Dancing With The Stars

This year’s NFC final four is a true national tournament. We’ve got the Giants representing the East, Green Bay the North, New Orleans the South, and San Francisco the West. Groovy. A perfect symmetry.

And late Saturday afternoon, the 49er season will either be abruptly over with or gloriously extended yet another week. It’s Door #1 or Door #2 time. Agony or ecstasy. Fame or ignominy. Shit or lift your cheeks from off the potty. Do or die.

The 1981 playoff victory over Dallas is now stamped into history as The Catch game. But if Eric Wright doesn’t make that horsecollar tackle on Drew Pearson, that game would be known instead as The Six Turnover Choke Job. Joe Montana threw 3 interceptions and might have been the goat, not the hero. Who knows how his career, or the legacy of the Niners, would have turned out after that?

I think it’s safe to say that if Alex Smith throws 3 interceptions Saturday, even if the team wins, the answer for him would be Not Good.

Montana wasn’t carrying anybody’s legacy on his back that day, like Smith and the current team are. In fact, he and the team were fighting a legacy, a legacy of choking the big game, especially against Dallas, who ended 49er hopes in 1970, 1971, and 1972. Three straight years kicked out of the playoffs by Dallas, the last one particularly heartbreaking because the team blew a 28-13 4th quarter lead. If they would have won even one of those years, John Brodie would probably be in the HOF, where he belongs. But he is not. They don’t hold any Legends Night galas for him and that team, either, like they did this past week for that 1981-90 team.

The Saints have their own issues in this game, too. A loss Saturday would continue the goose egg they have when it comes to playoff road games and games outdoors on the grass. It would make them a gimmick team. A dome team. An impure specimen of he-manless football. Drew Brees would be viewed as nice stats, guy, but you ain’t no Eli Manning.

Manning will be up in Green Bay Sunday, trying to replicate his out of the blue wildcard run to Super Bowl glory in 2007. His team is finally healthy, especially his defense, and the Packers are vulnerable, despite their gaudy regular season record. A Giants win and a Niners win would bring the NFC Championship game right back to Candlestick next week.

The AFC games are not nearly so attractive. Denver vs New England is more about the Tim Tebow phenomenon than football. And the Ravens vs Texans game will be a tedious who really cares game. Probably a defensive stand off. Probably pretty boring. No big names or game dramas to titillate the viewing populace.

We could see some epic games this weekend in the NFC, though. If the Niners win the opener, we can all sit back and enjoy the other three games. If they don’t, the remaining three games will be viewed with a heavy heart. Very heavy. Dark, kick the dog and bark at the kids surly, mean and nasty gloom. Dead. Throw the dirt on me. Life is meaningless. I’ll never be happy again. I hate God. Why did You do this to me? Sigh. Shit. Okay, it’s over. Piss. It was a hellava year, though, wasn’t it?

Take pity on me, 49ers. WIN THIS GAME!!!!!

Actually you’re in no position to demand or dictate anything here.
You just posted you weren’t here to make friends. The purpose of this blog is to discuss 49er football and share opinions.
The one thing that everyone else has and you don’t is the respect of fellow posters and creditbility.
You choose to go against the grain
by being a punk and dismissing the truth. In every disussion that you lose (almost always) you start stretching the truth and when pinned you always resort to
    what differenec does it make?
How does this work? You swear and deny being Spitblood but when it benefits you suddenly you refer back to old posts on other blogs when you were Spitblood which paints you as a big fat liar and first class ahole.
Perhaps you are too stupid of a punk to realize that an apology from a liar is just that, a lie.
You are a joke and a fool that just can’t be taken seriously.

  2. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Good job. What the fanboy trolls like Spit and V always conveniently forget is football is a team game. For all of the Montana/Clark heroics in that chanpionship game it would’ve meant nothing if Weight, Pillars and Stuckey hadn’t done their thing.
If Dan Bunz doesn’t make that solo tackle on third down on that goal line stand would Montana still be the MVP of the game.
QBs get all the credit but they don’t catch their own passes.
    Total team effort wins games.

Niners are one of the top stories on all the local news channels.
What used to be routine for 20 years is now a big deal because it’s been 10 long years. I am so fired up!!!

Huey Lewis and the News will perform the National Anthem just like old times. The video is for a Giants home opener but location is the Stick. WE HAVE COME ROARING BACK!!! Go Niners!!!

  4. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Looks like I missed out on a good old fashoined but kicking. Stinkblood got his butt kicked by Unca. When lookng at Whitehurst what always comes to mind is he should be playing Jesus in a play somewhere.

  5. AlbertEinstinkleNo Gravatar says:

Yeah, Berger, you missed out. He really slapped me around good. Lmao. I was hoping you’d join in earlier so it could be like old times.
Starting to get fired up about the Niner game. One thing we can all agree on is that our defense is fun to watch, the pass rush is key, and like Bill Romanowski just said, “It’s a stretcher game.” We need to knock some dudes out. I think Graham could be soft. You ain’t knockin’ Sproles out.

  6. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Everyone slaps you around and you just stand there and bleed.
The fact is we are now at 13-3 and 3 wins from a Super Bowl Victory and you wish bad things on the team so you can brag and rub people’s noses in it.
There is no way in any shape or form that you support the Niners
or can claim to be one.
Nobody can be that stupid and be a Niner fan.
Nobody waits 10 years and then points out the flaws on the team except a whining moron hater.
    No gray areas here.

  7. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Del’s team, the Cowboys, just hired a decent OC in Bill Callahan.

  8. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Jeff Fisher will be Rams new coach.

  9. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Mr Know it all said Fisher said it was a slam sunks for the Colts.
Mr Know it all is never wrong.
Colts or Rams hell he predicted
a four legged animal and to him that’s close enough. What a putz.

  10. AlbertEinstinkleNo Gravatar says:

So I was wrong. I thought Fisher would go to the Colts. At least I make predictions and stand for something. You should try it sometime, Bullit.

  11. AlbertEinstinkleNo Gravatar says:

    Saints, Patriots, Giants, Ravens

  12. unca chuckNo Gravatar says:

Skeebs do you post on bleacherreport as nineroutsider?

Here’s the latest injury news from NO:

The Saints leave for San Francisco Thursday night, which means Thursday’s practice was really a Friday practice if this was a normal NFL week.

And that means Lance Moore (hamstring) didn’t practice all week long, according to Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Unless Houdini makes him appear, the slot receiver looks unlikely to face the 49ers despite some optimism early in the week. Linebacker Jonathan Vilma (knee) also didn’t practice Thursday, but he did earlier in the week and seems almost certain to play.

Safety Roman Harper (ankle) returned to practice in a limited fashion, which is a great sign he will play at less than 100% after he missed practice on Thursday. Harper is a huge part of the Saints’ run defense and blitz packages, both of which will be key against the 49ers on Saturday.

  13. unca chuckNo Gravatar says:

But you don’t admit when yer wrong, skippy.

  14. AlbertEinstinkleNo Gravatar says:

Charles. God, you’re stupid. 12:23. I keep handin’ you your ass….

  15. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Chuck, I not only do not post as “nineroutsider” on bleacher report, I never even go to that site. Is this bogus poster giving me a bad name?

  16. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

This time tomorrow we’ll either be cheering or crying.

  17. BergerNo Gravatar says:

I won’t guarantee a victory, but I am confident we will win.

  18. BergerNo Gravatar says:

We need our receivers to have viscid hands.

  19. AlbertEinstinkleNo Gravatar says:

I’ll guarantee a loss …. and a buzz. Damn, I need my mind clear to channel all that Alex Smith hate. Coffee…. I need coffee.

  20. unca chuckNo Gravatar says:

Yeah, he sounded a little whiny Skeebs. i didn’t think it was you.
I’m talking about yesterday, numbnutz. You said you’d apologize, and you haven’t.

  21. bullitNo Gravatar says:

A combination of Saint’s punts and turnovers equalling 8 and the Niners win 26-24.
Game might be chippy like the Seattle game. Niners have to keep their cool and avoid the stupid 15 yd personal fouls. If you are going to get flagged for a late hit, make it count and get your money’s worth.

  22. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Why is it when you’re wrong you sound like a 10 year old.
This so what brat behavior makes you look even more foolish as you often have egg on your face and must enjoy eating crow.

  23. AlbertEinstinkleNo Gravatar says:

Yesterday, now two days ago, you gave us your predictions on Sept 11 which was the first game of the regular season. Coward. You need to go back and look at your own predictions before the preseason started. We both know you weren’t expecting much, and as everyone else got more optimistic, you started to change your tune as well. Why would I apologize to you for being one to the guys who helped you see the light before the preseason began?

  24. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

It’s great to see all of us fans focused on this glorious day, arm in arm, brothers united in 49er love. lol.

  25. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

I wonder if Mike Singletary will be watching today, murmuring to himself, “Boy, good coaching sure makes a difference!”

  26. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Only the dumbest of the sumb would ever guarantee something they have absolutely no control over.
Translation, being mostly wrong with everything it’s become second nature when you have no self esteem or moral core. The fool just laughs this off like everything else.
    That’s what hater trolls do.

  27. AlbertEinstinkleNo Gravatar says:

I bet Singletary has a really tough time watching the game with his family. I wouldn’t be surprised if Singletary didn’t watch at all. He’s in denial…. like Unca. Lol. Let’s go Niners’ DE-Fense! Hold ’em to two field goals so we have a chance. Maybe Frank will bust one! Lol.

  28. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Singleneuron is going to watch this game. Of course he will. He is still getting 3 or 4 mil from us, minus his Minn salary. But that is not the main reason why.
I’m sure he is telling everybody he built this team and this is the vision he had for us.
This team is heavy on running the ball, Alex is proving to be a good QB, just like he told us before the 2010 season, and we have a really good defense.
The part he’ll forget is this running game has a clue instead of just running behind Iupati, he benched Alex Smith and we run a very aggressive style of defense as compared to his prevent style shell coverage.

  29. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Seifert is going to be the honorary captain for this game. Good stuff. Great guy.

  30. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Should be an event if all the Niner greats are there too to root this team on.
Remember we don’t lose when Huey Lewis and the News or Jeffery Osborne sings the National Anthem.

  31. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Your Nevada Reno Wolfpack is coming to the Bay Area to play Cal on 9/01 Wonder if the Niner home opener might be on that weekend giving you a good road trip.
This will be the opening of the renovated Memorial Stadium

  32. barleyfreakNo Gravatar says:

Bullit — that was the prediction I made the other day on Chuck’s blog. Here the weekend’s scores:
Niners, 26-24. Last minute field goal by Akers and a frantic effort to hold NO out of FG range. A nail biter, keep the BP medicine handy.
31-16, Patriots. A close game until late 3rd quarter when The Genuflector throws a pick six and the air goes out of Denver’s Holy Balloon.
Ravens, 27-13. Defense, Rice, AJ. AJ? Bubye Texans.
34-28, Giants. It was less than one month ago that the Giants got smacked around by WASH. Why would I think this team capable of beating GB, in GB? Doesn’t matter. They’re just dumb enough to believe in themselves. They will sack Rodgers and score through the air.

  33. BergerNo Gravatar says:

bullit- Nevada’s Wolfie got mascot of the year!

  34. AlbertEinstinkleNo Gravatar says:

The 49ers’ defense needs to lay some guys out. I doubt we get to Brees much, but when Brees dumps the ball off, we need to punish whomever catches it. To me, the defensive intensity will tell me early on if the 49ers will win or lose. Bill Romanowski said it best – “It’s a stretcher game.” Know stretchers, know victory… no stretchers, Alex Smith sucks. Lol.

  35. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Look around, but you got kicked out of the foxhole a long time ago.
When you say we I’m thinking you are referring to the Aints.

  36. bullitNo Gravatar says:

One thing that hasn’t been mentioned about playing outdoors as opposed to a dome is the sun in your eyes.
In the sterile dome environment this is a non factor.
About an hour before kickoff. Go Niners!!!

  37. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

After 8 years, Shawntae Spencer finally makes the playoffs and he’s inactive. Cruel.

  38. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Fox just showed the pregame speeches. Willis was firing up the team with words from the heart.
Brees was leading the team with
    a rehearsed attempt at rap.
It’s good to be a 49er and playing in January in a game that matters.

  39. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Unbelievable! Smith rules! Vernon for President!

  40. bigtimNo Gravatar says:

holy crap that was one of the greatest games I have ever watched VD and the Smith’s all of em just rocked

  41. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Wow!!! That was a top five 49er finish of all time. VICTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  42. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Wonder when Albert will show up for his gigantic black bird feast.

  43. BergerNo Gravatar says:

    Please resign Alex Smith.

  44. AlbertEinstinkleNo Gravatar says:

Alex Smith answered not once, but twice down by whatever. He went the length of the field scoring touchdowns with under four minutes to play – something I never thought Smith could do. Great game by Alex, now let’s sign Matt Flynn. Bring on the Packers –

    Packers 80
    Niners 6

  45. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Albert, with you and Del on the blogs, the Niners might not ever lose aqain. You’re both becoming money in the bank for WRONG!

  46. AlbertEinstinkleNo Gravatar says:

That was one of the best games I’ve ever seen. I drank twenty beers and stayed sober I had so much adrenaline pumpin’ through me. What a roller coaster! Hats off to Alex Smith. In the clutch, when it mattered the most, Smith had composure and threw dimes. Great performance today by two guys I’m not real fond of – Vernon Davis and Alex Smith.

  47. ROBNo Gravatar says:

  48. bullitNo Gravatar says:

I still don’t hear an apology to everyone.
Make no mistake when the clown Spitty says adrenaline was pumping it was only cuz he was rooting for the Aints.
You predicted all kinds of crap that never happened maybe cuz you’re an a hole.
You’ll never live this one down hater troll.

  49. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Some here have been selling me on the fact that Alex Smith could not beat Brees in a shoot out. He did. What is the next prediction by our genius Alex hater prognosticators

  50. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Where is Nofear 49er. Fess up you coward. Please resign Alex Smith.

  51. BergerNo Gravatar says:

I would rather have Alex Smith than Peyton Manning. Who is Romo?

  52. bullitNo Gravatar says:

I just wonder how it feels to be on the outside like Spitty and V
and have all things go against what you said. No enjoying the success of the Niners cuz they be hatin trolls. 14-3 and NFC Championship Game. Who’s Got It Better Than Us? NOBODY!!!!

  53. bullitNo Gravatar says:

I’m wondering about the injury list. Ginn,Goodwin,McDonald and Goldson all left the game and everyone came back exept for Ginn.

    Pats are crushing Broncos 42-7.
Tebow better hurry up with his miracle finish.

  54. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Bullit- Nofear still hates the 49ers because Nolan isn’n’t the coach.

  55. AlbertEinstinkleNo Gravatar says:

  56. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Alex Smith needs to be our QB. Somebody please disagree.

  57. phil fanNo Gravatar says:

No way the Broncos would beat the Pats on the road- or at home. That’s common sense all miracles aside.

Ok so 2-0 with 9ers + Pats wins. For the sake of the northern Calif fans NFC Championship would be nice to have at the Stick next Sunday.

  58. phil fanNo Gravatar says:

Bergs that’s been long settled except for a few hard heads. Maybe Jimbo knows something about QBs, huh?
Denny is being gracious about the error of his ways today tho.

  59. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Berger, it’s one thing to hate the 49ers because “so-and-so” is or isn’t the coach. Try hating yourself with the knowledge that there’s never going to be a coaching change. Only one solution there — you have to fire yourself.
Frank is sitting on the kitchen floor sticking out his tongue at me. I don’t know if it’s his way of showing his lack of affection for me, or if he’s practicing the expression all Niner fans will give after Alex’s performance in the NFC Championship Game. 😛

  60. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Hypothetical question: would you guys rather host Eli and the G-Men here next week, or play the Pack in GB minus Rodgers.

  61. phil fanNo Gravatar says:

Either way works for me. Be good if our fans could attend one more game in SF this year.

  62. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Del- Whatever. In your book, do the Niners ever win?

  63. BergerNo Gravatar says:

    NoFear- Obviously you suck!

  64. BergerNo Gravatar says:

NoFear is the worst poster ever. He is a Nolan lover.

  65. BergerNo Gravatar says:

NoFear- I think you fear. Alex is a good QB.

  66. BergerNo Gravatar says:

NoFear has gone away. Alex Smith has proven to be a good QB and NoFear can’t handle it. I’m right here NoFear. Nolan sucks, deal with it. Alex Smith is superior than Mike Nolan when it comes to football.

  67. BergerNo Gravatar says:

    Where is Del? We won!

  68. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Where is NoFear? We won! I guess Alex Smith says otherwise. NoFear hates Alex Smith. He would rather we lose than win if Smith is the QB. Where are you NoFear. Please tell me I am wrong.

  69. unca chuckNo Gravatar says:

    Numbnuts sez:
    Packers 80
    Niners 6
Gee, Spitty, like I said, you’d bitch abiout the next one if you were wrong about this one.
Why bother posting? You’ve benen proen wrong all year, and Alex just won THIS game? I’d be ashamed ro wshow my face here, but, I’m not a complete facre like you are. You lost whatever cred you had 15 weeks ago.

  70. unca chuckNo Gravatar says:

Wow, the party here isn’t over, but my typing sure is.
But ya get the point, skippy. Whine about how bad the Niners will do next week. Like you just did. The rest of us are basking in the victory that just happened. One of the most tough gutty wins in the history of the organzation.
Please tell me what you thought of this game, pal.

  71. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Unca- You go buddy! Give it to ’em!

  72. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Niners win, Stinky goes away, until he can tell us about our next loss.

  73. BergerNo Gravatar says:

    Stinky is smoking joints.

  74. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Alex Smith sucks, Alex Smith sucks, Alex Smith sucks, Alex Smith sucks, Alex Smith sucks, This is for Stinkblood.

  75. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Stinkblood is a major fraud. Please resign Alex Smith.

  76. phil fanNo Gravatar says:

Chuck nails stinkblood but that never stopped the Spit. Unca’s funny- he bans stinky on his site and comes over here get some more. Actually now I think about, Chuck’s purdy smart!

    Bergs vengeance is ours!

  77. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Phil- It is fairly obvious what the truth is. Stinky has no bearing on the truth. BTW, didn’t he and Del tell us Alex could not win a play-off game? I’m sure NoFear swam in the same waters.

  78. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Nolan is the worst coach ever, Alex Smith is a good QB. How about that NoFear?

  79. BergerNo Gravatar says:

NoFear will read this and stay away. He, like stinky, is a propaganda machine. He has no idea of what he talks about unless he can read about it somewhere.

  80. phil fanNo Gravatar says:

Yazzsir the stink, the fear, the del taco/del Mar I mean, they don’t really add up to Jack.

Why? Cause these guys love to play God = they know All (in their heads). Got it all figured out and judged, juried and executed already, before the facts. Why? Obviously cause they ARE God! Naw, never gonna be da case. It’s just for fun but IF we believe them, hey great!

So my friend Berger, please enjoy our moments of triumph in this struggle. Many believe as we do and evidence we saw today is the PROOF that our faith is indeed justified.

And further Lord: Please let us kick the everloving crap outta the Pack or Gigantes. No matter which one.

  81. bullitNo Gravatar says:

There’s an Aints blog called Whodat and they are crucifying and blaming Greg Williams for the loss. They think the rumor is true that he’s coing to the Rams and joining Fisher as their DC.
This will warm your hearts. The guy that they want as their DC based on rumor is the beloved Mike Nolan. Since the Niners canned him he’s lasted one or two years as a DC moved on.
