What a pathetic game. If Charles Haley was still on the team, he’d have torn up that brand new, state-of-the-art, comfy ass locker room in Santa Clara after this one.
The Rams deserved to win the game, but they didn’t deserve to have it given to them. Referee Jerome Boger and his crew completely screwed up the final plays of the game, denying the 49ers two ball-over-the-goal-line TDs and letting 20 seconds or so run off the play clock while they were scratching their butts ineptly.
Some day, Colin Kaepernick will figure out how to score with four shots from the 5 yard line. Maybe. For now, though, there’s a reason this team is ranked 30th in Red Zone scoring. The 49ers could probably help him along by letting Michael Crabtree walk after the season, so Kaepernick would have to lean on real play makers — like Anquan Boldin and Stevie Johnson and Vernon Davis.
Speaking of which, where is Vernon? You wouldn’t know he even played yesterday.
Until then, the team will have to get a lead and rely on the defense to hold it, because Kaepernick has never led a winning game ending drive and seems no closer now than he was two years ago. Unfortunately, they can’t get a lead anymore, either.
Outsider commenter Bigjon nailed it from last night’s thread: “It is the worst offense with the best talent I’ve ever seen!”
The 49er offense is a mess. It’s been a mess all year. A week ago, Alex Smith shredded this Rams defense. Sunday, we made them look like the ’85 Bears. Awful and unwatchable.
The 49ers obviously took the BYE week to heart and came back to work with their heads still on the beach somewhere. That’s two consecutive disinterested efforts from them. Maybe the team really has tuned out Jim Harbaugh. Maybe they’re just emotionally gassed from the intensity of three straight grueling, but ultimately unsuccessful seasons. Whatever. They suck.
Time to start scouting the 2015 draft and preparing for a tumultuous offseason, folks. The 49ers are going nowhere this year. If you have a towel, throw it in.
