Lions 32, 49ers 17

The 49ers set an NFL record Sunday in Detroit: most offside penalties in one half. Six. And that’s your 49er highlights for the game!

They also nailed themselves to the basement floor in the NFC West. Next week, the team will attempt to finish dead last in the entire NFL! They’ll probably do their part to attain this mark of shame, but the Browns and Titans have been sucking a lot longer than the Niners, so it will be tough to under perform them.

The 49er running game again functioned reasonably well, despite an ever changing cast of characters from one week to the next. Perhaps this has something to do with RB coach Tom Rathman, the only decent coach on the team. Clearly, if the Niners are going to become top dog at the bottom of the league, Rathman must go!

The Niners did try out a new method for stinking Sunday. Normally, they suck in the first half, fall behind by a couple of TDs, then rally futilely in a garbage time second half. Yesterday, however, they played competitively in the first half, then reverted to ineptitude in the second half. HC Jim Tomsula continues to show great versatility when it comes to losing games, in marked contrast to his predecessor.

After the game, in response to a question about whether Detroit was a “step ahead of the Niners,” Tomsula replied: “I don’t know if they were a step ahead. Obviously, they were a step ahead of me.”

It’s possible to admire a guy who knows he’s lousy and can admit it. If this were an AA meeting or a man stepping into a confessional. But this is the NFL, where nice guys finish last. So the only ones who can admire this frankness are owner Jed York and GM Trent Baalke, who are even lousier at their jobs than Tomsula is at his, and are more than willing to let Tomsula grab the spotlight and take the blame.

One game left for the 2015 49ers. Next Sunday, at home against the St. Louis Rams. The last home game against the Bengals the stadium was only 35% full. Can we go lower next week? Will there be another anti-York banner flying above the stadium? What passes for suspense in the land of the red and gold disaster.

The 49ers have to lose, otherwise Grumpy and RTFirefly win the Prognostications derby.

This has definitely been one of the worst seasons in 49er history. I was one of those with great anticipation for the team and coaching staff this year and after the Viking game I thought maybe it was justified. It didn’t take long for me to figure it out. There are so many fingers that can be pointed it’s really hard to put the blame on one person. Jed is to blame for letting this happen but most of this is Baalke’s baby and everyone knows it. Now what I wish for most is for multiple firings. Pretty sad.

  3. bullitNo Gravatar says:

I said status quo and doing nothing is not an option

Jed is responsible because he made the wrong choice last year.
Last year choosing Harbaugh over Baalke should have been the choice.

Now we have a doofus owner, a doofus GM and a doofus head coach.
The team is a raging dumpster fire.

Hopefully this Sunday’s banner might be even worded stronger.

  4. bullitNo Gravatar says:

When Jed said hiring Tomsula was like the Warriors hiring Steve Kerr you know you were being lied to.

The funniest thing is the Barnyard especially Chuckles, 12th man and Berger seconded what Jed said and ran with it revealing what numbskulls they really are. They actually thought Tomsula was Kerr and this team would be in the playoffs.

    Drudge headline today:

    YORK: Future dim…

In fact, not football related but the truth of it is undeniable.

  6. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Holmgren makes it know that he’s ready to help

  7. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

This is a lot like last year. Everybody knew what York was going to do – he made sure of that through his leak machine – but it was still unbelievable when he did it. Unbelievable in the sense of “how can anyone be that dumb?!”

  8. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Not sure why Baalke hasn’t extended Ian Williams who is going to be a FA.
Not one potential FA has been extended.
Instead of wasting his time playing wannabe coach why not identify 3 or 4 key guys and sign them before they hit the open market?

  9. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

They extended Williams in 2013 for three years. He spent the first two on IR, though. This is the first year he’s stayed healthy.

  10. NoFear49erNo Gravatar says:

York requires the proper genuflecting from his subordinates. He’s achieved that with running Harbaugh out of town and surrounding himself with only the brownest of brown-nosers. He’s happy with himself, in hiding.

And the group of folks not good enough for Jed/Trent’s rat ship, Gore, Iupati, Crabtree, Lee, Fangio, Donatell, Roman, etc. are pretty happy about it, too, I’d imagine.

  11. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

    The Harbaugh Scoreboard doesn’t lie.

  12. NoFear49erNo Gravatar says:

Great feature, that Harbaugh Scorecard. Watched Gore and Iupati have big games yesterday, and every time I see Lee stick a punt inside the ten it pisses me off that after all the years of rebuilding we get Jed and Trent tearing it all down for the sake of their little insignificant egos.

  13. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Some think Mangini is doing doing a good job as the DC.
The team under Fangio was consistently a top five defense. They now are ranked 28th.
The offense under Chryst is second to last and have scored the least amount of points in the league.

Under Tomsula both offense and defense suck. Every week it is the same story with Jimmy T lamenting they had great practices but poor execution in the game.
Perhaps when this crappy offense goes against the lousy defense in practice things look really good but it doesn’t translate in real games when the opponent is hostile.

  14. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

Bullit good site to see the structure/length of the current Contracts.

I’d agree about offering an extension to Ian Williams, at the right number, considering his injuries have cut into his availability pretty heavily thus far.

Celek is another likely target for an extension offer as well.
Dawson, Boldin and TJ-E are head-scratchers too.
This Draft Class is loaded with DLine talent so, it’s not imperative to overspend, especially when we know how tight-fisted they tend to be in the Land of York.
    Dorsey is another concern.
He’s about tapped out in terms of longevity, especially at his current Contract level.
Have to think Baalke will grab a Fat Man in the Middle, maybe 2?

Have to get an edge rusher too.
Lots to ponder on the Draft front.
Not sure I’d be in the Market for a QB with Pick 1.
No one blows me away that high but, it would make me think, that Jed wants to make a splash move, just as Jerruh would, when it comes to spraying deodorant on a steaming pile of sh!t.

Looking forward to the Tweeter’s post season synopsis.
Ought to be as comical as his deliberate silence/absence has been all season.

  15. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

I’ve also been poking around the FA options due to hit the street next Spring.
ILBs Brandon Marshall/Danny Trevathan and, DE Derek Wolfe from Denver are potential UFAs.

Given Denvers’ situation with Osweiller, Von Miller and others, they’re in a bit of a pickle to pay everyone.

I like their Defense and see their style of play as being similar to ours.

Plus, they’re all young guys looking for a 2nd Contract.
Plenty of decisions to be made on our own guys as well.

  16. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

We’re sitting in slot 6 in terms of available Cap Space right now too, with a projected $13+Mil available.
Denver is sitting at slot 25 with $3.5Mil available.

Should be interesting, to see what they do with Peyton’s Contract, as it relates to keeping Osweiller as well.

  17. bullitNo Gravatar says:

In 2016 the Niners will have a min of $42 mil in cap space and if they release both Kap and Brooks that moves the cap space to $62 mil

  18. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Ridgeway the DT from Texas is declaring for the draft

IMO he should stay in school as he’s still raw. Probably a 3rd round pick.

  19. NJ49ERNo Gravatar says:

I used the spotrac data for available Cap $$$ Bullit.
    Might have misunderstood their data?
Even better by your numbers 馃榾

  20. bullitNo Gravatar says:

The Sportrac numbers are for the current season.
Jed is just pocketing the extra cap room.
No team can win in the NFL and be competitive if your owner is a tightwad.

Jed would rather invest in minor league soccer in Sacramento than spend money on this team.

  21. bullitNo Gravatar says:

I have always felt that Harbaugh deserved a raise after year 2 and definitely in year 3 for the success of the team. A $1 million a year raise wouldn’t have been out of the ordinary.

Consider the amount of money Baalke squandered on Dockett $3 mil
and Shareece Wright $2.5 mil and it’s chicken feed.

Jed and even some of the posters never really appreciated what Harbaugh accomplished and the achievements of this team.

The Barnyard says Harbaugh inherited a talented roster. This is the same roster that Singletary squeezed 5 wins out of and Tomsula one when he was the interim.

Harbaugh improved the win total by a remarkable 7 wins in his first year. There is no denying that the coaching staff was the
factor that allowed this team to reach the playoffs for the first time in a decade and have a winning record.
Total bullshit to say that any coach would have coached that team into the playoffs. Barnyard is full of clueless dimwits that accept what Jed spoon feeds them.

  22. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

I’d say by now the barnyard has caught up to reality, just like the rest of the dwindling Niner fan base.

  23. NoFear49erNo Gravatar says:

You’d think so, but no. Many seemed surprised by the realization, even now.

  24. bullitNo Gravatar says:

    Egos just canned Chip Kelly

The Barnyard wanted Harbaugh and his offense gone because they thought Kelly had all the answers. Turns out it was a gimmick offense that got figured out by NFL defensive coordinators.

Guess running an offense at breakneck speed doesn’t work when you can’t convert 3rd downs.

  25. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Titans are probably thrilled at this turn of events.

  26. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

I’d take Kelly over Tomsula any day of the week.

  27. NoFear49erNo Gravatar says:

Some folks in Philly thought the spread attack at a no-huddle pace was unbeatable, too. No more, I guess, at least in Philly.

Kelly’s system brought him a lot of success in college. A lot of NFL coaches were interested in what he was doing in Philly. Maybe not so much because they thought it was the answer as much as they just wanted to understand something new that looked like it had promise.

Kelly’s a good coach. He won’t be out of a job long. Many laughed at Carroll, for a while, too.

  28. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

Gotta think there’s an immediate interest in TN NoFear49er.
See how long that takes to materialize.
Mariota was Chip’s coveted acquisition when he made the deal for Bradford I’m sure.
    He blew that call obviously.

    A GM/Personnel guy he ain’t.

  29. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

Marcus Ardel Tafuna Taulauniu Mariota is one heck of name too 馃榾
    Plus, he speaks ‘Chip’.

  30. NoFear49erNo Gravatar says:

He doesn’t tolerate prima donnas well, NJ49er, or disgruntled players whining in the press about play calling and playing time. I wouldn’t either.

  31. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Sounds like Lurie has almost as big a FO mess as the Niners.
