The on-again off-again 49ers have a home game this Sunday. That usually means they’re on. The game is against the powerhouse Bengals, though, so maybe they’ll be off. However, Bengals’ QB Andy Dalton is injured and won’t play, so maybe they’ll be back on. At least the defense, anyway. It’s hard to tell if the offense is ever on or off since it’s always just plain bad.
One thing we know for certain: nobody really gives a shit! A win doesn’t salvage anything, and a loss is just one more for the road.
Well, Jed York and Trent Baalke and Jim Tomsula care. But they don’t count. They’re delusional idiots, spending all their time these days trying to decide on the best spin they can put out to explain, essentially, their own ineptitude.
Remember when the 49ers were a great team with great coaches and lots of fans who were complaining that the offense wasn’t averaging 27 points a game instead of 24? What are we averaging now? 14? 15?
When people talk about Tomsula as a Head Coach, they never talk about his schemes, or his offensive and defensive philosophies, or his game plans. No, the only thing anybody knows about him as a coach is him telling the players before the final game of the 2010 season to “go out and have fun.” And again before Blaine Gabbert headed out for overtime against the Bears: “have fun out there.”
That’s it. The sum and substance, whole enchilada, kit-and-kaboodle, entirety of Jim Tomsula, Head Coach.
And both York and Baalke swallowed that resume whole and decided he’d be a great head coach. Because that’s all they thought coaches needed to do. None of this Jim Harbaugh preparation, intensity, and obsession. No, just a butt patting dude was all the team needed.
How colossally stupid are these two franchise-destroying clowns?! It boggles the mind.
The best result for 49er fans would be for the team to lose its final three games. This would cause the most embarrassment to York and Baalke and ensure the most entertainment watching them try to pretend they are fixing things this coming offseason. But there won’t be many fans giving them the benefit of the doubt now, like there were last year.
We know York and Baalke would dearly love to not have to fire Tomsula and his staff after the season. A de facto admission that they screwed up in hiring him. But if they don’t, 2016 will almost certainly be one long howl of “When will they fire this idiot?!”
Bite the bullet at the end of the season, or eat shit all of next season, too. Choices, choices.
