The 49ers will be having OTAs this week, Tuesday through Thursday. It’s my duty to report these things, even if all of you could care less.
There was a time these spring practices were informative, even festive. But those days have moved to Kansas City.
So far this offseason, we’ve learned that AJ Jenkins is going to be wide open this year, Ricardo Lockette has the potential to be wide open this year, Eric Reid will not let anyone be wide open this year, the competition for second string quarterback is going to be wide open this year, and Patrick Willis’ fly is going to be wide open this year. Needless to say, the veracity of these learnings is wide open to interpretation.
One player who will not be joining the wide bandwagon is Anquan Boldin, who prefers to be narrow open. Sounds a little thin on savvy, but how can you knock a guy with an SB ring? At our expense, no less.
The race is on this year to be the first $20,000,000 quarterback to actually win a Super Bowl. Newly enshrined 20 millers Tony Romo and Joe Flacco will be joined by perennial overpaiders Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Drew Brees. Five of these fellows won SBs before they got too much money, but none has won since crossing the DOLLAR threshhold. Can anyone name the QB from above that got paid even though he hasn’t won a SB? Can anyone NOT name this party crasher?
The 49ers have once again reached the level where most of the teams they face are beaten as soon as the team comes out of the tunnel and onto the playing field. Unfortunately, they only play five games this year against these pre-shrunk opponents. The other eleven games will be, you guessed it, wide open affairs.
If the team goes .500 in the contested games, they’ll reach 10.5 victories this year. Good enough for a wild card ticket, but not likely good enough to win the NFC West.
Skeebers Skeeberton Skeebaroni, reporting for Wide World of Sports.
I don’t know if you guys noticed, or not, but I’ve been trying to let Dennis know that AJ Jenkins was always wide open in college! I should call him to tell him!
Dennis is closed on Mondays.
Tony Romo, i think.
Tomorrow Noon is when the NFL announces is the Niners will host
Super Bowl L in 2016 which is all but a slam dunk because Miami hasn’t commited to refurbishing their stadium.
It seems just to be a formality but you never know.
If nothing else the NFL Experience has booked Moscone Center for that week so there will be a lot of events happening throughout the Bay Area.
Oklahoma City has been hit again with supercell F5 tornadoes.
This tornado hit Moore a suburb of OKC and was more than a mile wide and stayed on the ground for over 10 mins.
The news chopper reporter said it was the biggest tornado in the history of the world.
Another male reporter was sobbing on air when they came upon an elementary school that was flattened.
There are lots that are just bare concrete foundations as the debris was swept clean away.
If you believe in the almighty, these people deserve your prayers.
We now know besides being slow why Keenan Allen went freefalling into the 3rd round of the draft.
Apparently footspeed is not the only way he’s slow.

Berger take a listen to this jam from the show I saw over the weekend.
Billy Squier joined Joe for killer offering of Crossroads.
Show was off the hook.
Warren Haynes was there on his opening night and did the same song with him.
Sorry I wasn’t there for that one.

NJ- Did you record this? I like it! Did you know they are both playing the same model guitars from 1959?
My friend in New York, who meets me in SF for one game per year to see the 49ers, had a buddy buy six tickets to see Joe Bonamassa at the Beacon Theater in New York. When they got there Saturday night they found out the buddy, who calls me Boiga because that is how he pronounces Berger, did not check his tickets. The tickets for their show was for the previous Thursday. Bummer. Nine hundred dollars gone and no Banamassa.
That is some serious, serious stupid.
I told my NY friend that I have this technique when buying tickets. As soon as I get them in my hands I check the date, time and seats!
Love the music but can’t stand the prices anymore. For that kind of money I figure a limo and backstage passes are in order.
No surprise: Super Bowl L comes to the new Santa Clara stadium.
Yay. It will surely bring outstanding publicity for the whole area and a boatload of cash.
Eddie D is a genius, too, like Bergs.
3-13 couldn’t find their own jocks and now this.
Now, Bullit, do you understand?
They all read everything.
It’s their jobs.
Now the rest of the job is getting the Stadium finished.
Then Super Bowl 50 baby.
RT- Brilliant post. I love the way you started it!
Bergs, they just awarded SB 50 practically where I grew up.
I know that area really well.
I’m just pissed that they waited so long and it took an intervention from Eddie.
Ever been to Great America? It’s alright I guess trying to be Disneyland. Fail, they know it too.
No Berger, not my recording, it was done by someone sitting in the first few rows apparently.
The show was outstanding.
We were about 12 rows back just left of center. Phenomenal show.
Had your friends made the Thursday date, they would have caught Warren Haynes. Wish I had, he rocks too.
There are several good videos on YouTube from his Beacon gig last week.
All good quality too.
Gotta love technology.
Joe just released his new CD today with Beth Hart, ‘Seesaw’.
I plan on picking it up before the weekend.
Beth is Janis Joplin without the smokers’ growl.
Great voice for Rock and Roll.
Should be a good listen.
I’ve heard two songs from Seesaw. Both excellent. Beth Hart is a classic female blues voice.
PFT is reporting that Harbaugh will drive the pace car for the Indy 500.
Quite the celeb our Jim.
Does make some sense.
He’s involved with a Racing Team.
NFL inks deal with Microsoft today. You might see all the coaches with MS Surface Tablets in the near future.

This is something you don’t see today’s players do.
I heard the story that Kobe Bryant is suing his parents for selling $450,000.00 of “stuff” he left at their house because it wasn’t theirs to sell. Kobe Bryant makes $30 mil a year.
In contrast Kevin Durant donated
$1 million to the Red Cross quietly without a press conference
or fanfare for OKC tornado relief.

Kevin Durant is a class act.
Brian Urlacher just announced his retirement.
HOF in five years?
“Wide receiver Michael Crabtree has a torn Achilles suffered yesterday.”
Wow.
The Seahawks get Percy Harvin and our best WR gets a torn Achilles.
I’m sure Bullit will spin that in the Niner’s favor somehow.
Maybe we can get Craig Dahl to convert into the next Wes Welker. We already know he can’t play safety.
But, hey! We get to host Super Bowl L. Those ‘L’s’ will be coming early and often this year.
The stupid bastard just couldn’t have broken his collarbone or something. I am so pissed. I was just getting excited about the upcoming season. Now? “Starting at wide receiver for your San Francisco Forty Niners. From Illinois, #17, A.J. Jenkins…”
Good thing he’ll be wide open all the time…
The 49ers WR position is like a black hole.
I’m not a Brandon Lloyd fan – but we might have to bite that bullet at this point. Or someone similar.
I was thinking about Lloyd also.
Niners need to honestly evaluate Manningham and K Williams on their ability to contribute this year.
If not then bring in a veteran like Lloyd or Steve Breaston is Early Doucest who are all still available.
I would squash the suggestions to bring Moss or TO back. No to that.
This is all Alex Smith’s fault. Even with him gone bad shit continues to happen.
Del- It’s a good thing AJ Jenkins is always open!
As far as injuries go it could be worse. Crabtree is one of the best players on our roster to lose but this is a contract year and I doubt he he would re-sign with us. If he does his value might have just gone down. We have lot of young WRs and it is time for one or more of them to step up. We might have just lost our one emerging star at WR but we do have depth and speed.
Crab has two years left on his contract. They got a sixth year out of him because he held out half the first year. Looks like he’ll miss his fourth TC in five years.
Crabtree becomes a UFA after the 2014 season and this is not a contract year for him.
Niners are keeping quiet about the injury but Schefter and Mortenson have reported that Crabtree has already had the surgery to repair the injury so the rehab clock has already started.
Sorry about that. When I was driving earlier I was listening to Scott Van Pelt with Scott Russillo and they kept saying it is a contract year. Sounds like they had it wrong.
Crabtree IIRC had a voidable year after this year – but I think this injury will prevent that, so he’ll be back under the same contract in 2014. We’ll likely evaluate him after we see how he recovers before deciding what to do about 2015 and beyond.
Bergs, AJ was constantly open last year, too! Most plays, the defense could not effing cover him!!!
Of course, that’s because he was on the sideline.
In honor of Berger we should rename AJ Jenkins “Denny’s”. Always open.
I like it. As in Del Mar Dennys!
Harbaugh speaks

1997 Rice goes down in first game of the season with a knee injury.
Team rallies and wins the division going 13-3 making it to the NFC Championship Game before
the Pack kicks our butts.
Denny Downer thinks it’s over but not the Company Man.
Put that in your crackpipe and smoke it.
Bullit, there’s no spinning or putting a happy face on this one — it stings. We got stung real bad. This ranks up there with how Sansa Stark felt on her wedding night with the Imp. Save me some wine, Tyrion. We’re going to need it.
Once a drama queen, always a dramem queen, eh, Denny’s?
If it was Kappy or Willis I’d be worried.
Between Lockette, Patton and Jenkins one guy will emerge to pick up the slack and catch 50 passes and 6 TDs. They need to step up until Crabtree can return.
Not putting on a happy face but rather fight than curl up in the fetal position and give up.
No reason to believe Niners are done. Far from it.
New post is up.
