Caveat Emptor

Last call for NFL knuckleheads to crash their careers and wind up in the mug shot room. This time next week, they’ll all be back in the loving arms of coaches and baby sitters, safe from themselves.

If the NFLPA had any brains, it would negotiate a player contract stipulation that would require half of any player’s salary to be placed in a trust that the player couldn’t touch until his 30th birthday. The Second Chance fund. This wouldn’t deter terminal idiots from their self-imposed journey to Chucksville, but at least they would be able to brag in their later years that they had blown TWO fortunes instead of just one.

It’s been four years since the 49ers began the season with 22 starters and ended the year with the same 22, even if a few were on IR by season’s end. Santa Clara has been a turnstile joint since the day it opened.

We can thank Jed York and Trent Baalke for that. They created an atmosphere that nobody wanted to breathe. Players went anywhere but here. That took a turn for the better last year when York tossed a wad of money at Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch. Two guys with lots of league credibility.

York had to promise the new team that the leaks and meddling would end, and they did … last year. The fact that the leaks stopped on cue was pretty much proof that York was the leaker all along.

Which underlines the fragility of the entire 49ers’ operation. Can York continue to put a lid on himself, year after year? This coming season and the seasons to come are as much about that as they are about the team. York is like a serial criminal with two strikes on him. One more ego-driven meddling spree will be strike three and bring the franchise to a crashing halt for many, many years.

Heard that Matt Barrows is leaving the Sacramento Bee and will be the beat writer for Internet startup “The Athletic” beginning Monday.
One week away from training camp

Here’s an interesting free agent for us .

Tampa Bay only cut Robert Ayers because he only had two sacks lost season, they’re lost – and that’s not a typo as in “their loss,” it’s us actually saying the team has no idea what they’re doing. Ayers made plays on the defensive line without needing to hit the quarterback and was the team’s best defensive linemen not named Gerald McCoy, so what gives? Ayers was ranked by Pro Football Focus as the No. 10 defensive end and had a career-best 89.3 grade, numbers teams should certainly be paying attention to as they organize their rosters for training camp.

“49ers FB Kyle Juszczyk has the most bloated contract in the NFL, per ESPN.”

Niners are now the 5th most valuable franchise in NFL according to Forbes

    1. Cowboys: $4.8 billion.

    2. Patriots: $3.7 billion.

    3. Giants: $3.3 billion.

    4. Redskins: $3.1 billion.

    5. 49ers: $3.05 billion.

    6. Rams: $3 billion.

    7. Bears: $2.85 billion.

    8. Texans: $2.8 billion.

    9. Jets: $2.75 billion.

    10. Eagles: $2.65 billion.

Aaron Donald has not participated in the OTAs or the Ram’s minicamp.
Still unhappy about the last year of his contract and the lack of a new deal.
If he holds out again during training camp again this could disrupt
    the Rams big time.

8 Rams will make more money than Donald this year including Suh and his $14 mil salary.

I have said previously that the Rams have a big name squad but with that comes big salaries which are not sustainable with the salary cap. They at best have a 2 year run.

Rams signing Brandon Cooks today to a 5 year $80 mil extension can’t help because he just arrived.

What comes after big Contracts are big cuts Bullit.
    Donald should get his money.
It’s at whose expense he gets it.

Just glad to be on the threshold of actual football activities again.

  7. robNo Gravatar says:

Juszcyk’s contract may be big for a fullback but in the end it’s only 5 mil and he’s worth every penny

  8. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Rob, Lynch and Shanahan both have 6 year contracts. It shows that they do not want to jeopardize their favorable salary cap further.

The big swallow of the Jimmy G contract. Big money directed to “Todd Gurley light” McKinnon. Big money spent on a long term contract for the undersized C Richburg.

Here is the risk they took. The IOL cannot pass pro consistently from a come from behind situation where the D can pin their ears back and go full throttle on 3rd down.

So expect big emphasis on OZ and play action off of it, screens, and schemes nullifying a pass rush. Taking WCO into new battles. Current LB’s emphasizing coverage and lateral pursuit, along with interior DL taking advantage of our C and weak OG are the battles to be looked at this fall.

Looks like we will hold our powder till next offseason. A lot of changes need to be digested. Sherman and Malcolm Smith need to justify the money spent on them. IOL questions need to show it

  9. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Another fella needs adding to the list, Joe Mixon. Kellon Winslow Jr, Jameis Winston, LeSean McCoy, Marcel Dareus,…

Money talks. NFL stories like this die. Closeted football fans, cheers for the hometeam, keep them homer blinders on.

  10. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Times have changed. IOC Brundage came down hard on a political stunt in 1968. Athletes were poor then. Goodell and owners on grossly overpaid athletes can’t pull the trigger now.

  11. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

So the high paid athletes have clauses in their contracts prohibiting high risk activity like parachuting out of planes.

How about Jimmy. Porn actors have to get thorough regular medical checkups to protect them and fellow actors. Is he prevented from unsafe sex with this “actress”.

A 137.5 million contract is risked on the health of this actress. Modern permissive society is so complicated. We’ve come a long way baby.

Would the clause have to be detailed enough to stipulate his conduct if on film she takes in bodily fluids. Thank you again Cali for enlightening our culture.

  12. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Are you a prude? Didn’t realize you were the Aunt Biddy and the voice of moral authority here. Last time I looked Jimmy is single and if you expect him to be perfect you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.

Maybe Jimmy is following someone else’s lead

  13. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Just medical concern. 5 year contract. Some bad diseases out there. FO has a big investment to protect.

AID/HIV obviously is a worst case. Maybe others. Even if treatable are they chronic and affect performance. Also viral infections can mutate and maybe become untreatable.

Is this stuff worthy of being in clauses. Look at your links later. Do they touch on this issue.

But what I wanted to bring out does political correctness and “tolerance” prevent these clauses from being put in.

Are there court cases between NFL and NFL PA regarding this. The Cali reference was for the Porn industry is coming from Burbank area valley above LA.

This is about unintended consequences, not a morality thing. But I can see where the left would be defensive on this. To me this is a medical and legal issue. Anything more would cause Skeebs to pull my comments. He seems to be overly sensitive on this lately.

  14. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

I’d say it’s more of a taste issue. She’s 41 and not particularly attractive. He’s a young guy with the whole world at his feet. I doubt their dinner has anything to do with bodily fluids.

  15. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Would you sign a contract that allows Jed York to determine who you sleep with???

  16. bullitNo Gravatar says:

“not a morality thing. But I can see where the left would be defensive on this.”

Wow this paints you as a phony conservative who should be valuing individual rights. Not enough government for you?
Or are you just trolling for an argument?

  17. robNo Gravatar says:

TOM , I don’t know about SKEEBS sometimes , as in “she’s not particularly attractive

  18. robNo Gravatar says:

Just scroll down a little to her picture

  19. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

I admit to enjoy dumping gasoline on an issue to inflame it.

Many a time skeebs deletes when it goes over his line. Can I pay you off skeebs to look the other way? Is what I just said legal. Is there a lawyer in the house.

  20. WinderNo Gravatar says:

    Hey Rob, lol.

  21. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Is it because she’s Italian or her cartoonish proportions?

    She floats Rob’s boat.

  22. robNo Gravatar says:

If I had realised she was Italian I might have got there first !

  23. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

PFF says we need, in NJ’s words, a fat man in the middle.

  24. bullitNo Gravatar says:

My bad, she’s a Latina, although Kiara Mia sounds Italian.
Just read that she’s a late bloomer and didn’t start her career until 7 years ago when she was 34.

Kiara Mia has a 23 year old daughter that is a fitness model who is closer to Jimmy’s age.

Slowest time of the year waiting for training camp to start and football talk to begin.

  25. bullitNo Gravatar says:

If you are interested in seeing the Niners in training camp here’s your chance.

  26. robNo Gravatar says:

Even better ! I seem to always gravitate towards those latinas. Mi primera is Nerieda Perez a boricua , mi secundo es Lydia limon .

For someone you’ve heard of you can’t beat Daisy Fuentes … or Kara mia come to think of it !

  27. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Hey dawg, er rob, this song’s for you:

  28. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Another Jimmy G article which has new info and perspective

  29. bullitNo Gravatar says:

That Jimmy G article is different from the usual PR stuff we’ve been reading and gives you a peek inside his life leading up to the Niners.

Pats could’ve sent him to Cleveland but Belichick opted to take less from the Niners and give him a better chance for success under Shanahan.

  30. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Heard other reasons for BB’s motivations.

Why did Pats refuse the better deal from CLE. Was it simply AFC vs NFC.

What happened since the Jimmy deal. CLE hired Todd Haley as OC. The disaster Hue was told stay away from O. Just like the Tampa Bay transition with Love Smith-Dirk Koetter, the corrupt and incompetent Haslam will finally be forced to get rid of Hue and Haley will be new HC. Or dump Hue and get an O minded HC from outside.

Of course look how CLE squandered the #1 and #4. Did Dorsey F Up. A short spread QB and a short CB.

  31. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

29 0f 32 NFL teams made the top 50 sport franchises in america. CLE #50 valued at 1.95 billion. CIN 1.8 billion, DET 1.7 billion, BUF 1.6 billion only teams not in top 50.

All 4 teams are next to eachother. So when OAK moves, does Cali grab one of these for East Bay/Sacramento?

  32. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Read links much, world not america.

OAK only valued 2.38 billion. So after move possible stadium sites Vallejo, Concord Naval Weapons Station?

    Salt Lake City fanbase?

  33. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Found it. Can someone educate me on what Las Vegas is a good move. From wikipedia:

“On November 12, 2016, a report from the NFL’s own in-house media team outlined how Las Vegas might not be a done deal. The report stated that the majority of owners favored the Raiders staying in Oakland due to market size and stability. The vast majority of the NFL’s revenue comes from TV contracts. So because of that, it made little sense for the other 31 NFL owners to vote in favor of one of their partners abandoning the 6th biggest media market for the 42nd.”

  34. robNo Gravatar says:

George Kittle averaged 2.57 YPRR in Garappolo’s five starts.

O.J. Howard racked up the highest yards per route run average of any rookie tight end in 2017.
    1.87 yprr
Howard was the first TE off the board picked in round one by Tampa Bay

Might we have gotten the best TE in the draft ?

  35. robNo Gravatar says:

    Training camp starts tomorrow !

  36. robNo Gravatar says:

I think I’ll go with this one

  37. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Don’t see how you could pass on #2, Rob.

  38. bullitNo Gravatar says:

On the Eve of Training Camp still another article about Jimmy G this time from SI. Seems like Belichick texts Jimmy G after every victory congratulating him on his success.

  39. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

    #2….Hands down 😀

  40. robNo Gravatar says:

TC is here ! First preseason game is less than two weeks after that

    Here we go guys !!!

  41. robNo Gravatar says:

We are ready to kick off the 2018 season !

  42. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

First scene is what will happen against the Rams DL if our O does not scheme properly. After that just Mano a mano, Iupati vs Damon Snacks Harrison, Will Hernandez vs Vita Vea, Quentin Nelson vs vending machine stocked with hate and pain.

    Hey, com’on, it’s a slow summer.
