The Bay Area is having a pretty good run right now. The Giants are World Champs, the 49ers came up five yards short of the title, the Warriors are amazing everyone with their spirited playoff run, the Sharks just might be for real this year, and even the Athletics are contenders. If this four sport excellence were occurring in New York, you know we’d be reading and hearing about it non stop.

Of course, there is one pro franchise in the area that you wouldn’t bring up at the dinner table. Al Davis has come and gone, but the Raiders still suck. Al’s right hand lady, Amy Trask, finally got off that train wreck over the weekend, leaving Al’s son Mark Davis in full control. Mark doesn’t have much of a Raider look to him, IMO. More like a wimpy goofball you’d find bent over a log squealing in Deliverance woods. My advice to Mark would be to get a new hair cut. As it is, he’s in the running with Donald Trump for worst hair-do in America.

It occurred to me the other day that maybe Raider fans don’t yet know Al’s dead. It’s not like these cretins read newspapers or internet blogs. They have to bring along a spelling tutor just to buy the right t-shirt.

The 49er rookies finished their minicamp Sunday, not that anyone paid much attention. Later this week, they’ll be introduced to the veterans on the team at the first OTA. We’ll see how they hold up against NFL players, rather than a gaggle of other rookies.

Everybody seems fascinated with how British discus throwing star Lawrence Okoye will perform as he gives football a jolly good try. The 49er O-line will provide some clues this next weekend. Is he going to throw people around like shot putter Michael Carter did, or just be another Michael Jordan baseball non-story.

As you can see, there’s not much happening these days. To my knowledge, no additional team stepped up over the weekend to say they don’t want Tim Tebow, although Roger Goodell gushed about what a fine fellow Tim is. It must be kind of weird being a guy people have to publicly insist they don’t want. I’ve had some unpopular moments in my life, but nothing remotely as grand a thumbs down as Tim is getting. Strange days.

Looks like today is a good day to say nothing. So here goes for me, “nothing.”

  2. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

    You killed the thread.

  3. BergerNo Gravatar says:

    Was it something I said?

  4. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

It was what you didn’t say.

  5. BergerNo Gravatar says:

    I say say nothing.

  6. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Oops, I was typing too fast while getting ready for work. I meant to say, I did say nothing.

The first OTA is a week from Wed
    on 5/22.
Unless they changed things here is the schedule
OTAs May 22 to 24, May 29 to 31 and June 4 to June 7. They will wrap things up with a mandatory minicamp June 12 to 14.
OTAs are non contact practices. Minicamp allows some contact but no pads.

  8. bullitNo Gravatar says:

A lot of optimism from the Seahags.
Marshawn Lynch has a court date for his DUI in Oakland last year.
Lynch’s lawyer is contending although his result was a positive
there is a margin of error.
If convicted this will be his 3rd
driving offense and he could be facing a 4 to 6 game suspension.
Gotta remember the Seahags got Lynch cheap from the Bills because of his off the field baggage.

  9. BergerNo Gravatar says:

I’ve heard the difference between OTA’s and Mini Camp is that Mini Camp is mandatory and OTA’s are not. Does anybody know for sure?

  10. RTFireflyNo Gravatar says:

Used to be, Reno. Now they’re pretty much all mandatory unless you’re on IR or something.
I gave up trying to keep track.
Except if you’re on the Jets. Then don’t worry about it.

  11. RTFireflyNo Gravatar says:

In case you don’t know, fellas.
That guy was writing about bringing overpaid athletes from overseas.
He was writing on behalf of the Brazilian National Football Team on what it takes to win.
I didn’t need to use a translator, either.

  12. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Interesting that Chris Ault accepted a consultant’s position with the Chefs. I thought he had said he wasn’t interested into being tied to a NFL team.
    Guess he changed his mind.

  13. RTFireflyNo Gravatar says:

Here is a scouting report, Skeebs.
    Never, ever buy Windows 8.

  14. BergerNo Gravatar says:

bullit- Ault was interviewed on the radio in Reno right after he stepped down. He was asked directly if he had any desires to coach again and he said no, but he said he was open to working as a consultant on the pro level. They said on the local station today that he will be doing some of his work from Reno.

How do you get arrested 3 times in 5 days? Ask Titus Young
    The details:
“Titus was arrested on DUI charges last Monday and released from jail. He then was arrested again doing his best “Gone in 60 Seconds” impression and trying to steal his car back out of the police impound lot. Then Friday he was arrested for a third time and charged with burglary, assault on a peace officer and resisting arrest”
Way to piss away a lucrative career. @nd round draft pick and 44th player chosen in 2011 draft.
Another Detroit failed WR draft pick.

  16. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Would’ve have liked Ault as our advisor but happy he’s in the AFC.
The Chefs are pickup his brain on how to defense the pistol and read option.

  17. bullitNo Gravatar says:

    Happy Birthday Frank Gore!
    #21 turns 30 today.
Still going strong I believe he still has 2 productive years left in the tank.10 years and retiring as a Niner would be my wish for him.

  18. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Chuck Muncie passed away today. He was 60. RIP
Dr Joyce Brothers also passed at the age of 85. RIP

  19. winderNo Gravatar says:

Yeah Skeebs, most Raider fans still talk about Stabler like he was their current QB. It will probably take a few more years before “Big Al’s” passing is understood.

  20. winderNo Gravatar says:

RIP to Chuck Muncie. Being a Stanford fan he was always a thorn in our side, but what a great football player he was.

  21. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

49ers invited 16 players to try out during rookie camp for one roster spot and the winner was FB Jason Schepler.

  22. BergerNo Gravatar says:

We kept the guy that plays the now becomming extinct position while we already have the position overloaded. Anybpody think we will be passing more this year?

  23. RTFireflyNo Gravatar says:

I do miss Chuck Muncie. I went to Cal and in between lectures and exams and everything, it was fun to catch a football game.
I missed him then because I’m a few years younger.
We’ll both be Blue and Gold Cal Bears when I join you in the big yonder.

  24. bullitNo Gravatar says:

They issued Jason Schepler #84 so he’s actually a TE/Hback or a blocking TE. He’s 6’2″ 274 lbs and fills the 90th roster spot at minimum wage.

  25. winderNo Gravatar says:

He’s probably a good special teamer.

  26. winderNo Gravatar says:

Is anyone else having trouble with the video’s on the 49er website or is it just me? Thanks.

  27. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

No problems here, Winder. What browser are you using?

  28. winderNo Gravatar says:

Explorer. I have always been able to watch them before but for about a week now I can’t get any of them to play. My computer is not that out of date I don’t think but it is a 32 bit. Maybe it’s time to upgrade. Thanks for letting me know. All the video’s on youtube play so I don’t know what’s up, I get the videos on the NFL channel to work to. Anyway, what a great time to be a Niner fan, the football Gods are definitely looking in on us.

  29. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

I’m wondering if Jason Schepler relieves Anthony Dixon of his Roster spot?
    Stay tuned……

  30. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

Dixon plays ST, RB and FB. Schlepler is going to have to have to really open some eyes to take that spot. More likely he is playing for a Practice Squad slot, I think.

  31. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

Schepler will lighten the load on Bruce I’m sure.
I’m figuring Dixon isn’t being relied upon, or trusted enough, to handle short yardage duties.
Especially when Tukuafu is being lined up bach there.
    We’ll see…..

  32. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Winder, the problem wouldn’t be with a 32-bit processor. It likely involves Adobe Flash Player. You either need to upgrade to latest version or try downloading the Chrome browser (it’s free and automatically keeps AFP updated) and seeing if that cures your ills.

  33. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Eric Mangini is joining the 49ers as a consultant and probably heir to Donatell’s job as secondary coach.

  34. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

LMAO. Oh to be a fly on the wall at the first encounter between the Mangina and “Diva” Crabtree. Might still be a little air to clear, there.

  35. winderNo Gravatar says:

Skeebs- Thanks, that did the trick and you were right once I downloaded Chome it brought up and updated Adobe download. I went computer shopping yesterday and luckily I didn’t see anything I really wanted. Mine is only 4GB but that is fast enough for me.

  36. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Good news, Winder. Glad you struck out on your shopping trip.

  37. bullitNo Gravatar says:

If Mangini wants a job he needs to apologize to MC.
Crabtree is one of the keys to the passing game and the offense.
I hadn’t seen this until today and thought I’d share.

  38. robNo Gravatar says:

HMM not too shabby when a former head coach AND ex patriot/ nfl god like mangini comes to you as an assistant !

  39. bullitNo Gravatar says:

    Mangini a football god?
33-47 record as a head coach and he was Defensive Coordinator for 1 year and NE finished 10-6 and 26th in defense in the NFL.
There is nothing that would indicate “god’ status that I can see.

My old friend talk me a great lesson.

Screwed up with every single one.

You pick and choose, and never, ever give up until you’re dead.
Then I think you’re allowed to.
My old friend was 1st Violinist at the new San Jose Symphony.
And she was my friends’ Mum. Just so you know.
    Never, ever give up.

  41. RTFireflyNo Gravatar says:

    “Told me”.
I told you Windows 8 is a loser.

  42. RTFireflyNo Gravatar says:

Her husband worked with my Dad.
I told you Windows 8 is a loser.
    So was Vista.
XP was the best, and my sis still writes to tell me what I an idiot I am to stay with you know what when I used to flip hamburgers for Woz and Jobs.

  43. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Sad to hear Dick Trickle apparently commited suicide today.
He was 71 and had one memorable name. RIP

  44. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Jonathan Goodwin has been a no show at the practices which are voluntary.
Goodwin is opening the door for Kilgore and Looney to get more reps and show the coaches they can replace Goodwin.
This might be one of the few position battles in training camp.

  45. bullitNo Gravatar says:

This week is football school part 2.
OTAs start officially next Wed as scheduled.
