Last Rehearsal For Opening Night

The 49ers appear to have sufficient depth at every position on the offense, but there are some nervous making areas on defense. The drop off from starter to backup at OLB and the safety positions is down right scary.

It could be worse, of course. You could be the Raiders and have no quality players ABOVE the backups.

It’s possible the team will scan the waiver wire at the final cut down day next Friday, looking for a veteran safety and/or OLB, but the team is 30th on the pecking order list, so it’s doubtful any player of quality would slip past all of the 29 teams ahead of them.

By my own count, there are 48 players currently locked in for roster spots, with an additional spot going to eithr Scott Tolzien or Josh Johnson. That leaves 4 roster and 8 practice squad spots available among 41 candidates. Those are better odds than finding one honest politician in the entire country, but not by much.

Around 2:45pm Sunday afternoon, the competition for those precious jobs begins in earnest. Good luck, ye unwashed masses of marginal NFL abilities. May the Turk have mercy on your careers. Just remember, if luck goes against you, there’s a place in the blogosphere waiting for you. You can go from a nobody to an expert in one day flat!

The starters normally play at least the entire first half in this third exhibition game, but I doubt that will be true in this game, at least for Alex Smith. I don’t see him playing much more than one quarter, with recently anointed Number Two QB Colin Kaepernick getting the second quarter action. This will be a rare opportunity for Colin to play against another team’s number one defense, and play with our own number one offense. It will be good to see how he holds up.

Denver has a formidable pass rush duo of Elvis Dumervil and Von Miller. Miller will be going up against Anthony Davis at right tackle, which should give us a hint whether Davis has improved as reported this offseason. So far in the exhibition games, the run blocking, as usual, has been great and the pass blocking, as usual, not so great.

Peyton Manning has yet to take a good, solid, didn’t-see-it-coming backside spearing, so maybe our own Aldon Smith will perform that task in this game. Then again, who wants to be the guy who laid out Manning and put him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life? Manning doesn’t think four or five neck surgeries is a problem, and evidently his doctors agree, but if it’s me, c’mon man. And don’t tell me we won’t hear a gasp heard round the world if Manning gets hit and lays on the ground for even a couple of seconds afterwards.

If Manning has an evil little boy in him, he could lay there until somebody ran over and looked down at him, then give him the old “Ha. Ha. Faked you out!” More likely, though, knowing Manning, he’ll probably milk every roughing the passer penalty he can possibly get out of the refs any time somebody gets within halitosis distance of him.

I have to deal wth broncos all the time here in Reno. The worse part is when they pee on the lawn and leave dead spots. Don’t let those Broncos pee on the field like Hacksaw Reynolds did in Super bowl 16.

  2. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Speaking of wild animals, part of downtown Reno is closed off right now because a mountain lion has been spotted.

  3. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Not again! Just read that there’s
a gunman who’s shot several people outside of the Empire State Building in NYC. WTF is going on? This is happening every week. All the crackpots should take their own lives and not hurt
in most cases innocent strangers going about their own business.

  4. BergerNo Gravatar says:

If they just shot themselves they wouldn’t ge the attention they desire from there going away party. They count on all the news media giving them their 15 minutes of ?.

  5. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Now, if I could only use the correct there, their or they’re.

  6. BergerNo Gravatar says:

They caught the mountain lion. I saw on while hiking about a month ago. We’ve always known we have them around but it is the first one I’ve seen. I just thought it was cool and actually tried to pursue him/her, to no avail.

  7. unca_chuckNo Gravatar says:

Pretty smart, there. Chasing a mountain lion . . . Were you on a horse, or going to take it on on foot?

  8. BergerNo Gravatar says:

A montain lion will not attack me unless I corner it, or if it had cubs. It was running from me so I knew there no cubs.

  9. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

(Mountain)lions, and tigers, and bears! Oh, my!

  10. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Tom Durkin, the track announcer at Saratoga, just used the word “kerfuffle” to describe the commotion at the starting gate. In my entire lifetime of going to the races and watching them on TV, I had never heard kerfuffle used to describe the scene at the track. Kerfuffle is my WOTD.

  11. unca_chuckNo Gravatar says:

Riiiiiiiiiiiight. There are never any unprovoked mountain lion attacks.

  12. unca_chuckNo Gravatar says:

We may shortly hear of a Reno denizen that lost a kerfuffle with a mountain lion.

  13. bullitNo Gravatar says:

It might depend how hungry the mountain lion is and how juicy you look to it. I don’t know squat about this but just my 2 cents.

  14. BergerNo Gravatar says:

It might depend on how hungry I am!

  15. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Berger, I’d get a bucket and pour that mountain lion a 6-Pack of your 9% IPAs.
That ought to slow that big kitty down to a crawl.

  16. AlbertEinstinkleNo Gravatar says:

Al’s state of the nation –

All 49er qbs suck. While the rest of the NFL is drafting guys like Dalton, Locker, Newton, Luck and others, the 49ers are stuck on stupid with Smith, Kaep, Johnson and Tolzien. Harbaugh should either consider keeping two qbs or four…. Dump the confusion or use ’em all liberally. Of course he’ll keep three just to piss me off.
Locker is the real deal. He’s Steve Young. Who will be better between Locker and Newton? The guy who learns to be a pocket passer first. I think it’s Locker. I think Newton will try to be Vick.
Super Bowl picks? Giants / Houston.
FF value picks – QB – Cutler and Schaub.
Inspirational quote of the day on Harbaugh’s board – “Running Qbs: Can’t win with ’em, pass the beer nuts.”

And don’t tell me Steve Young was a running qb when he beat the Chargers. By then he was a pocket passer… and that’s why we won the Super Bowl (that and Carmen Policy bought us the kitchen sink).
Unca Chuck is retarded squared divided by two. And that my friends just blew Chuck’s half wit…. (divided by two).

  17. winderNo Gravatar says:

Years ago my wife and me were visiting at my Dads in Mendocino. They lived out in the boonies, anyway, after dinner me and wifey walked up a hill not very far from the house so we could smoke a joint. There was a lot of brush nearby we heard some noise coming from there and didn’t think too much about it. That’s when I saw it and it saw us, it was about 100ft away I didn’t know wtf to do. I had never seen a mountain lion before, while it was looking at us it growled and then turned around and went back into the bushes. Needless to say we got the $#$# out of there.

  18. unca_chuckNo Gravatar says:

Wow. It took you a year to come up with that? The rock yer living under has gathered a lot of moss.

  19. winderNo Gravatar says:

Al – I think we got lots of potential with our backup QB’s it’s only their 2nd yr in the league. And, we got em for a steal, unlike STL Washington. I think your right abouut Cam he’s gonna be a beast, I have a feeling Lockner’s gonna get creamed this year.

  20. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

Cougars used to be more scared of humans when we still hunted them, like old Charlie Krueger of the 49ers did in his off-seasons, back when he could walk.
They’re getting gradually bolder. I’d never let my kids wander out of sight out in the wild. There’s been some attacks of bicyclists, too, in recent years. That said, they usually still run from people. I personally would not chase one too closely, though.

  21. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Cougars were fun to chase before I was married. We didn’t call them cougars back then, just older women.

  22. unca_chuckNo Gravatar says:

Well, Reno’s filled with cougars. Of the 2-legged variety.

  23. unca_chuckNo Gravatar says:

Ah shit. Ya beat me to it, Bergs.
Then again you’ve always been faster at beating it. . .

  24. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Thomas Clayton waived by Cardinals. Is this the end for our hero? He’s been in the NFL for five years and played in 6 games, with 29 yards rushing in 14 attempts. What a career!

  25. BergerNo Gravatar says:

It is like Thomas Clayton was Spinning Wheels like David Clayton Thomas!

  26. robNo Gravatar says:

ok , so here are some of the cool stuff i see all the time here ! BERGER and WINDER might like this best !

    hawks , eagles , rattlers , raccoons , armadillos , gators , bobcat , foxes , cougars , otters , great horned owls , wild boar , parrots , monkeys , manatees , sharks , sea turtles , dolphin ,

and scariest of all giant FLYING roaches !

  27. RTFireflyNo Gravatar says:

    And squirrels…

  28. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

    King me, bitch!
Rob, you have to go to ESPN and their “Member Services” to change your e-mail. I can’t do that as the commissioner. Your address is still listed for our ESPN league. No wonder you didn’t get the invite. But it said you joined. How? I dunno. But your Rhino’s are ready to rock and roll. It says team Spitblood has also joined over at ESPN. I hope to hell you can come up with a goddamn team name. I have a few suggestions, but I’m told that this is a family site. The word “rape” seems to be popular amongst our senators. Maybe you’d like to give that a try…

  29. BergerNo Gravatar says:

I am not watching the game but from what every reporter is saying it sounds like Russell Wilson will be the starter in Seattle and not Matt Flynn. Wow! I still don’t believe it. Flynn got too much money in FA.

  30. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Nothing like starting a rookie QB.
Russell Wilson has had a good game and Flynn has yet to take the field. The Seahags are going to start Wilson and the big money FA is going to hold a clipboard.
Wilson is listed as 5’9″ so he’s be the shortest QB in the NFL.
He’s similar to Seneca Wallace and they had difficulty winning with him.
    Petey what’s your deal?

  31. winderNo Gravatar says:

Seattles’s offence is not what I am worried about, it’s their defense that is way above average. I have a feeling the two toughest games we play this year will both be with Seattle. I really hate Pete Carroll, I think he’s a turd of the highest order. I imagine Harbaugh thinks that way too.

  32. winderNo Gravatar says:

Hi rob, we got a Shi$load of those bigass flying roaches over here. I wish I could see some of those animals, I really miss seeing Hawks, eagles, and buzzards. We don’t have any squirrels either, but we do have Mongooses everywhere

  33. winderNo Gravatar says:

All a mongoose is is a weasel with sharp teeth

  34. winderNo Gravatar says:

And Centipedes, they live in our walls. God I hate those bastards

  35. winderNo Gravatar says:

Hey dennis, we need one more team to make a go of the Yahoo league. I hope someone from this wonderful blog will sign up, it’s a good league. Out of 8 teams I came in 7th, not one of my better showings. Just ask Del Mar Dennis how to sign up.

  36. bullitNo Gravatar says:

For you Giant’s Baseball fan’s more bad news. Dodgers might have pulled off a huge deal with the Bosox (after the trade deadline?)
They get Adrian Gonzales and Josh Beckett with Carl Crawford thrown in

  37. unca_chuckNo Gravatar says:

That’s good news, bullit. If you’re a Giants fan, anyway. Boston will be dumping about $485 mill in salary and the Dodgers will get one good 1st baseman and a whole lot of shit.
It’s the non-waiver deadline that passed on July 31st. Teams can trade up to Aug 31st.

  38. unca_chuckNo Gravatar says:

Beckett is 5-11, Crawford is out for the season. A-Gon is certainly better than Loney, but they are giving up their #1 pitching prospect de la Rosa, and 3 other highly regarded prospects. Certainly Boston will eat some of the $250 million, but how much?To them it doesn’t matter. Those guys are the albatrosses of the last regime.
This would be a debacle for LA. Do it!

  39. winderNo Gravatar says:

Truk the Dodgers I hope it blows up in their face. And there is a good possibilty that it will. I read that they were after Cliff Lee also, they are sweatin it.

  40. BergerNo Gravatar says:

As far as I remember, trades can be made after 8-31 but those players involved can’t be included on a play-off roster?

  41. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Players have to go through waivers. The Giants are ahead of the Dodgers so the Dodgers made claims on the players the Bosox waived. Nobody else wants the contracts because they total over
$250 mil. Adrian Gonzales is the key because he’s 10x the player Loney is. That gives the Dodgers
a lethal quadruple threat of Ethier, Kemp, Gonzo and Ramirez.

  42. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Now Whisenhunt is just being stupid or getting a lot of pressure from the owner for not making a QB decision. Maybe he’s waiting for one of them to get injured in the last preseason game
to make the decision for him.
In the draft instaed of going for Oline help early they waited until the 4th round. They took Michael Floyd instead of DeCastro
and now their Oline might be worse than the Rams.

  43. BergerNo Gravatar says:

bullit- I’m quite familar with how the trades work bfore and after 7-31. Unca mentioned that teams can trade until 8-31. We know about that. But trades can be made after 8-31, but the involved players can’t be on the play-off roster. At least that is how I think it works after 8-31. I think that is how the Giants picked up Dave Henderson about 20 or 25 years ago.

  44. BergerNo Gravatar says:

It won’t matter if the QB is Kolb or Skelton if they are on the ground looking at the sky.

  45. AlbertEinstinkleNo Gravatar says:

I know you and the squirrel in the tree next door watch Nascar together. I betcha you owe him money …. or a back massage. King that shit, bitch.
Wizzerhurts should have dumped Kolb because of his concussion issue. Now the 10 million bonus they paid him hurts twice because it’s becoming obvious the guy simply can’t play. Double whammy. I’d have dumped Kolb and gone with Skelton and drafted another qb. Kissing Cousins and Skeltons in my closet would have been my lineup – but they don’t listen to me. Keep turnin’ ’em over damn it until a good one surfaces. Or you can be the exact polar opposite of that and be a 49er owner mandating that Alex Smith starts at qb until he gets hurt. “Rocky Bernard – White Courtesy Telephone…. Mr. Bernard – Albert Einstinkle would like to talk to you about creating another bounty system with only one player in mind.”
Unca – Are you still giving away free vicodin with every blog hit?

  46. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Looks like Matt Flynn will be a $20 mil backup QB in Seattle. Gee, who was it that kept ranting about what a can’t miss superstar Flynn would be?

  47. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

I believe that was Warner Bros. They made Errol the valiant and swashbuckling hero that he remains to this very day. Just ask Maid Marian.

  48. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

FF update: Both leagues are full. ESPN has 10, and our Yahoo! is at 8. Thanks to all of you who are participating. I’ll be dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s in the next few days. I’ll send out any and all e-mails with any changes and updates. Please be sure to have your CURRENT e-mail address set-up with either ESPN and/or Yahoo! so you’ll get the info in a timely manner. That means you, Rob!

    Del Mar

Did we sign Peyton Manning yet?

  49. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Just a little heads up: Something tells me I’ll be mentioning Peyton’s name a time or two tomorrow when he goes 16-20 for 186 and a TD vs our first-team defense tomorrow.
Never fear. Alex will counter with a 3 yd out to Crabtree on 3rd and 6. Yahoooooooo!

  50. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

If any of you guys believe in luck, send some my way for the late PK 4 at Del Mar. I could use it. Almost as much as I could use another drink. Speaking of which…

  51. AlbertEinstinkleNo Gravatar says:

Skeebers- Matt Flynn on the bench is better than Alex Smith in the redzone…. or on 3rd down…. and how.

  52. bullitNo Gravatar says:

    Scoreboard. Alex Smith beats
Aints and sends them home KOing them out of playoffs.
    What a feeble weakass rebuttal
    regarding Flynn.
    Now shutup!

  53. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Bullit, honest query. Who throws more TDs and has a higher QBR this season. Peyton or Alex?

  54. robNo Gravatar says:

    alex vs. manning sunday ! i can’t wait !

  55. bullitNo Gravatar says:

If both Peyton and AS remain healthy of course Manning.
AS will have the highest QBR in the NFC West if he stays injury free. That’s the important metric.

  56. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Who has the higher QBR? Mark Sanchez or Alex Smith?

  57. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Only one stat matters, who goes farther. Everything else is just fantasy.
Last year Drew had the stats, Eli had the trophy. Marino was the Del Mar Dennis QB, Joe Montana was the Berger QB. There is zero chance Marino was not a better fantasy QB than Montana. Who was the better QB? Reality is not a fantasy. Alex Smith or Tony Romo? In fantasy I’d take Romo, in real football I’d take Alex any day always.

  58. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Del- Which QB goes farther in the play-offs. I do not care about any other stat. I’ll take Alex Smith.

  59. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Berger, for the one millionth time…The loser of the NFC Championship Game, that would be us, has failed to make the playoffs the following season 6 of the last seven years. My math tells me that equates to a 14% chance of making the playoffs this year.
We’re 10-1 to win the Super Bowl. I’ll book any and all bets. But in return, you have to give me the same 10-1 that we don’t make the playoffs. Now where’s all the hair on your guys’ sack?

  60. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

You guys have heard me rave about my hometown bar, the Antler’s, and their prime rib on Friday. Well, their chili relleno’s and enchilada’s with rice and beans tonight ran a great race in its own right. It’s a photo finish. This judge will have to take all things into consideration and go back again next week to check the results in person.
In football news, Tony Romo is 100x better than Alex Smith. Anyone who thinks otherwise need not bother for the Antler’s food. No prime rib and Mexican food for you!

  61. winderNo Gravatar says:

The Dallas Cowboys and Romo Suck. Just my opinion.

  62. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Del- Don’t root for the 49ers. Losers like you should not root for my 49ers. Let’s face it, Romo is your guy! You are not a 49er fan. You are a gambler, therefore, you are a mercenary. Please go root for another team than my 49ers. You need to root against my 49ers because you hate my QB. I do not not want you as a fellow fan. Please root for another team.

  63. robNo Gravatar says:

is our game getting national coverage ?

  64. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

  65. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Peyton Manning just threw a TD from his hotel room. 7-0 Broncos.

  66. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Alex Smith just told the maid he wants “hospital corners” on his bed next room service. 14-0 Broncos.

  67. bullitNo Gravatar says:

    RIP Neil Armstrong
Everyone alive in 1969 remembers where they were when you stepped onto the Moon.

  68. bullitNo Gravatar says:

You can’t reciprocate the common courtesy and answer my question to you?

  69. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Alex is just a tad over 3 pts. higher in his career. But what’s the correlation between Smith and Sanchez?

  70. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Alex got stuck in the elevator on his way to the team bus.
    17-0 Broncos.

  71. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

Sanchez is terrible. So bad that I would not be surprised if Tebow gets a shot this year. I expect the Jets to continue self-destructing. There another Cowgurls team: lots of talent, no discipline.

  72. 12th manNo Gravatar says:

Bullit, I was in Europe when we landed, we were all huddled around a tiny black and white TV, an amazing moment for the Europeans too. Room went nuts.

Armstrong, a true giant amongst men, RIP.

  73. 12th manNo Gravatar says:

Pete was right about Sanchex, he wasn’t ready and the circus in NY didn’t do him any favors.

  74. barleyfreakNo Gravatar says:

Regarding mountain lions, I have to point out that there have only been 15 attacks on humanoids in CA in the last…120 years. Freaking rare. I startled one a couple months back on my morning run (end of my dirt road, in a river canyon, in the boonies in the foothills of the Sierra). It was just off the side of the road while I was running up the grade. It raced down the ravine, across the creek and up the other side before I could spit twice. I was pretty stoked it ran AWAY from ME.
    Welcome back Weird Al.
    venit vidit insultet.

  75. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Matt Barkley is the Heisman Trophy favorite this year and
also one of names mentioned as the #1 draft pick in 2013.
Fact of the matter is most QBs from U$C don’t do very well in the NFL. Sanchez, Leinart and
Cassell are not doing very well.
Carson Palmer has a losing career record.
My theory is the talent level at U$C boosts the stats of the QB.
Most of the time you have one of the best Olines blocking for you and an array of pro bound receivers and running backs that guarantee offensive success and stats.
I believe Barkley will be overhyped and underachieve when he gets to the NFL like most of his recent U$C QB brethren.

  76. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

“venit vidit insultet.” Good one, Barley!

  77. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

    Terrell Owens released by Seahawks.

  78. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

    T-Oh No!

  79. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Vernon’s little brother Vontae just got traded from Miami to the Colts. He went from bad to worse.

  80. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

I’ve been watching HBO’s “Hard Knocks” and the Miami coaches have been all over Davis in practice for not giving a full effort. They tell him he has all the talent in the world, but he needs to work harder and push himself more. Sounds like a bit of a slacker if you ask me. Maybe he should take up painting like his big brother. BTW, did we trade Vernon Davis yet?

  81. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Going back to Denver reminds me that in 2005 Thomas Herrion OG
collapsed and died in the 49er locker room after playing in a preseason game against the Broncos. This happened a few days
    within 7 years ago.
The Niners need to come out of this game healthy as priority one.
    Thomas Herrion RIP.

  82. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Dennis- Are you rooting for my 49ers today? LOL

  83. BergerNo Gravatar says:

bullit- I am USC fan. When the Patriots drafted Cassel I had not even heard of him. He couldn’t play at USC but he is a starter in the NFL.

  84. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

Vontae needs to have his Singletary moment.

Much as I despise Singletary, his handling of our VD turned him around and may have saved his career. Some people respond to being treated like adults from the start, some need a boot up their backside first. Three guesses which kind Mrs. Davis’s boys are. IIRC the third brother is in jail charged with murder.

  85. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

If Terrell can’t make it at Niners Reject Central, I guess he really is done.
Let me shed a (very) little tear. He was a marvelously gifted athlete and a damned good football player even if he could not keep his mouth shut. “That’s our Dumbass!”

  86. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Moss to start at WR today as Manningham apparently is mourning the loss of a loved one.

  87. barleyfreakNo Gravatar says:

“…Vontae just got traded from Miami to the Colts. He went from bad to worse.”
I disagree. The Colts will be better than Miam. See Luck, Andrew. OK, maybe their D will suck eggs, but they at least have a QB. Miami is a slo-mo train wreck.
It seems like a lifetime ago that TO wore the red & gold. Speaking of slo-mo train wrecks. I’m not a big Carrol fan, but I thought it risk free to give TO a whirl, and probably A+ smart to cut him. Everyone thinks our division will be easy, but SEA will be tough. Ok AZ, STL, not so much.

  88. robNo Gravatar says:

    Grumpy Guy Says:

    “Sanchez is terrible”

lol just remember how many people on these blogs would pretty much done anything to get sanchez the year he was drafted !

  89. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Rob, did you go to ESPN and change your e-mail? Looks like we’re going to do that draft Friday, 8/31 right after the Yahoo! one is finished.
Rob, if you draft Sanchez I’ll take Tebow. Then the two of us will enter a 12-step program. 😀

  90. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

I will say that Sanchez would probably be better if he had a better offensive system and less of a circus surrounding him. Good luck with that in RyanLand though.
Luck is going to lose a lot of 38-31 games this year, I think. His early career may look a lot like Archie Manning. If the Colts can build a team around him, though, he might be the exception to the rule about Number One Overall draft picks being overvalued.

  91. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

You may need 13 steps, or 20, with Tebow, Dennis. He has some raw talent but he needs a whole shitload of coaching. I do not see that happening with the Jets.

  92. winderNo Gravatar says:

dennis – I got so many email accounts that I can’t keep track. Let me know the time for the espn draft.
    Go Niners

  93. AlbertEinstinkleNo Gravatar says:

Alex Smith just broke his leg in warmups …. and smart people rejoice.

  94. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Grump, I dunno what the hell the Jets are doing with Jesus Christ Superstar. They got him bulked up to 255 and playing punt coverages. But you know damn well if Sanchez gets off to a rocky start they’ll be screaming for Tebow from rafters. The Jets have more circus rings than the Ringling Bros.

  95. barleyfreakNo Gravatar says:

Dennis, fyi — the ESPN league draft still says 6pm, Saturday 9/1.

  96. unca_chuckNo Gravatar says:

    What are you doing, stinkfist?

  97. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Barley, I just chanced it to 8:30 PM on Friday, 8/31. You should receive an e-mail. Let me know.
I know one thing. The Broncos kicked our asses this first half. Hmmm. Peyton Manning or Alex Smith? I’ll get back to ya on that one. Right after I stick my face in a fan.

  98. winderNo Gravatar says:

I gotta agree dennis, we are really stinkin up the place. I do hope this is Harbaugh’s way of not showing what we want to do. What bothers me most is our pass rush or should I say our non existant pass rush. That and our offense they look like crap too.

  99. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Time to wake up. Manning said no
    to the Ninerrs. Game over.
Don’t see where you’re going with this.

  100. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

No aspect of the team looked good in the first half. Our run defense looked as bad as I’ve seen in Harbaugh’s time. No pass rush. No push in the running game on offense. One good pass by Alex, other than that we pretty much sucked at everything.

  101. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Bullit, where am I going with this? Towards you and everyone else who said we’re better off with Alex anyway. That’s frigging’ ludicrous.

  102. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Pretty goddamn sad when your top two MVPs are your place kicker and punter.

  103. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Ha ha. Tolzien comes in as the 3rd QB. Thought so. Buh-bye JJ.

  104. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

First mook who says we “won” that game gets to clean Frank’s poopy box next. When it all mattered, we were the shit and the Broncos were doing the scooping.

  105. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Hold on. I never said they were better off with Alex Smith.
You need to slow down there and stop painting with such a broad brush.

  106. BergerNo Gravatar says:

The players were bad, the play calling was bad, the tackling was bad. We were just sloppy. How do we come out with 12 on the field after a TO?

  107. robNo Gravatar says:

imho a 2-0 start is quite likely

  108. BergerNo Gravatar says:

We won! Tell Frank to quit pooping.

  109. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

But you weren’t advocating for the 49ers to sign Peyton. You were OK with whatever management decided. You’re a 49er company man.
I’ll give you another chance. You’re the GM. Who do you want at QB this year, Manning or Smith?

  110. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Why did Tolzien come back in at the end? If JJ was not hurt I think a decision has been made.

  111. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

Rob, if we come out as flat on defense as we were today, a 0-2 start is far MORE likely. We were pretty bad today.

  112. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Hey, Berger! I’m about to call you in just one minute, but I have to ask you the same question. Manning or Smith? Please don’t make a fool out of yourself by taking Alex. Bigger fool that is…

  113. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

News out of Seahag City: Tarvaris Jackson shuffles off to Buffalo.

  114. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

Anyone catch the news that DeCastro’s Season is over in Pitt?
Tough way to start your career.
Having your need taken out by friendly fire.

  115. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

    Knee of course

  116. bullitNo Gravatar says:

What’s your point? I want Drew Brees, Aaaron Rodgers and Tom Brady. Unfortunately they play for other teams.
I asked you about Sanchez and you deflected. So right back atcha

  117. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Alex Smith had a 142.2 QBR for today’s game.

  118. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Ginn sprained his ankle and Harbaugh said he wasn’t sure if he’s be back in 2 weeks.
Ginn does get hurt playing WR
so maybe he should just return kicks going forward.
Looks like we go with Kyle Williams.

  119. 12th manNo Gravatar says:

Pre season, meaningless, not game planning yada, yada, SAME OLD ALEX SMITH. If that makes me a hater Skeebs so be it but that kid can’t throw the ball down field for shit!

  120. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

When last year’s final QB ratings were released, most of you had a wet dream when Alex posted a 90.7 to finish 9th overall. However, when one looks more closely at ESPN’s Total QBR, you won’t find Alex 9th, nor even at 19th. No. Alex was 22nd in Total QBR. He was rated behind such greats as Dalton, Cassel, Orton, M. Moore, Hasselbeck and even C. Palmer.
    Total QBR Basics

A quick primer on the fundamentals of Total Quarterback Rating:

Scoring: 0-100, from low to high. An average QB would be at 50.
Win Probability: All QB plays are scored based on how much they contribute to a win. By determining expected point totals for almost any situation, Total QBR is able to apply points to a quarterback based on every type of play he would be involved in.
Dividing Credit: Total QBR factors in such things as overthrows, underthrows, yards after the catch and more to accurately determine how much a QB contributes to each play.
Clutch Index: How critical a certain play is based on when it happens in a game is factored into the score.
Alex had a QBR of 46.2. Tony Romo? 70.1. Rodgers led everyone with a 85.2.
I’ll say it again. Our season already ended when Manning decided to sign with the Broncos. There will be no more Lombardi Trophies inserted into the glass case at 49ers headquarters as long as Alex Smith is our quarterback.
I’ll ask this question once more. Peyton Manning or Alex Smith? I should be waterboarded and given the Chinese Bamboo Torture for just asking that asinine question.

  121. 12th manNo Gravatar says:

Dennis, Manning is a better QB no question but he is also a huge 90 million dollar health risk. That’s not an even choice.

  122. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

So you’re saying you’d rather have Alex this year over Peyton? I’ll draw you a hot bath with an even hotter fan to go with it. Mook.
Seattle just named their rookie QB, Wilson from Wisconsin, as their starter for Week 1. Very bold move by Pete Carroll. Good luck with that shit. But I must add, I drafted Wilson in two FF leagues to be one of my backups. Momma didn’t raise any dummy. 😀

  123. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

OMFG. I hate using those initials, but Tebow just threw an INT worthy of such. Oh. My. F*&#ing. God was that pass horseshit. The J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets are going to be complete horseshit this year. Thus I’m sticking with my prediction of my favorite QB, Tom Brady, and his Pats going at least 14-2 in the AFC East this year. Tom’s my FF QB this year. Yes. Even over Tony Romo. I’m gonna let Berger draft Romo this year, and I’m going to draft his “favorite” QB, Matt “Stinks on Ice” Ryan. He’ll probably melt before my very eyes and sink so fast that I’ll wish I was on the Titanic instead.
***Spoiler Alert*** The ship sinks at the end.

  124. 12th manNo Gravatar says:

No Dennis I’m saying what I said. If Manning was healthy its a no brainer but its hard to fault management for being cautious when considering 4 neck surgeries. He is a major risk at 90 million.

  125. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

Tebow has a windup like a 3rd base Coach waiving a runner in.
    J-E-S-T Yuk Yuk Yuk
GM Tannenbaum and Staff just made a bigger sideshow for themselves with the Tebow deal.
It does nothing positive for Sanchize.
Just more media scrutiny and another ring,(of the Circus variety)to entertain us.

  126. 12th manNo Gravatar says:

He schooled Alex today and if healthy would school just about anybody but that’s the 64 thousand dollar question, can he stay healthy.

  127. 12th manNo Gravatar says:

    Barnum and Bailey NJ.

  128. BergerNo Gravatar says:

That ESPN QBR sounds like horse dung. Alex was 14-4 with six 4th quarter comebacks for wins. How is that not clutch? I don’t think I’ll bother looking mat QBR, sounds like a gimmick. Or maybe just a fantasy guide?

  129. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

With Rex as your Ringleader there’s never a dull moment out here 12th.

Thank God it’s still the preseason.
