NFL Football returned to our domiciles last week and was eagerly devoured by hungry fans everywhere.
Normally, watching second and third stringers scrimmage against each other is not must see TV, but 49er fans were particularly intrigued with seeing number one draft choice Trey Lance and they got almost an entire half’s worth of him. He had one eye-opener heave for an 80 yard TD to Trent Sherfield, but otherwise looked like a second string QB.
Of course, with scrubs on the O-line and scrubs for wide receivers, it’s pretty hard to read much into his performance. The DBs who were drafted looked reasonably decent, as did RB Trey Sermon. OG Aaron Banks had some sort of shoulder problem and will be but a few weeks, probably leaving Daniel Brunskill as the RG for the season opener. Unless Colton McKivitz wins the job.
The team will spend the coming week scrimmaging against the Chargers before playing against them this coming weekend. Hopefully, we’ll see the starters get a little more face time in this second preseason game.
