Carrot and Stick

The Rams and 49ers have not been relevant in the same season since about 2002. But they’ve certainly both been irrelevant in quite a few of those years. We’ve got to get these two synced up if there’s ever going to be a fierce rivalry again.

The standings would indicate this year is one of those unsynced years, but the Niners might just give the southern boys a game of it anyway. Or quite possibly not.

Since sharing the bottom of the NFC West two years ago, the Rams have zoomed upwards and ousted the Seahawks as the top dog in the West, while the 49ers have remained rooted in the cellar with the Cardinals joining them as their new roommates.

The Rams are the only unbeaten team in league at the moment. The favorite to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. After last Monday’s weak showing by the Green Bay defense and the stumbling around efforts of the Vikings, the Saints look like the only team the Rams have to fear come playoff time.

We’re at the point in the season when a lot of teams start packing it in until next year, or are a loss or two away from that dubious resignation. The Niners reached that point in the third game when Jimmy Garoppolo tore his ACL. A win against the Rams on Sunday would be have to suffice as their season’s greatest delight.

However, after this game, there are four straight winnable games on the schedule. The save-face stretch of the season. The team could go from 1-6 to 5-6 before facing their nemesis – the Seahawks.

So there is still some drama left for the team and us. Maybe. Perhaps. At this moment, at least. Just a massive butt whipping followed by a surprising four game winning streak away from How ‘Bout Them Niners.

There was a time when the Niners would have built a stadium in Hunters Point. Now it appears they were fortunate that didn’t happen unless you don’t mind glowing in the dark after tailgating.

Radioactivity or the Curse of the Ohlone?
Seems either carries an eternity of issues.

“Browns are trading RB Carlos Hyde to Jacksonville.”

    Out: WR Dante Pettis (knee).
    Doubtful: CB Jimmie Ward (hamstring).
Questionable: WR Pierre Garçon, Sherman, WR Trent Taylor, CB K’Waun Williams, CB Ahkello Witherspoon.

Who’s going to get the hookers to the Rams’ hotel to seduce Gurley Saturday night?
Ex-Lax into the coffee for the brunch/lunch menu?

Carlos Hyde for a 5th. Saving dollars, Chubb and Duke Johnson on rookie contracts.

With a depleted secondary, it is hard to see a plan to throttle Gurley as making the game competitive. Like the GB game, the secondary will be targeted.

Tyvis Powell replaces Jimmy Ward. Cooper Kupp is out. I see a blowout. To keep it close the running game should be emphasized. Very worried about CJ’s health with that inside rush. Do not play to win. Playcalling to preserve what is left of our O skill players for another day.

NFL Network Gamepass replay of TNF. Scouting report, good game to watch.

Confirmed, Cards stink. Iupati did not play. Worst O in NFL.

Larry Fitzgerald still highest player on team. Made no sense when Cards on top. Makes 10X no sense now. OC fired? Keim and Wilks should have been. Odds either finish the season.

Tough for us to beat them again. We may need injuries.

Our Achilles heel on D is passing. DEN has Courtland Sutton, Demarius Thomas, and Emanuel Sanders.

Hopefully Rosen can get it together enough against our weak pass D.

Byron Leftwich OC? Throw a flag for intentional tanking.

Two pick 6’s already and ARI braintrust blames it on McCoy. JJ Nelson broke off his route in fear of contact. 21-3 and one and a half minutes still left in 1st Qtr.

Second timeout called by ARI, in 1st Qtr.

Fitzgerald reduced pay from earlier. One year contract 11 mil base plus 2 mil plus signing bonus. That is OK.

  12. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Who is responsible for Cards oline? Rosen a tackling dummy out there. Rosen possible concussion from Barrett sack.

3 years experience as a QB coach. Wilks and Keim screwing up, shifting blame.

  14. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Cards have QB and Chandler Jones edge. They can do well with a trade down.

“Richard Sherman and Jimmie Ward are inactive for today’s game. Ahkello Witherspoon, Greg Mabin, Tarvarius Moore and Tyvis Powell are the 49ers’ healthy CBs.”

    Bombs away, baby.

    49ers inactives

    DT Jullian Taylor

    Wow! These guys are good!

How’s that for a double entendre?

  20. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Tackles solo 8, sacks 4, QB hits 5, tackles for loss 6, fumbles recovered 1

Question: Which unit on LAR defense did this?

    Answer: Aaron Donald

Looks like Wade Phillips gets Suh and Brockers to absorb blockers to get gap penetration for Aaron

Who did he take advantage of.

  21. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Right tackle Mike McGlinchey struggled in pass protection and center Weston Richburg was completely overwhelmed by Donald.

    From Peter Panacy

Wade Phillips is in heaven with all the talent he’s been given to work with.
Suctitude has it’s rewards if you Draft the right pieces.
For now, I’m thinking the pieces we have aren’t being Coached well enough.
Saleh/Lynch need to have a plan. Not sure what the Solomon Thomas selection was predicated on TBH.
In a way I’m glad they opted to take the Rams on with the young Secondary today.
In order to hate losing you need to taste it first hand.
Even the Vets on the OL got their butts kicked.
Need better Draft position to improve, like Rams and Cleveland are showing.
Nice to hit on some late RD projects too.
Hopefully Jullian will be one of those.
