Raiders Still Suck!

Nice try, Raiders. Har har hearty har har.

Those evil little boys tried everything. They juiced the play clock, they drained the playbook, they begged and prayed — all to no avail as the 49ers treated them like a light scrimmage of little consequence, flicking aside the pretenders like they were just a booger wad lofted out through an open car window.

Hate to tell you this, Raider guys, but when you play the Niners during the season, you’ll have to cover Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis, not Delanie Walker and Nate Byham. Better phone in a forfeit right now. That game will be uglier than your average Raider fan, a class of ugly citizenry that Who’s the Biggest Loser culls voraciously for its contestants.

Okay Niners. Enough with the pre-season wins. Lay down like dogs against San Diego this week. Perfect pre-seasons are a jinx. We need a silly loss here.

I was able to watch the game live online via But it was a Raiders broadcast. Yuck. Had to turn off the sound and turn on KNBR radio for the play by play. Still, it was annoying. All the screen shots and replays focused on the Raiders. I even got teared up during the opening intro with Jim Plunkett and Tom Flores sitting there in the booth looking out at the camera like two guys who had just spent the night in jail on a drunk bust. Not much life in these fellows. That’s what watching Raiders football over the years will do to you. The morgue crew.

Every time you think Frank Gore is good, but not great, he steps on the field for a couple of plays and boom! he shoots through the line, bowls over a safety, and takes off for fifty yards. Mike Singletary said he wanted him in this game so the new O-line guys could get a feel for his quickness. It didn’t take long. Mike Iupati was probably just hunkering down to hold his block when Gore shot past him leaving wind burn marks. Iupati had to be going, “Whoa. I don’t need to make a block with this guy so much as get out of his way.”

Iupati is the real deal, fans. He’ll be dominating that left side for a long, long time. Running backs are going to be standing in line hoping to play for the Niners. If the team makes the playoffs this year with that newly formed O-line, look out world for the coming years as this line matures and the QB-WR connections mature along with it.

The defense did not look good Saturday night. It missed Shawntae Spencer, obviously, but it seemed more than that. I’m going to chalk it up to pre-season. A little dibbling and dabbling gone awry. Let’s talk Patrick Willis instead. He seems to be adding pass rushing to his formidable repertoire. Straight up the middle blasts reminiscent of Gore’s running going the other way. When teams get the tape on this new Willis feature, it should loosen the edges for the OLB guys. Not to mention giving QBs a tremor of fear when they turn to drop back from center, wondering if their spine is about to be rearranged in the next second or two.

Speaking of OLB guys, where is Parys Haralson? He was invisible most all of 2009, but the Niners shrugged it off with the “battling injuries” excuse. The only time I’ve noticed him in the pre-season is when he’s getting beat to the outside on running plays. He’s supposed to be our three down OLB, with Manny Lawson coming off the field on passing downs. Looks to me like that designation is about to end as soon as Ahmad Brooks is healthy. You cannot keep Brooks and Travis LaBoy out of there come third and long. They appear to be our best pass rushers.

Cut down week is here. One last hurrah for the soon to be waived in Thursday’s game against the Chargers. If you have a favorite bubble guy, take a last look. You might not ever hear of these fellows again.

My two bubble guys are NT/Mitchell and FB/Miller. I’m guessing one or both could get the axe. I’m thinking the most likely scenario is Mitchell makes the team and Miller goes to Seattle.
Unless we keep 6 WR it looks like we cut Jason Hill. I like Hill but I like the 5 ahead of him better.
I’m hoping we can keep Boone and Simms, that might not happen. The one that gets cut goes to Seattle.
Speaking of Seattle, if we lose that game hide your women and children from DelMarDennis. I’m not sure if I would want to talk to him that week if we lose. Come to think of it, I’m not sure if I would want to talk to myself!

If we lose to Seattle, the blogs will explode. And N.O. up next. My stomach hurts thinking about it.
Hill is a goner. No big deal. I think they keep both Sims & Boone. Miller & Mitchell can still go on PS, I pretty sure. Curtis Taylor may be ticketed for PS too, if he clears waivers. Hope we don’t lose him. I have my final 53 prepared. Think I should list it tomorrow?

I refuse to say game one in any year is a must win unless I don’t have confidence in my team. The irony is if we lose game one to Seattle how much confidence do I still have? I agree it is a very important game to win, but a must win? No way.

Berger, we lose the Seattle game and I will have to declare the Mayans as false prophets. For a loss to the Seahawks will render all predictions, forewarnings and divinations made by those harbingers of doom null and void. Forget December 21, 2012 Berger. We lose to Seattle, and the world ends September 12, 2010.

  5. BergerNo Gravatar says:

If we lose it is a good thing we have the Sierra Nevada range in between us to protect us on the other side. I’ll be looking out for Mayans and DelMars!

    good going skeebs !
nice follow – up to your last post !

now that we’ve flipped the booger that is the raiders into the trash , we can go on into the regular season looking forward to the day we can do it again !!!

now all we have to do is survive the seahawks and raider regular season games and we’ll be all set !

omg , just imagine if we played dallas this year ! i’m not too sure the four of us here would survive the stress of it all without having a heart attack first before we even got to the games !

omg ! the heck with the end of the world … just beat seattle and LA !!!

Well, losing that 1st game would mean that 1-3 is highly likely. The early schedule is tough. KC on the road shouldn’t be a big deal, but Atl is a tough place to win, as well as Seattle. 3 of the first 4 on the road, home game vs the defending SB champs, and they have to fly to fucking London for the Denver ‘home’ game.

1-3 would mean scramble mode. Even then, they should be able to get to 4-4 by the break. All would not be lost. It would be hard, but they could still take the division. Best case scenario is 5-3 before the bye, and 6-2 after. I think it’ll go 5-3, 5-3.

    hope ?
    here’s my take on 2010

    seattle … win
    saints … lose
    chefs … win
    falcons … lose
    eagles … lose
    raiders … win
    panthers .. win
    broncos … lose
    lambs … win
    bucs … win
    tards … win
    packers … lose
    hawks … win
    chargers .. lose
    lambs … win
    tards … win

or something close to that !

Rob, I’ve been saying 10-6 for a while now, and I think they should be able to pull it off.

I think they beat the Iggles. SD is going to be a cake walk.

    Carolina? Maybe not.

So, 10-6 should be doable. 11-5 is possible.

  11. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Rumors wafting around that Niners won’t waste a roster spot on Nate Davis and instead keep an ST guy. Nate lovers will go bananas if he’s cut.

  12. robNo Gravatar says:

    wow chuck ,
10-6 is looking more and more do-able !
(that beats the heck out of the hopeless , soul crushing days before sing took over !)
i know some of my wins will loses and some of the losses wins , but i’m guessing it will work out pretty close to this ( and expect it to even out) when everything is said and done !

the philly and carolina games are two that bring up interesting questions ! philly without mcnabb gives us a better chance , but carolina tends to be up and down !

not sure why you’d think san diego would be an easy game tho ?

  13. robNo Gravatar says:

oh no skeebs ! where did you hear that ?
no way that other (4th) QB we have is better than nate !?
are you sure that isn’t just speculation ?

  14. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Sure it’s speculation, Rob. Phil Barber is floating the hints on Twitter. Combine it with Singletary saying Schottenheimer will get to determine 6 to 7 ST roster spots, and the Niners just going with two QBs this year, and stashing Brown on the PS. Getting the feeling they are fed up with Davis. We’ll see. Would be a very bold move by Sing, and probably not too popular.

  15. robNo Gravatar says:

skeebs , i just read sing’s interview with barrows .
going with just two QB’s , and that unknown kid , would be a bad move .
i think sing is just trying to coax a better over-all game out of carr !
that last game with just one good play won’t cut it !
he also might be throwing nate a bone !

  16. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Just a rumor so far, Rob. But with all the emphasis on ST, I could easily see Sing looking at a 3rd QB as a wasted roster spot for someone who will contribute nothing this year.

  17. unca_chuckNo Gravatar says:

SD is due for a collapse of epic proportions. I think their defense will suck balls.

  18. unca_chuckNo Gravatar says:

Very risky to dump Davis (or PS him as he’ll get taken).
Carr looks like sun-dried shit for the most part.
Maybe Indy will dump painter, eh Dennis? He’s another crusty turd . . .

  19. unca_chuckNo Gravatar says:

I really don’t think they’re going into the season with Smith, Carr, and whatsizname . . .

  20. bigtimNo Gravatar says:

good work skeebers, the silver and smack is just that, one thing for sure the opening game of the season is going to be good to see just how well Hasselbeck handles the revisitation of the crusher P Willis, after this preseason’s fireworks its got to be a thought in his mellon.
not sure who is going to take N.Davis though he seems to be a project and next years draft is loaded with QB’s most teams want ready QB’s at this point not the 5th round cast off( or perceived cast off)of a 8-8 niner team he might just make it through wavers and get to the PS if not then there’s always next years draft.
Jarret brown is supposed to be a solid potential QB without all the LD baggage that has been Nate’s big stumbling block
