line to make a splash now.

  44. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Do we want 2017 #1 pick, then just draft.

Otherwise a draft day trade with Mo Wilkerson is it. Buckner will be gone, either to SD or BALT. The DT class is outstanding, not edge rushers. So a Noah Spence and Ogbah will be there.

The #20 or #37 can be moved up with player or pick to grab a top 10 guy that fell due to chance. Will Ronnie Stanley or Conklin fall into the teens.

There is no sizzle on this team. Mo and Stanley/Conklin in the 1st will keep the fan exodus to a low boil. Solidifying the trenches with high calibre talent is job one.

If AD proves that he can be his healthy self again like 2012/2013 then Staley could be traded to a contender with LT injuries before the OCT trade deadline.

Forget Myles Jack, Jalen Ramsey,… Mo/Williams/Armstead and Mo/Armstead in the nickel make all the LB’s twenty percent better than last year.

  45. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Bryan Hoyer is out there. If DEN grabs him, then where does Kap go. FO must have inside info about Kap’s tradeability if DEN takes Hoyer.

Maybe CLE takes the picks for a trade out of #2 and want Kap and RG III this season?

  46. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

TB needs to pull the trigger and stop being coy.

Bears are a fit for Wilkerson, have a lot of cap room left, and have #11 so can be competitive with our offer.

If CLE trades out of #2 for more picks they are directly competing with us for LT and RT. Joe Thomas could be traded just like Staley in Oct.

  47. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Another plus for Wilkerson. The new DC from CLE tried to institute the more sophisticated gap scheme’s that NYJ and BALT use.

MO can help Armstead and Dial with that scheme. Last year the CLE linemen/linebackers were not able to execute it.

Need high quality lineman to win their match ups so LB’s can make the best choice for gap coverage.

  48. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

If there is a QB run and Hogan and Hackenburg are gone before our 2nd, can you guys live with Nick Foles as backup to Gabbert?

Kap has to be gone. Cannot risk any further injuries with him.

  49. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

    “Eagles acquire 2 overall and a 4th round pick in 2017 from CLeV. Browns receive 8th overall pick, a 3rd (#77 overall), a 4th (#100 overall), a 1st round pick in 2017 and a 2nd round pick in 2018.”

  50. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Holy phuck. CLE traded out to PHI for a boatload of picks.

Can we ship out Kap now. CLE can ride with Kap/RG III and the next tier of QB’s left to develop with their 2nd.

Eagles and Rams now have their franchise QB’s.

  51. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

CLE will grab Stanley or Conklin at #8. Their RT Schwartz left in FA and Joe Thomas LT has a few years left.

  52. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

CLE and TENN have a bright future. Congrats to their FO. Goff and Wentz are nfl ready now. There will be a DT run in the 1st. If a QB run happens we need to trade up #37 for OLB or OT, whatever is not taken with our 1st.

Wonder if Jack and Ramsey still there in the teens.

  53. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Also remember Tank competing at nickel DE. Release Brooks for cap reasons. Lemonier substitutes for Brooks. Harold is an edge rusher. Rush like a Skuta.

Am OK if we stand pat at OLB this year and see what these guys bring.

If we do not grab an OT with the first two picks then they must have confidence that AD will be his earlier healthy self.

  54. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

CLE lost a lot of players in FA so do not be surprised if they trade down further. They lost ILB’s Karlos Dansby and Craig Robertson, FS Tashaun Gibson, and SS Donte Whitner. On O they lost RT Mitchell Schwartz and WR Travis Benjamin and possibly WR Josh Gordon gets more suspension.

Assume PHI keeps Bradford for at least one year before Goff takes over.

  55. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Josh Norman’s a FA now. If Baalke wants to make a splash, this is a good one to make.

  56. Phil fanNo Gravatar says:

There you go Tom = Browns are loaded with picks after the Philly trade so let’s move Kap. But yeah they already have RG3 so two QB heavy contracts may be out there. Does anybody except the Browns think RG3 can still play in NFL?

Yeah maybe we go DL/Rusher at 7 and get a QB later rounds. No point moving up if there ever was

  57. Phil fanNo Gravatar says:

    Balkey meets the press =

Long interview. Mr Balkey has not changed

  58. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

Skeebs I’d agree, regarding a Josh Norman signing, at the right price.

The one guy in this Draft I’d have thought was worth a Trade Up for, Jalen Ramsey, could easily be swapped out for another need, if Norman were brought aboard before RD1 kicks off next week.

Tunsil slides another slot with the Philly move today,(perhaps).
Let’s hope SD goes Ramsey over Tunsil if they hold their 3rd slot.

  59. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Norman wants Revis money around $15mil a year.
I just don’t see Norman giving the Niners a discount.
If Niners had a strong defense then maybe. They have too many holes.

  60. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

He isn’t worth Revis money Bullit.
He would be an upgrade over TBrock, whose cost you could trade-off for Norman.
The fact that Rams/Eagles sold out for what we assume to be Goff/Wentz, simply pushes other options closer to our slot.

This Draft is loaded on Defensive options.
I wouldn’t have made the moves on either QB but, when a team is sold on their guy, they take that plunge.
In the back of mind I’m reminded of the curious move Elway made by bringing in Sanchize.
Somehow I think he’s dangling a former Chip QB in the potential Kaep deal.
    Find out next week….

  61. bullitNo Gravatar says:

This trade is not being embraced by Ego fans who think they gave up too much.
You have to remember that Egos gave up some more assets to move up to the 8th spot.
They are already paying Bradford and Chase Daniel $28 mil a year
combined. Makes you wonder why they are paying Bradford top dollar if they have no faith in his long term future with the team. Talk about lame ducks.

  62. robNo Gravatar says:

We’re considered the frontrunner to land Norman per USA Today and ESPN !!!

  63. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Adam Schefter ESPN still think Niners will part ways with Kap.
Considering Baalke has not talked with Kap since he’s reported is a good indicator.

  64. Phil fanNo Gravatar says:

Is Josh Norman a smokescreen to cover Niner interest in Jalen Ramsey?

    Sakamoto thinks so =

Trade with Chargers or Cowboys, cost us a 3rd he sez

  65. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Even if the Niners added Wilkerson and Norman for the $30 mil a year they’re asking for they aren’t a playoff team. They are a good 2 years away and by then Norman and Wilkerson will be on the downside of their careers. You only add a Norman or a Wilkerson if you are a contender. Clearly the Niners are not yet in this category but drafting wisely might get them there.

Niners are in rebuild and it’s stupid to think they are in reload mode.

  66. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Mo is only 26. We need stars, not potential. This coaching staff completely flubbed on Tank. If Buckner is not there at #7, the only sure 3-4 DE read and react type is Wilkerson.

Combining speed, power, and technique at a high level is hard and we should be tired of taking chances. Mo is a sure thing and is rotating with an ascending Arik Armstead and Quinton Dial.

#20 can then go OLB or OT. #20 could be bundled with a player to move up even higher. Are we satisfied with the OLB/nickel DE’s on the roster. If so then #20 can get us a starting OT. Staley has to be dropping off, even now.

  67. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

No trust in coaching staff to develop a draft class properly. Flubbed on 2nd RD Tank and Vance. Flubbed on 3rd RD Marcus Martin and Brandon Thomas.

The new Dline and Oline coaches are solid. Maybe then can finally get the potential out of the three linemen. Vance may need better O scheme and QB?

  68. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

Is there no level of soap opera stupidity that this team cannot sink to?

Now Nick Moody, scheduled to testify against Aldon, is missing.

    This team needs an enema.

  69. winderNo Gravatar says:

Yeah, and there is also a couple of douche bags in the FO that need to be emptied. This draft will suck, you can bank on it.

Agree we need to avoid high priced FAs and concentrate on good drafting plus developing younger players. We are far from playoff team so working on basics per above is best route. Now, can we accomplish anything?- that is the question. But we do not know what “this coaching staff” is capable of in terms of player development now do we? Will it be the ‘Tomsula Zero’ or the Hendrix ‘Okay’? Stay tuned…

Next week is the first voluntary mini camp.
Will we get some clues as to what’s going on?

Josh Norman signs for $75 mil with Redskins.
At 29 that’s probably his last big contract.
It came down to Redskins and Aints so Niners were #3 at best.

  73. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

So niners were in play for Norman until the numbers got ridiculous. CB’s are non-core on this roster. But this effort shows the niners are willing to spend.

If we just draft, no matter how good the picks are they cannot develop fast enough to overcome the schedule difficulty. Expect a top 5 pick in 2017. Also no trade of 2017 picks this year.

Expect us to draft day trade for Mo Wilkerson. SD or BALT will take Buckner, even CHI could jump ahead of us and grab him. We have no stars on this roster and should not trade up for Buckner either.

#7 for #20 staight up. It may not even matter who is there for NYJ. They need to unload MO and only we and CHI are 3-4 and have the dollars.

I hope Jed realizes this injection of talent is needed now. No one outbids us either. A lot of teams have sucked it in, accepted FA reality, and overspent.

It is our turn. Justin 2.0 happens with the #7 pick.

Article on Baalke, that Trent is on the clock with his slew of poor draft picks.
Baalke messes up trying to defend his Brandon Thomas pick and now thinks drafted players need 3 years to develop.

Baalke doesn’t have 3 years more so in this draft class 3 of his draft picks need to make an immediate impact. And 9 of the 12 need to show they belong on a NFL roster.

When Baalke drafted Brandon Thomas he basically chose Joe Looney 2.0, a big swing and a miss.

Baalky is full of it and a terrible GM. All the continuing drama surrounding the team should be traced back to Baalky. The GM is supposed to be the rudder and do his best to keep the team on track. His draft pick have been terrible and why should that change now.
