The Cardinals and 49ers met for the second time this season and the results were pretty much the same. A deadly boring contest which Arizona won. 49er fans were apparently expecting this sort of performance, as the stadium was only about 25% full. Charitably speaking. Empty is another word that comes to mind.
Each team had a different QB this time around, a career backup vs a rookie backup. The career backup spent the day keeping his jersey clean by handing the ball to Adrian Peterson, who racked up 159 yards on 37 carries. The rookie backup heaved it up there 51 times and completed 24, while being sacked five times and beaten to a pulp the rest of the time. Advantage: Arizona.
As is their habit, four or five Niner guys got injured during the game. Starting strong safety Jacquiski Tartt broke his arm and will head to IR and join his fellow safety Jimmie Ward, who broke his arm last week.
Newly acquired QB Jimmy Garappolo watched the game from the sidelines, no doubt dreaming of joining the Denver Broncos when he becomes a free agent this offseason. Dreaming of staying here in Santa Clara would be evidence of a mental disorder that would be grounds for getting him committed to an asylum.
0-9. Ohfernine. Kinda rolls off the tongue like a loogie dribbling down a chin.
The HC/GM duo of Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch has managed to out-underperform and out-screwup former GM Trent Baalke and the previous two HCs, Jim Tomsula and Chip Kelly. This is not an easy un-achievement.
It might make one recall that last offseason, other than Shanahan, there was another young wunderkind offensive guru looking for an HC gig. His name is Sean McVay and his Rams team is currently 6-2 and in first place in the NFC West. Did our dimwit owner choose unwisely? Is it even possible for him to choose wisely, unless it’s an accident?
Like draft picks, it might take another year or two to properly assess the worth of the new regime. There’s still a chance that it will not be yet another disaster. And that’s your 49er highlight for today.

It looked like the Cards D took the Niners QB’s nameplate as handling instructions.
Who calls so many pass plays behind a shit o-line who’s not trying to get his starting QB killed? The question sort of answers itself. Any fool trying to play the rest of the season. But then Shanahan is known to sacrifice his players for the sake of his “brilliant” game plan. Where’s RG III? Get in there and play, son, it’s only a coupla knees.
One might have thought, run, run, run, play-action, dump-offs, stout defense at home would have been a better bet yesterday.
Skeebers is right about the Rams head coach. Coulda, shoulda, woulda, but then Jed…
Keep playing on your knees boys. It’s working.
Yeah it sure didn’t look like the play calling was designed to help the QB succeed. I really like CJ and haven’t seen toughness like that in awhile but it will be short lived if the play calling doesn’t change.
nofear- The Rams have been drafting low for a long time now their team is nothing like the current 49ers. I do agree that getting McVay was what turned the corner but they had the players to begin with all they needed was a coach. We have had the worse talented team for the last couple of years because of our players(and coaching). Peters, Mayhew, and Lynch will take care of that but it’s gonna take awhile.
Looks like the Niner injury bug traveled with the guys who left: Quinton Dial and Ahmad Brooks both out for tonight’s game.
Winder, some of that drafting low is because they trade all their other picks to do so. It’s a choice. You can pick all the “bargains” with all the picks you’ve collected or you can lay it on the line with one or two standouts.
You also have to re-sign those guys you develop and not give them up to division rivals because you’ve put yourself in a corner paying a million dollars a game for a guy sitting on the bench pissing on the flag and now you’ve got no QB. Goff was all but written off as a bust before their new HC changed things up.
Harbaugh made it work when he was stuck with Shit7torm by designing a college offense around him. Shanahan’s not that smart, apparently.
I just saw a 25yd TD on an opening drive by a WR I picked up for a bye week replacement. I must be right!
That was ex Niner Bethea who tried to take Beathrd’s head off leading to the donnybrook. Seems that Antoine is holding a grudge having been cut.
Much has been made of both Lynch and Shanahan’s approval of Carlos Hyde standing up for his QB and getting tossed.
Rams spent heavily in the offseason and bolstered their Oline and receiving corps.
McVay deserves credit for turning Goff around.
Now it’s Shanahan’s turn to see what he can do with Garappolo.
The test will be in year 3 2019 where these teams are at and Jimmy G hopefully has a stable Oline and some receiving talent and one year learning Shanahan’s offense..
The play that personified this 0-9 start was Beathard bouncing the ball up in the air off Trent Brown’s helmet for an easy pick by the Cards.
Nofear- Lol. My teams haven’t been doing all that great. In fact I have been doing better off the waiver wire myself lately.
Veterans Day 2017
Thanks to all the brave who served and the sacrifices made to protect our freedom.
Looks like Blaine Gabbert will be starting for the Cardinals the next week or two. Should be fun.
“Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict ejected for making contact with an official.”
I hate to think what this moron’s life will be like after his NFL career is over.
49ers inactive
DL Solomon Thomas
WR Trent Taylor
TE George Kittle
DE Aaron Lynch
LB Elijah Lee
LB Pita Taumeopenu
OT Darrell Williams
Throw in Joe Williams and that is half of this years draft class. Hard to evaluate if they don’t play.
Lynch has perfected the art of nursing an injury for most of a season.
Well, this is different. I wonder if we can keep it up for another half.
Pass defense does not appear to be on the menu for either team today.
Niners just start 4th quarter with TD from Beathard running it in.
They take 11 point lead. Beathard appears to have injured his right hand diving into the endzone.
Time for Jimmy G’s debut?
Beathard still playing.
Breida just scores and this game is over as they have an 18 point lead.
Win #1 unless something disastrous happens.
Reason Niners are leading and gonna win.
Middle of 4th quarter and they have yet to punt.
Sorry I jinxed them.
First punt by Niners.

Marquise Goodwin played and scored on a 63 yd TD bomb despite losing his son who was born prematurely last night. Took a lot of guts.My prayers go out to his family.
