Washington 26, 49ers 24

Another week, another last second loss. The 49ers have developed an uncanny ability to almost, but not quite, win. Perhaps they will soon develop an uncanny ability to almost, but not quite, lose.

It might have to wait a couple of weeks with games upcoming against the Eagles and Cowboys.

Brian Hoyer’s last best chance to be a starting QB in the NFL probably slipped away to Neverland midway through the second quarter Sunday. After a 4-11 effort and 34 dinky yards, rookie CJ Beathard trotted in and rallied the Niners back from a 17-0 hole to tie the game, before coming up short down the stretch and losing by two points.

Of course, Beathard had a little help in performing his rally. Just before the half, Washington’s DJ Swearinger turned a Niner FG into a TD with a ridiculously stupid personal foul. Then in the third quarter, the refs allowed a highly dubious fumble recovery TD by Jimmie Ward that tied the game.

Still, Beathard did enough to get the starting nod for the remaining ten games. Whether that’s enough to establish himself as a rising young star or just another guy joining Hoyer in the career backup role remains to be seen.

The release of NaVorrow Bowman left the team with Brock Coyle and Ray-Ray Armstrong as the starting ILBs, and these two combined to allow 11 catches for 213 yards and one TD. One of the catches was a 51 yarder to our old friend Vernon Davis, who’s rolling happily along on his home town team. Half of this mismatch should be retired to special teams duty by the return of Reuben Foster this coming week. Whether Foster will be squaring off against the Cowboys’ Ezekiel Elliott or not is currently under judicial review.

The Niners remained tied with the Browns as the only two winless teams this year, after the Giants inexplicably flew to Denver and knocked off the Broncos yesterday. This was New York’s first game without star egomaniac WR Odell Beckham, so clearly Beckham was the problem all along.

All in all, if you don’t mind the losses, the 49ers have been quite entertaining this year. How long this sort of entertainment continues to be entertaining remains to be seen.

Yeah, I think we caught a break with that fumble recovery. With CJ taking the first string reps we should see a little more polished product. At practice anyway. Now all the opposing D’s are gonna game plan just for him so we will probably see quite a few rookie mistakes. Probably for quite a few games too. It also looks like we are gonna have a high draft pick this next year. Hopefully CJ won’t get hammered to bad because there is something about him that says he’s going to be a good football player. At least in my mind. We are truly in a total rebuild now so we might as well sit back and try to enjoy what this young team has to offer. It’s probably going to take 3 years for us to be a viable competitor in the league.

“NaVorro Bowman is signing a one-year, $3 million deal with the Raiders.”

    Bowman signs with Raiduhs.

Raiduhs need him and he doesn’t have to uproot family.

Armisted has a broken hand and could go on IR. Can’t shake injury bug
as he missed final 8 games last year with torn labrum.

Also Aaron Lynch might be out this week with strained calf.

    Good for Bow.
Sad to see this divorce in the manner in which it occurred.
He could seek to head back East next year and join VD in DC too, since he’s only committed to Oakland for this year.

CJ will learn on the job now.
    Zero pressure.
    Zero expectations.
    All good in my book.

Just hoping he’s the future answer to not Drafting a QB at the top of RD1.
Dealing back for extra Picks is a quicker way to retool the roster IMO.

    See what comes….

Sunday is reunion day for the 1981 team commemorating “The Catch”.
They are honoring Dwight Clark by giving away a DC “The Catch” tshirt to all who attend.
Significant as this is foundation game where the Super Bowl run and the five rings started. Above all the Niners beat the Cowgurls in a game that mattered.

Bowman follows in the footsteps of a long line of Niners that went to the Raiduhs mostly in the sunset years of their careers.

Lott, Plunkett, Rice, Craig, Crabtree, Romanowski, Rathman, Charlie Garner, Rod Woodson, Cedric Hardman, Ted Washington, Jeremy Newberry, Ted Kwalick, Jaimie Williams, Kwame Harris, Andre Carter, Stubblefield, Carlos Rogers, Tarell Brown, Shawntae Spencer and Aldon Smith.

It must be because they like the area and don’t want uproot the family. I hope Bowman has a great career over there. The old Raider mold is dead and gone and will be so even more when they move to Vegas. The perfect place for them if they have to leave Oakland.

Just announced that Colts just shut down Andrew Luck from throwing and gave him a cortisone shot. Looks doubtful if he will take field this year as we are at the halfway point.

Just shows you never know about injuries and this has cost Luck almost 2 seasons.

Looks like the chatter has gone from “we’re almost there” to “we suck and here’s why” once again.

Think they’d take a minute out of their protest posing to game plan for at least Elliott?

No difference, Jed loves the anti-American protests more than football. There will be no nasty tweets for these lousy players or head coach or GM. They all support the America haters, no matter if they can play a stupid game. Who cares?

Keep running Carlos. At least some real football guys are there today.

  13. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Too many mistakes today by the rookies.
Cowgurls just steamrolling so this is one of those games.
Game was a step backward against a hated rival. Let’s see if they bounce back next week against the Egos.

No Joe Buck because he’s prepping for the World Series but Brenneman and Aikman identified Policy as the architect of the Super Bowl teams which we all know was actually John McVay.
