Divisional Round

Defense trumped offense in the NFC Divisional round, while offense stomped defense in the AFC.

It’s a strange year. The Jaguars were known for their defense during the season, but gave up 44 points to the 49ers in the next to last game of the regular season, then coughed up 42 to the Steelers on Sunday. This is not how I remember great defenses performing.

We’re going to have either Case Keenum or Nick Foles playing QB in the Super Bowl. Could the Football Gods have possibly handed the Patriots an easier path to another Lombardi? Depressing.

It was enjoyable watching the Steelers trip over their own arrogance yet again. The failed 4th and inches play call has got to be one of the dumbest plays in history. You’ve got a 6 foot 4 inch, 240 pound QB who could gain six inches on a sneak just about anytime he tried, but you call a pitch to the RB instead. Everyone in the world was conceding the sneak at that moment, but the Steelers have demonstrated all year a disturbing disconnect, as though nobody is in charge when it really matters. Maybe it’s time Mike Tomlin stepped aside.

The only advice I can give to the four remaining teams is: If you have a guy named Williams on your team, make sure he’s not on the field in the fourth quarter. The Saints’ Marcus Williams joined the 49ers’ Kyle Williams as big time playoff goats Sunday. Making Monday morning the worst day either one of them will ever experience waking up and not being able to make themselves go away.

Kyle Williams, BTW, went on to get a Super Bowl ring with the Denver Broncos after the 2015 season. At the time of the victory, he was recuperating from a torn Achilles tendon and did not play in the game. Hidden moments of history.

“Titans and head coach Mike Mularkey mutually agreed to part ways this morning.”

    The old mutual parting ruse.

I hope those football Gods stick it to NE. I think it would be an entertaining SB without them.

“Ken Norton Jr. is leaving 49ers after less than a week to accept defensive coordinator position with Seahawks.”

  4. WinderNo Gravatar says:

Can’t blame him for that. Way better title and money.

Titans offered Mularkey an unworkable deal and Mularkey mutually agreed it was an unworkable deal.
Thanks for the winning record and a taste of the post-season after a lengthy drought, coach, and FU, too. Sounds a lot like the Yorks.

Norton, “glad to be home again.” “see ya.”
Hope your defenses are better in Seattle than Oakland.

I heard all the kneeler teams are toast. Shocking! and well deserved.

Can’t say today’s games hold much interest for me. Or the SB.

I feel the same way. Pretty bad year for the NFL overall.

    Go Paraag.

Okay, show of hands, who thought it would be JAX v MIN in the SB?
Yeah, youse guys with your hands in your pockets and every one of the zebras.

Been a long time since the founders were “chased” from Boston to Philadelphia and now it’s Goodell chasing fan/viewer numbers from the same markets.

Uninteresting idiocy is what he’s trading in these days if not outright disrespect and insult. Modern day Cornwallis, never got the ridicule/blame he deserved either.

Had my hopes on MN being the first host to field their team NoFear.
No love whatsoever for Philly Fans in general.
They’ll be no living with’em if Brady and Belichick don’t derail them.

Thought more of the Vike’s Defense than they showed today.
In hindsight, going back to the whiff made on Diggs to get them to Philly, I gotta wonder if the plan was to derail NOLA all along?
    Either way, Philly moves on.
I’ll listen to several of their faithful loudmouths for another 2 weeks, hoping in the end, they’ll DIE Eagles, DIE.

As that JAX running game got started today, I thought immediately of how much they were missing Vince Wilfork in the middle of their DLine.
Kudos to them for finding the tenacity to finally get Yeldon and Fournette under control.
Once they put it on Bortles to win it, he wilted.
Brady is Brady but, I think the Pats are suspect on D, and they don’t seem to have enough of a ground game themselves to scare anyone.
Got a little too tricky today I thought, though it saved their bacon in the end.
Either way, I’ll be pulling for the AFC in this one.

I actually thought the vikes would beat Philly. But I really didn’t think the Jags would come out on top even thought that is what I hoped. NJ- since I don’t have to live with Eagle fans I truly hope they hammer NE. I am so sick of Brady and Belichick. I just wish the game was like it used to be when QB’s didn’t have the protections they have now. I also think they have to find a way to real in the Refs, they are making the game a joke.

  13. NJ49ERNo Gravatar says:

Only because Brady was a 9er fan Winder.
    Who cares?
Pats have been there so often it just doesn’t matter except to ruin it for Philly now 😀
