Halfway to Maybe

A week and a half into training camp and the bodies are falling left and right. Probably a normal occurrence, but each year it seems worse than the previous year. Short term memory loss.

Bodies were no doubt falling at the BioReference lab in New Jersey, too. These fellows managed to screw up 77 Covid tests. I managed to contain my outrage by noting that none of their mistakes happened to the 49ers. Plus it was a bit fun imagining all the medical science heads being lopped off and bowled down the company aisles by their corporate blame throwers.

Arik Armstead has decided to use his “platform” at the weekly press meeting to speak about social justice issues. Terrific. Does he really think he has anything to add to the dialogue? Each and every week? I doubt it.

Roger Goodell gave the obligatory “we should have listened to Kap” speech. Then headed for the toilet to throw up. Tough job being the commissioner, having to grovel regularly to the owners and players and media.

Another two plus weeks until the season kicks off. And if we can ooze through all the posturing, bloviating, virtue signaling, kneeling, and another overdone rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner we’ll finally have some games to watch! Maybe.

Could Jalen Hurd be the present’s version of Marcus Lattimore
and never see the field? Hurd is sustaining a different injury each time and maybe a more exact comparison would be Todd “Crystal” Shell. Lattimore never overcame his devastating knee injury which made him a 4th rounder.

Hurds absence will benefit Jennings. I doubt the FO will have much faith in Hurd actually doing anything but they stuck with the Jet and it looks like he will at least play this year. I try and keep up with injuries around the league but for over all #’s the Niners seem to have more than others. Anyway, injuries are part of the game. I am more worried about Kinlaw that anyone else since his rushing skills haven’t shown much they have moved him inside to be a run stopper. That is ok if he can do it at this level. But that was not what was advertised.

  3. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Per PFT the Niners are auditioning more receivers today

The group includes former Bears first-rounder Kevin White, along with Johnny Holton, River Cracraft, and Justin Hardy

  4. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Shanahan said no today to the possibility of Earl Thomas playing for the Niners.

Bullit, on Hurd, maybe. We can hope Hurd is Jesse Sapolu, who overcame a major injury jinx his first few years to become a starter for years.

My thing with Thomas is, Ward already restructured and wants to be here. Not sure the upside is worth the message it sends to anyone else willing to restructure to help the team or stay here.

    WR Kevin White signed
    NJ representative at WR
Hope he puts the work in
Tons of potential that hasn’t materialized.

All I can say is the US is just a mess.
From what I know shooting an unarmed person in the back is a cowardly act. A cop emptying his gun into someone’s back who’s not threatening you is stupidity times a million. There is no law and certainly no order to this heinous act.

Nobody should have this happen to them because of what they look like especially law enforcement who are sworn to protect and defend EVERYONE.

I love sports but these players of pro sports are doing the right thing using their platform to shine a spotlight on what is a dumpster fire of a problem. Hope football isn’t delayed but if that what it takes to help fix things, then I’m all in.

NN comment said White weakness is route running and fundamental approach to the game. Just a combine stud that could not stay healthy.

If KS can do the magic great. Price is right.

NYG has 2nd rd pick Xavier McKinney out for months with broken foot.

    Game in Sept got easier

Having their QB on a rookie contract allows ARI to do this.

But hey, if Jamal Adams is good enough for SEA why not.

From the internet, big 10 may yet have a season and nfl reliable young blood.

This is absolutely beautiful. Either Gestapo Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan who has bragged about shutting down Big 10 football and the rest of the Democrats who want everything shut down have to cave in and reverse themselves…..in which case Trump can rightfully claim the credit for getting the Big 10’s season back on.

They can stubbornly stick to the shutdown of the Big 10 for the Fall which is going to royally piss off a ton of people in key swing states like Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, etc.

He has the idiots over a barrel. Its so beautiful. LOL!

He is a MASTER at spotting his enemy’s weakness and then hammering them with it relentlessly

Cost to the NBA, what will be the cost to NFL?

“But the players themselves don’t hold all the cards. Americans have been falling progressively out of love with the NBA, for instance, and the pandemic has only exacerbated an already difficult situation. TV ratings, mediocre after the season restarted, are down collectively by 40 percent on the TNT network, and 20 percent on ESPN, since their peak nearly a decade ago. Even more troubling is that the league’s network TV premium broadcasts ratings on ABC are off by 45 percent, what a former public relations executive for the NBA describes as a “cratering” of viewership.”

“Making up ground that the league has lost will prove even harder with the pandemic. The lockdown will cost the NBA at least $1 billion in revenue, and an MLB study earlier this year projected a potential revenue decline of $4 billion from the shortened season. And the poor TV ratings suggest that many sports viewers have missed watching NBA games less than the league might have anticipated.”

  13. bullitNo Gravatar says:

I didn’t know you were into NBA tv ratings in August.

Into distractions? Remember this pandemic is a hoax. Please tell this to the 180,000 plus people that have died and counting. New prediction is over 300K by December.

The problem is the pandemic not NBA or NFL Tv ratings. Who cares in a year where nothing is normal?

You can tell yourself how great your life is now.

For me another weekend ataying at home because there are no concerts, no movie theaters, no shopping malls and no restaurants open.
I don’t want to catch the virus because I don’t like ventilators or ICUs. That is the risk you take now going out in public.

We are where we are because the lack of action in Feb, Mar and April.
It’s as simple as that. The leader of the free world told America not to worry about it, he had it in control.

If you are thinking about taking a vacation Hawaii they still have their 14 day mandatory quarantine.

Americans are not welcome in Canada and Europe,

In fact these are the only countries you can trtavel freely to
    Dominican Republic
    North Macedonia

It is a sad day when you can’t visit Canada as an American.

Two weeks until kickoff (fingers crossed).
Reports are Jordfan Reed is looking very good as the second TE.
He is more of a Joker TE adept at receiving than a blocking TE.

Meanwhile Lynch/Shanahan are bring players in for workouts, signing them and then cutting them a couple of days later. It’s a revolving door.

In the weirdest of years it’s hard to assess the team just based on practices. I would say I miss preseason games just because we will not see the product on the field until the first game. It will be most different to have the game in an empty stadium.

Not sure when cutdown day is but it’s coming.

Jags once had one of the elite defenses in the NFL.

    Per Schefter

:That defense was stacked with six Pro Bowlers — defensive linemen Malik Jackson and Calais Campbell, linebacker Telvin Smith, cornerbacks Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye, and edge rusher Yannick Ngakoue.

As of Sunday morning, all six of those Pro Bowlers are gone. Ngakoue, who was the last man standing and had expressed his desire to be off the Jaguars roster for months, was traded on Sunday morning to the Vikings.

Jaguars agreed to trade franchise DE Yannick Ngakoue to Minnesota for a second- and conditional fifth-round pick that could go as high a third-round pick, league sources tell ESPN.:

Baalke is now head of Pro Personnel for the Jags.

  17. winderNo Gravatar says:

“Baalke is now head of Pro Personnel for the Jags.” That actually made me laugh.Sooooo glad he’s gone. I give him one year in Jacksonville.

  18. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Speaking of Baalke: “Jaguars released RB Leonard Fournette.”

  19. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Looks like the Jags are tanking it in order to take QB Trevor Lawrence #1

  20. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

All Lawrence needs to do is blow out his ACL and it’s a lock.

  21. winderNo Gravatar says:

Grump, That is a true statement about the ACL, he just can’t help himself. Fournette hasn’t really showed much of anything since his rookie year but with Baalky in the mix it really doesn’t matter. The Jags will have a total rebuild coming in their future, just like we had to.

  22. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Great: “The 49ers have placed LB Fred Warner on the Reserve/Covid-19 List.”
