Packers 34, 49ers 17

The 49ers got jobbed last Thursday night. The game should have been rescheduled, like games earlier in the season were, but the NFL didn’t want to lose the Thursday TV revenue.

It probably didn’t matter since the team was down to 3rd stringers and guys off the street, but I’m sure teams in the NFC North weren’t too pleased at the Packers getting a slam dunk win.

The quality and legitimacy of the product is clearly of lesser importance to the NFL this year than cramming through an entire season. Quantity over quality this year.

Nothing like a year gone awry to bring out the blogosphere GM wannabe wolves. Nevermind the Niners were a SB team last year. Now they’re junk and need to be rebuilt. Jimmy Garoppolo must be replaced. The coaches suck, the GM sucks. It’s going to be a long season and a longer offseason.

I suppose we should root for the team to finish badly, to inch as far up the 2021 draft board as possible. We certainly have a lot of practice in that regard.

Sorry for the late post and the lack of any imagination or energy in its content. As everyone is aware, there were a few other events occurring this past week that drew my interest considerably more than the meagre comings and goings of the injury prone 49ers.

It was painful to watch. With all hope gone for playoffs, it’ll be mildly interesting to see how the boys handle themselves.

Crazy as it seems both Seahags and Cards lost yesterday so Niners didn’t lose ground to anyone but Rams who had their bye.

I have always advocated for a backup QB that could push the starter to be his best and compete for the position.
They need to draft a QB every other year and try to groom the backup to be a starter.
The current QB situation is Baalke’s model. You have a starter and two spares who basically are scrubs. Mullins doesn’t have the physical talent and might make a good QB coach. Beathard has shown nothing from year 2 and it’s time to move on from him.

There were a few QBs drafted this year and Burrow and Tua will be decent starters. The gem of the draft might be Herbert. He has “it” and he looks like a polished QB even though he’s a rookie.

I’d stick with Jimmy until they get someone equal or better and I would not fall into the trap of using a first rounder on guys that have emerged this year Trey Lance, Zach Wilson and Kyle Trask all now projected as first rounders who might turn out to be your next Mariota, Haskens or Josh Rosen.

And no DO NOT bring in Kirk Cousins.

For those who were thinking Tom Brady might have been the answer
over Jimmy G, last night showed Brady without protection is very subpar. Brady looked 50 years old throwing 3 picks and under a heavy pass rush.

Yeah, until we have a shot at a good prospect QB we should stick with Jimmy. It’s always been hit or miss on them but at some point you have to take the shot. I am pretty sure SK knows what he’s looking for. It seems the league is somewhat catching up to some of the more running QB’s like Lamar and Murray. By next year defenses will have a better understanding on how to stop those guys. The good thing about both of those QB’s is that they do know how to read defenses. And that makes em dangerous. There really is no way evaluate our year since we are basically playing scrubs.

Never have I been more happy to have forgotten a Thursday night game.

One of Jimmy’s strong points, in my mind, has been his calmness under pressure. That seemed to be in question against Seattle. I think the combination of all his injuries, combined with an O-line that doesn’t seem too interested in stopping the defense from hitting him, is making him real nervous.

“WR River Cracraft and S Johnathan Cyprien have been promoted to the active roster from the team’s practice squad.”

Looks like Sherman is ready to return, also.

    The speculation begins….

Along with some news I’ve seen that Tartt is likely done for the season and, quite possibly, won’t see another Contract with us.

We’ve got to unload a ton of money.
Not the least of which involves Jimmy’s deal.

  9. bullitNo Gravatar says:

    Sorry NJ

Giants are giving up on Daniel Jones, Washington on Haskins ,Cards on Rosen AND Jest on Darnold in less than two years. Then you have guys like Trubisky, Paxton Lynch and Mariota and Philly is going back and forth on Wentz. Same on Goff and Carr

I’ll stick with Jimmy G as he’s taken this team to the Super Bowl already and when he’s healthy and played he’s been a winner. He doesn’t put up stats like Matthew Stafford but Stafford seems to always be on the losing end.

Why make QB an immediate need not shore up the weakest parts of the team.

Draft a QB in later rounds and develop them correctly so they can challenge for the starting job in a couple of years. That’s my solution to what I think is not a problem because if you look at this team they have been decimated by so many injuries that Joe and Steve might have problems with 3rd stringers.

  10. bullitNo Gravatar says:

In 1962 Joe Montana went 3-6 when he crossed the picket line and played with a “replacement team”. for the Niners
Even the greatest QB can only do so much.

  11. bullitNo Gravatar says:

First I think Armstead has not performed up to his new contract and he is due $13 mil next year. Richburg is also about $12M and he’s been hurt the last 2 years so he’s gone unless he agrees to a team friendly contract. Dee Ford is due $20 mil and is good as gone.
Those 3 contracts represent 25% of the cap and they trimmed another $12 mil by trading Alexander.

I have faith that Lynch and Parag will do what it takes to make this team a contender.

  12. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Hard to judge a QB who’s trying to play hurt.

Will always remember the coaching malpractice of Mike Nolan pushing Alex Smith to play with a seperated shoulder. Nolan was out of control as he was also the GM. Dark times in Niner history.

  13. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Playing the Aints tomorrow, Ann Killion reminds us about last year’s game which the Niners won in a shootout

“Garoppolo outdueled Drew Brees, throwing for 349 yards (26 of 35 completions) and four touchdowns. He threw an interception, but it had skipp off the hands of receiver Emmanuel Sanders.”

  14. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

Bullit Jimmy is carrying a hefty price tag.
For that reason, I’m not impressed with the production.
No reason not to think he can be restructured to improve the Cap situation.
Question becomes, for me, how valuable might he be to Bill?
I just feel as though Jimmy has been figured out.
His problem throwing deep is starting to show.
If Belichick is willing to throw a quality Draft Pick back our way, I’d be more than willing to take it.

We’ve gotten into some serious Cap limitations now and, it will obviously need some restructuring, at several positions.
Time to replace some Vet deals with Rookie deals, which involves Picks.

  15. bullitNo Gravatar says:

I am fairly certain that a more team friendly contract is in the works.
Not sure that Belichicks ego will allow him to trade back for Jimmy and if that it won’t be a 1st or 2nd rounder. That would be admitting he blew it.

Have you ever heard of Wilson or Trask now being touted as top ten picks? I follow college football and I haven’t until this year.

If you want Kyler Murray/Lamar Jackson you might consider D’eriq King
the Miami QB who is a grad transfer from Univ of Houston. He is listed at 5’11” and probably is closer to 5’9″ but is similar to Murray and could be Lamar Jackson Lite.

Wait another year for the North Carolina QB Sam Howell. He could be the Heisman favorite next year.

  16. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

    49ers inactive players vs. Saints

    WR Deebo Samuel (hamstring
    CB Ahkello Witherspoon
    CB K’Waun Williams (ankle)
    RB Tevin Coleman (knee)
    LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (hamstring)

  17. bullitNo Gravatar says:

BS call on Kentavius Street sack of Brees. He gets called for roughing the passer. The tackle was not landing his full weight on Brees.
That is why on major penalties a coach should be allowed to challenge or it should be an automatic review.
The difference was the penalty gave them a first and goal instead of 3rd and long in a tight game at that time.

  18. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

Brees ALWAYS seems to get us with these ticky tak penalties.
Like TB12 they seem to be much more sensitive with the whistles.
Either way, Defense comes to play for us, can’t take that for granted given all the injuries we’ve had.

Bullit, as for Belichick, Jimmy is a plug-n-play option.
He was dealt because Kraft favored Tom, and, they couldn’t pay both.
I don’t Bill wanted to part with Jimmy and, put him in a good place out of respect.
We’ll see how things play out.

I’m starting to wonder if Nick is being tested while they keep CJ from view?
Shanny chose them both of course but CJ cost him more in terms of value.
    Maybe CJ sticks? Who knows?
We’ll know more if CJ sees action after the BYE perhaps.
