The first week of Free Agency is in the books and lots of players now have new addresses for the 2021 season. The 49ers essentially spent the week re-signing their own free agents instead of bringing in new guys. The only outsiders signed were center Alex Mack, edge rusher Samson Ebukam, and safety Tavon Wilson. Not real exciting or wowzer fan appeal, but a solid and effective week nonetheless.
Mack is 35, but he should have a couple years left to stabilize a position that was a turnstile of marginal talents last year. The whole team was a bit of a turnstile last year, but surely that won’t happen two years in a row. Right, fellas! (voice in the back, ha ha ha ha).
The one important player the 49ers have not yet re-signed is NB K’Waun Williams. We all assumed he would follow Robert Saleh to the Jets, but the first week went by and nothing happened. In fact, Williams’ name didn’t surface at all anywhere, even on PFT’s Top 100 FA list, which probably says much about PFT’s knowledge of anything happening west of the Appalachians (hint: squattola) and there are those who think their knowledge of what’s east of said mountain range is a bit thin, also.
Williams finally surfaced Monday in a rumor that he was visiting the Chiefs. This probably means he’s looking for too much money, but we’ll no doubt soon find out.
We should see a whole lot more FA signings this coming week, full of players that provoke fan reactions like “Never heard of this guy.” Ebukam and Wilson fall into this category, actually. Some of them will surprise us and some of them won’t make it through training camp.
At any rate, 2021 is here and it has a very good chance of being a whole lot better than 2020. Except maybe for Deshaun Watson, whose reputation went from good guy/hot commodity to WTF/weirdo in one record freefall week.
K’Waun Williams value went down because he was on injured list last season for 8 games which brought his value down.
Lot’s of guys still unsigned including Dick Sherman.
It was reported this morning that Russell Wilson wants the Seahags to sign Antonio Brown.
bullit- Maybe some of last years injuries just might benefit us this year. i would like to see K’Waun come back. Brown doesn’t scare me as much as Metcalf does. Seattle needs more headcases as far as I’m concerned.
One of the aforementioned “never heard of him” signings: “The 49ers announced Tuesday they signed defensive lineman Zach Kerr to a one-year deal.”
Niners lose Hyder who signed a 3 year deal with Seahags.
They then sign Jordan Willis to a 1 year deal.
And Mullen’s elbow must be on the mend, they hung onto him.
Good news:
“49ers CB K’Waun Williams, who recently visited the Chiefs, is expected to sign with the 49ers.”
Niners did sign K’Waun. Good News.
CJ is now on the Jaguars
Aldon Smith released by Cowboys. Next stop, probably Seattle.
Beathard to Jags? The prediction was Alex Smith to Jags because of Urban Meyer and Baalke.
I still think Alex Smith might be a good backup QB and a willing mentor to Jimmy and any young QB on the roster.
Flacco snubs the Niners to go to the Egos.
“ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports the 49ers are “up to something” at quarterback, which involves trading for Jags QB Gardner Minshew.”
I’m good with Minshew or Darnold.
Be nice if we could incorporate Dee or McGlinchey in the package too.
Should be fun…
Might hinge on the Draft order too.
JAX/NYJ will dictate the QB sequence.
If Mac is on our radar, a deal for either Minshew or Darnold could be influenced on Day 1 process.
Seems like there are some positions being established.
Sounds to me like Fowler is just blowing smoke. Slow day.
Jets signed RB Tevin Coleman, formerly of the 49ers, to a one-year contract.
The deal is worth up to $2 million. It’s a terrific landing spot for Coleman, who knows the new coaching staff after spending the past couple years in San Francisco with new coach Robert Saleh and OC Mike LaFleur. The Jets don’t have a whole lot of backfield talent, and Coleman should get a chance to lead this group that also includes 2020 draft pick La’Mical Perine, Ty Johnson, and Josh Adams. Coleman’s biggest hurdle has been staying healthy. In his prime, he was one of the more dynamic speed backs with the Falcons.
How would it look to have Jimmy facing Bill twice a season as a NYJ?
IF Atlanta gets their target QB could Matty be dealt to Shanny to fill the vacancy?
Oh the possibilities….
“Dolphins trading No. 3 overall pick to the San Francisco 49ers for the No. 12 pick, a 2022 third-round pick (SF’s comp pick for Robert Saleh hiring) and first-round picks in 2022 and 2023.”
Buh bye Jimmy

Can we get Pick 15 from Bill for Jimmy?
Is this a smokescreen?
https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/49ers/nfl-rumors-49ers-not-trading-jimmy-garoppolo-despite-getting-no3-pick
If my understanding is correct i think the 2022 1st rd pick is from the Eagles. Also, good chance we keep Jimmy one more year because of the learning curve with Shanny’s system. Or we trade jimmy for a pick and throw Rosen out their in the beginning.
Ok. I am wrong about that. we did give up two future #1 picks. This will definitely be the definitive move for our FO. I truly hope it works.
Crazy as it sounds , is there a link between this trade and Aaron Rodgers becoming a free agent next season?
Green Bay is going to let him walk by their recent actions.
I’m sure Shanny’s laughing at Atlanta right now too.
This move to 3 blows up their plan.
Time to put heat on Bill and what he’s willing to give up for Jimmy.
Winder don’t forget about Matty Ice.
He’s plug and play with Shanny as Jimmy is with Bill.
Lynch needs to take offers for Jimmy.
At least pretend.
Or, Bill will likely select a QB at 15, (Mac) if he gets there?
How does Lynch “pretend” to trade Jimmy whenit is well known he has a no trade clause?
Jimmy can approve his own destination Bullit.
No Trade clause gives him control of the process.
Bill v Caserio in Houston?
Pat’s connected as is Flores in Miami, tho Tua is already there.
Miami made the deal Caserio couldn’t get done.
Thanks in large part to Easterby and the massage parlor panic.
The whole thing in Houston has turned into a 3-Ring circus.
Pretty clear that Deshaun is damaged goods now.
Gotta think the circus in Houston forced the FO to rethink their strategy for the long term QB solution.
I would have guessed if Jimmy was to go somewhere it would be the Bears.
Good fit Winder but…Bears don’t have much to offer.
Here’s the article I wanted to see –
Test interest and value.
https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/03/26/49ers-pivot-to-posturing-for-a-jimmy-garoppolo-trade/
Flying under the radar today DL Givens was charged with 2nd degree assault for an incident that happened in Baltimore in Feb.
All I can say is another knucklehead.
And he could be facing 10yrs if convicted Bullit.
Down time and money = recipe for stupidity.
NJ- I think we would take a next years 1st.
Got some holes to fill Winder.
Bill should at least offer back a 2 for Jimmy.
Would like to see Lynch gauge interest elsewhere though.
Dolphins GM Chris Grier is playing the process like a Master negotiator.
He literally stole the leverage Houston had with Deshaun and cashed in.
It all started last year with the Tunsil deal and kept getting better.
Kudos to Miami.
This deal makes or breaks Lynch once he turns in the selection card next month.
I’m going to bet on Mac or Lance.
Grier is adding Draft picks in Miami while accusers are lining up in Houston.
That whole Easterby/Caserio/ownership triangle in Houston is toxic.
I think we take Fields.
“WR Mohamed Sanu is signing with the 49ers on a one-year deal.”
17 game season next year.
Is it significant that Shanahan and Lynch will be at the second Alabama
Pro Day tomorrow rather than at the Ohio St Pro day to see Fields?
Or is this all smoke and mirrors?
There is also a report Wilson wants to be a Niner and is tanking his personal interviews with the Jest to steer the pick to where he wants to go.
There is also a report that the Niners will sign Safety Tony Jefferson who last played for the Ravens before he was hurt. He played at a very high level. That gives the Niners a over abundance of safeties and there is the thought that the Base Defense might be a “nickel” 4-2-5
under new D coordinator Demeco Ryans.
New post is up.
