The number one seed in the playoffs went bye-bye this past weekend. At least for now. But it brings back into focus the only goal that seemed reasonable when the season started – making the playoffs at all.
The 49ers are practically a shoo in to accomplish that. One more win and one more loss by the Rams and the Niners are in. You could throw some “tie” scenarios in there, but that seems too corny to waste time on. As does bringing up how the Bears might factor in.
Since the Rams play the Seahawks this coming Sunday, the Niners can’t help but be helped, one way or the other. Unless the 49ers lose and the Seahawks lose, making the following week the same scenario as this week. Basically, if either the Seahawks or 49ers win their final four games, that team wins the NFC West.
At any rate, here we are with only four games left to the 2019 season and the 49ers currently have as good a chance as any team in the NFC of going to the Super Bowl, from a top seed position or a wild card one. Quite a turn around from a 4-12 season last year.
Next up is New Orleans, the last leg of playing three straight games against division leaders. The Saints have looked a bit wobbly of late, so beating them is a good possibility. If not this Sunday, then they might get another crack in the playoffs. The way things look in the NFC right now, the Niners will have to play teams in the playoffs they’ve just finished playing already in the last month of the season – Seattle, Green Bay, and/or the Saints.
And when it’s all said and done, we’ll most likely be bitching and moaning all winter long about what could have been if … The price of having a contender – four months of fun, followed by six months of denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and finally acceptance. Just in time for a new season!
It is true that if we don’t get the trophy I will be disappointed. But, that will be it. So far the Niners have shown they can play with anyone. Our two losses have come by last minute/overtime field goals in games that we could have possibly won. It has been a cinderella year to me and what a surprise and fun it’s been. If we lose all the marbles it will probably be because of turnovers/penalties which we seem to have many. Jimmy is an exciting QB but ball control is not one of his strong suits. But, I think in that he is not totally to blame since he is getting hammered quite a lot and it is a team effort so the whole team needs to clean it up some especially from here on out.
“It is true that if we don’t get the trophy I will be disappointed. But, that will be it.”
Stage 1: Denial.

Good stuff for a great Sunday.
Skeebs- We will just have to see. If we get beat on our own I think what i said is true. If we lose because turnovers/penalties/f-up coaching decisions then yeah I will vent some.
Stage 2: Anger
Stage 0: Tequila.
Lol
Am still confused.
Tequila as a numbing fluid. Or tequila as a pre Mardi Gras celebration.
Works either way…

Per Barrows the Aints are hurting especially at LB
“From the Saints … starting linebackers Kiko Alonso (thigh) and A.J. Klein (knee) have been ruled out for Sunday’s game.
So have: RB Zach Line (knee), G Andrus Peat (forearm) and TE Jason Vander Laan (head)”

Wonder how this impacts Shanahan’s game plan?
For Niners Taart and Julian Taylor has been ruled out but Staley, Breida and Ford will be available. Shanahan says Sherman is on track to play.
Jonnydel on Ravens game,

Inactives for game
WR Marquise Goodwin
QB C.J. Beathard
S Jaquiski Tartt
WR Dante Pettis
RB Jeff Wilson
DT Jullian Taylor
TE Levine Toilolo
Niners are going with 8 OL and only 4 WRs and 3 RBs
Down 20-7 start of 2nd quarter.
Niner D missing Taart as replacement Marcel Harris is getting torched helped by kick returns.
Uphill battle.
Jimmy just throws 75 yard bomb to Sanders. Now 20-14. Yowza!!!
If the defense ever shows up today, they might win.
Forty Phuckin Niners!!!!
VICTORY!!!!
That was must see entertainment!!!
What a game!!! Jimmy to Kittle at the end.
Game of the year
Kittle!!
Shanny schooled Payton
Amazing. What an emotional rollercoaster.
One down note is that Richburg might be hurt for an extended period.
Garland filled in admirably and both Person and Brunskill can also play center.
Penalty for Cook hit was worthit
IOL will be high on the Draft list next year
Need to see Rams beat Seahags tonight
A Niner TE wearing #85 is the Saints Kryptonite.

Top seed again. Control own destiny if they win out.
That was one of the most egregious face mask penalties that I’ve seen because the offender didn’t let go for 15 yards and ended up trying to pull Kittle down by the face mask. Seems like a big fine is also in order say $25K.
Don’t overlook the dirty birds next week.
Post game emotion in the locker room.

Nice to have a real team once again. 49er football is back.
I’m starting to wonder if there’s any buyers’ remorse relative to Dee Ford.
Guy hasn’t been very productive in terms of games played.
Personally…I thought a 2nd was way too high.
Let’s hope he finds some time to turn in some productive contributions down the stretch.
Sherman is hurting, Tartt as well.
Bosa has been getting cut quite a bit of late.
One bad play is all it takes.
Yes NJ, good observation. Hopefully offseason rest will get Dee back to 100%. No Gurley man needed. AA and Hospital Ward got healthy for us.
Phenomenal game, just saw it on gamepass. Thanks for the memories Bullit, only missing clip where Donte Whitner stuck the tackle on their RB at the 2 yard line that set a great tempo for the game.
Seems Bosa has outshined others on DL now. Still worry about all the hits Jimmy is taking. #1 seed is ours, just ATL, LAR, and SEA.
One thing learned this season is a healthy WR unit needed to offset the OL. Hope Richburg gets back so C depth is not another test for us.
Disappointed in TMoore tho. Woods needs to keep him from turning out like another Colbert.

I’ve seen the suggestion that if this is a lost season for Ford that Lynch would consider releasing him and using that money for a contract for Armstead. That talk is for the offseason and there will plenty of time to speculate.
Let’s hope that they give Ford a couple of weeks off and he’ll be a force in the playoffs.
BKtom
The guy who replaced Taart is Marcel Harris and he was the guy that got torched by Cook for the first TD and possibly the second because of the angles he took.
Taart should be back for last game against Seahags.
Bullit it’s become pretty apparent that AA will be a priority retention target or, a 5-star Comp pick consolation.
Being the Draft weenie I am, I hate dealing Picks and not getting production. Our Draft capital for next year is damn near gone.
Of course, it’s never over until it’s over so….Let’s see what happens.
These final few weeks are going to be a roller coaster.
One thing we don’t want is to play in NOLA again.
Another expensive FA lost for us too – Kwon.
4yrs/$54Mil – $32Mil guaranteed
‘Alexander, PFF’s 43rd-rated linebacker, was lost with a torn pectoral in game eight. It’s the second straight year he’s played half a season or less’.
Yeh it’s a tough game and all but, these Contracts can kill.
And, reports were out there of our desire to get OBJ.
What happens in the off season now?
He could be on the move again from the sounds of it.
Head case? Indeed.
Productive in a Shanny Offense? More than curious.
What’s left for us to offer? Cupboard about bare.
New post is up.
