49ers 23, Rams 20

Nick Mullens led two fourth quarter drives that gave the 49ers a come from behind victory against the Rams on Sunday afternoon. The win kept the Niners’ thin playoff hopes alive and knocked the Rams out of first place in the NFC West.

It was an easy game to watch since I never expected them to win until they actually did when Robbie Gould booted the winning FG as time expired. Not when they led 7-3 at the half. Not when they led 17-3 in the third quarter. Or 17-6. or 17-13, and certainly not when the Rams took the lead 20-17 to start the fourth quarter.

But the defense, as it had all day in a magnificent effort, forced two fourth quarter punts which allowed Mullens to chip his way down the field to tie the game and then later to win it.

Kerry Hyder picked up two sacks on the day, giving him seven and a half in his come-out-of-nowhere year. I doubt if anybody else on the team even has two.

Deebo Samuel finally returned to action and showed us all what we had missed. His eleven receptions for 133  yards provided most of the Niners’ offense for the day. Not to ask too much, but wouldn’t it be nice if Deebo and Brandon Aiyuk actually suited up on the same day sometime this year?

Believe it or not, but the Niners are only one game behind the Cardinals in the battle for the final playoff spot, with five games left to play, including the season ender against them.  The Vikings and Bears are also in this 5-6 bracket, but screw them for the moment. We have dreams to cultivate should we dare.

I missed the game yesterday but from what I have read and seen it was truly an inspirational win. Nice to see the never give up attitude alive and well. Whether we make the playoffs or not yesterday’s game seems destined to be a 49er classic and that is what this organization needed.

Jags have fired their GM and replaced him with Trent Baalkeas the interim GM.

Baalke working his magic and worming his way back up.

How can the Jags owner admire Baalke’s resume?.

Niners lose CB Jamar Taylor who tore his ACL yesterday.

Also Packers sign WR Tavon Austin who Niners released earlier this season.

Niners leave for Arizona on WEd and won’t be back until late Dec depending on the pandemic situation.

    Good news and bad news

The good news is that both Jimmy G and Kittle will be back for last two games of this year.

Bad news per Shanahan is that Dee Ford might be done for this year. Unless he restructures his contract drastically that could be the end for him as a Niner.

I think Ford is gone. Bosa and Hyder will be the starters next year. If the cap drops as much as I fear it will, a lot of veterans will be out of work come May. A lot of them may be signing for the minimum in July and August. Some of them won’t be back at all. Going to be a weird and unpleasant off-season.

Everyone in our starting secondary is questionable going into 2021, too. Sherman and Tartt I think will be gone. Verrett will be a free agent and there won’t be much money, so he could well leave, which is too bad, because he’s had a terrific year, and this is his home region. Even Ward could come down to cap space. Trent Williams on the offensive line could be gone. And of course there are questions about the QB position. The team could look markedly different next year.

“49ers activated WR Brandon Aiyuk, DL D.J. Jones and DL Jordan Willis off their Reserve/COVID list.”

Kerry Hyder has more sacks so far this year than Khalil Mack.

Wow. Giants beat Seattle in Seattle.

Rams beat Cardinals. If Niners beat Bills, they’re right in the thick of it for the final playoff spot.

Niners are still in it despite all the players going down.
The loss to the Egos really hurts and tonight is their chance to make up for that loss.
Follow the gameplan on how to neutralize Kylar Murray as some of his weaknesses have been exposed.
You have to wonder how the Giants who the Niners throttled can beat the Seahags.

A lot of things need to happen but Niners could sneak into playoffs.
