Chiefs 19, 49ers 16

NFL Football returned to our domiciles last week and was eagerly devoured by hungry fans everywhere.

Normally, watching second and third stringers scrimmage against each other is not must see TV, but 49er fans were particularly intrigued with seeing number one draft choice Trey Lance and they got almost an entire half’s worth of him. He had one eye-opener heave for an 80 yard TD to Trent Sherfield, but otherwise looked like a second string QB.

Of course, with scrubs on the O-line and scrubs for wide receivers, it’s pretty hard to read much into his performance. The DBs who were drafted looked reasonably decent, as did RB Trey Sermon. OG Aaron Banks had some sort of shoulder problem and will be but a few weeks, probably leaving Daniel Brunskill as the RG for the season opener. Unless Colton McKivitz wins the job.

The team will spend the coming week scrimmaging against the Chargers before playing against them this coming weekend. Hopefully, we’ll see the starters get a little more face time in this second preseason game.

I like Richie James but his spot on special teams and WR will go to ex_Ram Nsimba Webster who was brought in as a “gunner” on punt teams and showed explosiveness in his kickoff returns and as a WR with a jet sweep.
Also another 5th round steal appears to be S Taianoa Hufanga who looked very good in his open field tacking both on ST and as a Safety on defense.

The Niners didn’t seem to play their first team defense fromm the start. Don’t think Bosa, Armstead, Ford , Kinlaw, Warner, Greenlaw,
Verret, Mosely or Ward even dressed for this game.

I was happy the way Hufanga played, we have needed a spark like that on ST and defense. He is a keeper and another 5th rd gem. What I read about Banks doesn’t sound to good but we shall see.

Schedule for upcoming roster cuts. Two weeeks to get to final 53

The first roster deadline will have teams trimming their rosters from 90 to 85 (Aug. 17). Following the second preseason game, teams will need to trim their roster from 85 to 80 by the following Tuesday (Aug. 24). The final round of cuts will be a big one, as teams will need to trim their rosters from 80 to 53 players the Tuesday after the final preseason game (Aug. 31).

Wow the fanboys on radio talk shows are touting that Lance should be made the starting QB immediately and Jimmy G traded.

Lance will be ready to take over as starter when he can be relied on to sustain a few long drives of 12 plus plays. Lance needs to convert third downs into first downs on a consistent basis. Keep the three Then he can start at QB. He still has much to learn and Shanahan’s offense is not to become a reincarnation of the mad bomber. He wants a balanced offense with an occasional splash play.

Keeping the ball and winning time of possession helps the defense and is a basic principle of Shanahan’s offense.

Niners add LB Mychal Hendricks and release LB James Burgess Jr.
LB Donald Payne, DL Eddie Vanderdoes. They have to cut 3 more players by 1pm tomorrow.

Saw reports not long ago that the best selling jersey after the Draft belonged to Tim Tebow.
    Go figure….

    So long, bustola:

“The 49ers are waiving QB Josh Rosen.”

  8. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

    This guy:

“As 49ers warmup for practice today with Chargers, WR Jalen Hurd is
    rehabbing. He’s not in uniform.”

  9. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Hurd is not sustaining his injuries in games. It’s happening in practice.
You cannot count on him and you have nothing to show for him in 3 years.

  10. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Hey, maybe Saleh took the injury curse with him:

“Tests on Jets’ DE Carl Lawson revealed he suffered a season-ending torn Achilles, and Jets’ S Zane Lewis also tore his patella tendon and suffered a sprained MCL during today’s practice and will miss the 2021 season.”

  11. winderNo Gravatar says:

I am afraid the Jets are gonna be terrible. They are dropping like flies. I really had hoped Saleh could turn the team around but injuries will kill any team.

Today’s roster moves cutting roster to 80

Released: DL Shalique Calhoun, CB B.W. Webb
Waived: WR River Cracraft, OL Corbin Kaufusi
    Injured reserve: Mychal Kendricks (toe)

  13. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

NYJ lose Vinny Curry for the year.
I can see an opportunity to get a Trade done with Saleh for a familiar D-Lineman perhaps?
We’re going to have some tough decisions to make.
    Dee?

  14. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

Saleh has lost Lawson & Curry now.
This is where I expected an inside track to occur simply for the familiarity with personnel.
I expected Ebukam to replace Dee all along.
See what comes before cutdown day.

    Some good news:

“Trent Williams is good to go. So is Nick Bosa. Both stars return to 49ers team reps today.”

  16. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Tartt’s back too, in a bit of a surprise.

  17. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

“Nick Bosa returned to team drills on Wednesday. On the second snap – he sacked the quarterback.”

  18. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Dee Ford also looks good to go and is running drills in practice. Fingers crossed Niners are going to hsve a devastating pass rush.
The Dline might once again m ake the defense something special.

  19. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Sunday’s kickoff set for 1pm with temperatures around 100 at Levis.
Heat again might be a major factor for the fans in the stands

Yesterday South Lake Tahoe had the most hazardous air on the planet.
Depending which way the wind blows it could head for the Bay Area.

  20. bullitNo Gravatar says:

This game used to be a staple of the preseason schedule.
It was taken off the schedule for public safety reasons because of the fighting in the stands and outside in the parking lot.

We’ll have to see if things have calmed down becaus ethey are the Vega$ Raiduhs now.

  21. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Kawakami: “Minshew-to-Eagles after-effects: Nick Mullens released by Eagles, CJ Beathard promoted to QB2 in Jax.”

  22. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

“The 49ers signed WR River Cracraft to a one-year deal. In order to make room on the roster, the team waived/injured WR Richie James.”

  23. winderNo Gravatar says:

You could see that one coming.

Pregame show says Jalen Hurd and Elijah Mitchell are playing for the first time today and it will have a bearing on if they make the team.
