Judging by the score, you’d think the 49ers’ defense had a really bad day. But 27 of the Rams 39 points came on drives of 27, 21, 34, 27, and 13 yards. And another two on a blocked punt safety.
The Rams scored only ten points on legitimate drives, the same as the Niners. All world RB Todd Gurley had only 63 yards rushing. QB Jared Goff had only 202 yards passing.
CJ Beathard. What can you say about Mr. Timex. Gets the hell kicked out of him every week, but still manages to give us a healthy dose of good CJ and bad CJ. The only thing we can be sure of is that bad CJ will do enough damage to sabotage whatever good CJ manages to accomplish. Sunday, it was two interceptions and one fumble.
OTOH, there’s Rams DT Aaron Donald. He didn’t do anything in last year’s game except throw a tantrum near the end of it. This year he was a human wrecking ball, with four sacks, six tackles for a loss, and one fumble recovery. Was the difference facing C Daniel Kilgore last year versus Weston Richburg this year? Or maybe having Ndamukong Suh lining up next to him on the D-line this year?
Reuben Foster barely showed up on the stat sheet Sunday, with just two measly tackles. He’s been a non-factor this year, along with Solomon Thomas, who’s become a part-time player. GM John Lynch‘s first two draft picks from 2017 are looking like busts. Wasted first round picks. Not good.
We’re probably getting close to the Jed York vicious tweet point. The little guy just had his team yanked out of a Sunday Night Prime Time spot, featuring the unveiling of the Dwight Clark statue and the visit of the 1984 championship team, then this game was scrubbed in the fourth quarter by the national network feed, which cut away to the Redskins/Cowboys game.
Next week, the Niners travel to Arizona, followed by home games against the Raiders and Giants. The three other one win teams in the league. Do the Niners belong in this group? Or will they win three straight and salvage a little pride for the 2018 season? We’ll find out just how bad this team is or isn’t.
When you see the talent the Rams have amassed via Draft capital why would we want to improve at this point?
Put the pups in the lineup, let them learn.
Eff Jed while they’re at it too.
This whole York Era has been an embarrassing fiasco anyway.
He deserves to suffer with the rest of us.
Exclamation point.
Reality.
Foster is a slower, smaller version of Patrick Willis. Add brittle shoulder. Not special, not a standout among 1st Rd LB’s. Compare to Roquan Smith (meet later this year) or Darius Leonard, who is racking up big tackle numbers.
Solomon Thomas just part of the rotational DT cast.
Joshua Garnett. Keeping him healthy for a trade to a non-OZ team?
Jonathan Cooper and Jeremiah Attachou fizzled.
Without Jimmy the magic is gone.
Shanahan not a standout either. Sean McVay germinated in the same Redskins environment with Gruden.
We need talent via drafting. No more team building moral victories. My divining rod senses Breida, Colbert, and Foster need 3 weeks to get their bodies right.
Amari Cooper to the Cowboys for a 1st round pick.
The Niners did hold that Gurley guy to three TDs, so cheers to the defense. Kittle’s was a bit iffy, too, but otherwise, yeah, the teams looked about equal in all respects!
Now, about all those pesky fumbles, sacks, safeties that should have been TDs, and interceptions …
Picky, picky.
Dysfunction Junction meets F-Troop.
We’re the Hekawi.
“Adrian Colbert to on IR with high-ankle sprain. It’s a 6-8-week injury.”
Yes. Great news.
Easily rehabbed and can do monster workouts in offseason. Poor depth will lead to more losses.
Raiders out doing us. No risk with a coin flip this time. Got great value for Mack and Cooper. First 1st at top of rd. Next two in the teens.
hopefully CJ files a police report today
for the repeated hit and runs by Donald yesterday.

and a missing person report
Because Mike Person has been missing since yesterday and was last seen before the game.

Our offensive line, really is. Garoppolo helped divert attention because he had decent field vision and got the ball out quicker. CJ is doing the best he can but he does not have those skills. Figure it’s about 1 in 3 at best that he makes it through the year, and that’s being charitable. Taking too many hits. Add in a secondary that’s banged up and about as helpless as blind kittens and it’s going to be a very long season.
The pressure is REALLY going to be on Lynch to get things right in the 2019 draft. And KS needs to at least show he can coach a team up enough to stop the dumb mistakes and penalties all day long. Or we’ll be spinning the Dysfunctional Rebuilding Wheel again before we know it.
In a slightly recast version of the Hekawi legacy – 😀
“Many moons ago, tribe leave Youngstown because Yorks ruin neighborhood!
Tribe travel west, over stream, over river, over mountain, over mountain, over river, over stream! Then come big day… tribe fall over cliff. That when Hekawi get name. Medicine man say to my ancestor, “I think we lost. Where the heck are we?”
You’re in York’s version of the SF49ers.
Santa Clara Dysfunction Junction.
“Eric Reid grievance against Bengals denied by arbitrator.”
Whiner. Hahaha.
So wassup with the D this year, great stuff in here.

NYG, Oakland starting the fire sale.
Our turn to play the same game.
They’ll both be laying down now.
OBJ reunion with LSU teammate Landry in Cleveland?
Gruden will create more complications for us in Draft than NYG.
Gruden will be shopping for the same pieces we’ll be in need of.
NYG will certainly be in QB mode in RD1 but, Draft slots are always a bargaining chip.
OBJ is gonna want the limelight. The Rams will get him. But you are right NJ there is some serious tanking going on. Of course the reply will be they were not team players and just maybe they weren’t but it still smells badly.
Here is Madrid on the 7 sacks.

These are highlight plays so I hope these are the worse highlights. Please tell me I am wrong.
Richburg is great with OZ with his mobility and element of surprise is with the OLinemen. He is too small to pass pro on mobile DT’s. Donald was bull rushing him into CJ. He could not handle Suh or Donald.
I sympathize with Shanahan desiring to get OZ at a high level both left and right. He made the wrong choice. Admit it.
There were 2 FA’s at OG in 315 to 320 lb range that were mobile enough for OZ. We passed on both who were in their early 30’s. They had to know at FA start they were targeting McGlinchey. That means Billy Price and Frank Ragnow were undraftable cuz we had a big draft hole after #9.
Shanahan and Lynch phucked up bad. They knowingly chose OZ mobility at the expense of interior pass pro. They exposed our QB’s to an interior pass rush that cannot be stopped with Richburg ever.
Forget your homer dreams about playoffs. Multi year build has to go on. Need a 315 lb mobile Alex Mack C and two new OG for OZ with size.
We trusted these guys to get it right. Overpaid and oversold Richburg and McKinnon. On D to make up for lack of edge rush the secondary had to do multiple schemes and blitz packages. It will take a while to absorb.
Please lose every GD game left this year. Without high draft picks to get stars on this roster, we are phucked and no chance for playoffs.
How do you beat a DL like the Rams? OZ mobile or Cowboy power.
Watching the game today and noticing how badly Foster overran his gap responsibilities all afternoon.
Not impressed with him, or Thomas, thus far.
Hate to use bust tags this early but, for a pair of 1st RDers, I have to wonder what Lynch and Saleh were shopping for.
NYG and OAK had very little cap space left so their trades have reason. Both are weakened enough that we cannot out race them to the gutter, except for key injuries occurring next 4 games.
Outside of DeFo and Jimmy, at best trades will net us day 3 picks. IND has a great rookie class and Luck. Not worried about them or CLE getting underneath us. BUF is bad enough.
We may be stuck with #4 to #9.
How can Person or Richburg lose a bullrush to a 285 lb Aaron Donald?
Richburg playing with some level of knee injury since week 4?
NJ, seem to recall reading early on when we took on this 4-3 Under cover 3 scheme that the Mike takes on blockers more so than the Will. Will more likely to be free and can flow to the ball.
If this is true, then some LAR OL got to the second level. So the DL failed to neutralize the OL at LOS. LB’s find it very tough to stack and shed 300 lb OL.
Wade Phillips put our Blitz pickup to shame.
Aaron on the run couldn’t be stopped by a brick wall.
Coaching and talent level has completely changed the level of play in LA.
We are sunk if similar improvements aren’t made by Lynch on D.
Protect the QB
Sack the QB
Our trenches need major upgrades to compete with what LA has going for them.
I’m starting to think Saleh may be the wrong guy for young players?
Way too much confusion on D week after week.
If they can’t learn by now, there’s some major concerns between Lynch and Saleh that need to be addressed.
Watched the LAR game today.
Foster overshot his gaps.
Couldn’t get off blocks.
Slow to recognize his assignments.
I’m willing to deal him if any value is offered for him before the Trade deadline.
Warner looks better overall to me.
On a couple of the sacks McGlinchey could not keep him off CJ. Hard to double team both Suh and Donald.
Their DL overwhelmed our OL. Richburg and Person are undersized and cannot anchor well. Pocket collapse of IOL had CJ eating OL behind in 2 seconds it seemed.
I guess CJ cannot find the quick WCO routes like Jimmy can. He needs to develop a quick trigger. He is just as responsible as OL for his fate. I wonder if on huddle break the OL tells CJ to be safe.
FO write an insurance policy on our QB’s?
Foster feeling the effects of overuse of weed for pain and recreation?
FO needs to tell players to stay off weed. The non-hallucinogenic part of weed is cbd oil. Maybe takes less of a toll on their neurological quick twitch and reaction pathways.
After his marijuana infractions settled in Alabama and the other stuff thrown out, is he taking mandatory drug tests.
Cops in Los Gatos said there was a strong odor of ganja weed in his pad.
NFL players get a bye on this stuff too? My lawyers talk with your lawyers and things get settled.
No argument regarding DL keeping LBs clean Bakkentom.
KStreet an unknown/untested IR commodity.
Jullian still raw. Potential in waiting. Nothing more.
I’ve always liked the traditional Fat Man in the middle of a 3-4 approach personally.
Foster just seems reckless to me. Undisciplined and slow to read/react.
Again, Coaching or inability to learn?
Pro football is a dynamic sport. Coaches and players looking to get that edge.
We may have been deluded last 5 games of last year. Thinking Walsh’s WCO is the solution to success. DC’s continually find ways to attack it and OC’s respond in a yearly leapfrog.
Did GB evolve it best to meet yearly challenges. If so then our OL failed. McCarthy and Rodgers need how much time for their routes in probably the best current WCO.
Are IOL in pass pro is garbage. Back to the drawing board. One step forward, two steps back.
New post is up.
