Bengals 24, 49ers 14

For most of the first half, the 49ers and Bengals held a punting contest. Very scintillating viewing. Then quite suddenly, with five minutes left until halftime, the Bengals put up 21 points. One TD came after an Anquan Boldin fumble at the 49er 20 yard line, the next came after Bradley Pinion shanked an eighteen yard punt that set the Bengals up at the 49er 36, and then another when Vance McDonald clobbered an intended pass into the hands of a Bengals’ linebacker. Sic transit punting duel, sic transit game.

After intermission, the Bengals roared down the field and kicked a FG to make it 24-0, then sat on the ball the rest of the second half, daring the 49ers to catch them. This did not occur, although the team did achieve its standard garbage time output of 14 points.

With the loss, the Niners reached double digit defeats for the first time since Mike Singletary‘s final year in 2010. This ignominious achievement did not go unnoticed by the 49er FO, who trotted out COO Al Guido during halftime to announce that Jed York and Trent Baalke were comfortable going forward with Jim Tomsula.

Guido has never uttered a peep until now, so we apparently have a new voice of bullshit within the building. Whether “going forward” meant “the next two games” or “all of 2016” was not specified, but likely means the latter.

Gosh, how reassuring.

And it might be worth pointing out that Tomsula still has two years remaining on his contract, so firing him would cost the Yorks $7 million. The Yorks are not known for parting with their nickels willingly. GM Baalke’s contract runs through next year, too, so he’ll no doubt get another draft to screw up before his tenure comes under York review.

Don’t know who owns the concession revenue at the Santa Clara stadium, but it’s probably safe to predict times will be very lean in the coming years. Yesterday’s crowd was barely 50% capacity, down to about 30% in the second half. If that. WR Torrey Smith summed it up better than he catches passes: “I don’t blame them … Who wants to sit there and watch that?”

The self-flagellationists among us will take heart that Tomsula may actually have a longer run as 49er HC than his predecessor Jim Harbaugh had. After all, Baalke’s drafts and decisions have gutted the roster of talent and leadership. It might be years before this is rectified. So what does it matter which doofus stands on the sideline looking lost in a foreign city? Especially if he is earning a minimum wage NFL coaching salary.

And if that doesn’t make your Christmas merry, there’s always the Golden Gate bridge swan dive.

And all signs continue to point to the Ninerpocalypse in 2016. I get the image of Jed sitting in his office with his asskissers, ‘reasoning’, “Hey, it can’t get any worse,” while the universe cackles with evil glee and prepares the avalanche of shit.

There is not enough Tequila in all of Christendom to numb the pain of watching this assholery.

There is no rhyme or reason to the offensive gameplans.
There is no identity even though the three stooges announced that this team would run the ball.

The clowns in the barnyard complained about the Harbaugh offense.
They must love the Tomsula version where there is simply no plan.
It’s back to the pre Harbaugh days of 3rd and 8 and running 7 yard patterns.

The team looks great in practice so Jimmy T is just baffled why they don’t perform in the games.

Eric Reid is playing terribly and making bad choices.

He was a FS with promise under Fangio/Donatel. This year he has morphed into a below average Safety who takes poor angles and does not make plays when he has to.

  4. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Over at the barnyard the head clown is pushing the implication that Tomsula is a bettr coach than Harbaugh.
Teams are lined up to hire Tomsula away.
Perhaps Baalke can get a couple of #1 picks for Jimmy T.

Want to see complete 180 degree turns? Want to see amnesia? Go to the Pyongyang barnyard.

When your organization is more comfortable with a talentless hack who kisses ass than with a brilliant employee who is a challenge to handle, you are screwed and you get what you deserve.

And that falls right at the Jedster’s little feet.

Truman said it best: If want to be loved, get a dog. And if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Mommy York needs to find Jed a nice little shopping mall to mismanage and put someone with some stones in charge of this team, or things will just keep getting worse.

5-11 is looking prescient at the moment. I suppose it depends on how many players have given up. Certainly not Boone, since he’s climbed that mountain and has already reached his work limit. No one should be happier than him. The tidy locker room must put a smile on his face.

Primary blogging computer died and I’m in no mood to get it fixed yet again (it reminds me too much of the York Niners – “unbootable mount volume”, I think that’s Jed) so…

24-21 over the Lions in OT. 7-9 next season (we get a cheesecake with cherries schedule compared to this year).

You kill a lot of computers, RTF.

  8. RTFireflyNo Gravatar says:

That I do, but this one has the set the record for most deaths and jaws of life revivals.

Hey RT, is that like the ‘unmountable boot volume’ BSOD stop error?

You upgrading/changing hardware or software or dealing with viruses?

    Yesterday’s halftime festivities.

Really is a shame there were no butts in all of those seats.

Funny as hell to watch Chuckles do his flip flop on the Pyongyang barnyard circus blog.
He’s getting pushback and in denial that he ever said Tomsula was an improvement and Baalke was a great GM.

Posters on his blog realize he’s a Pinnochio always telling fibs.

  12. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

OT Ronnie Stanley from ND is entering the Draft.

He’s a possible consideration as an early Pick.

DT Nkemdiche is coming out as well, albeit with a TON of warning flags attached.

  13. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Armstead (91) doesn’t want to make the play. He’s running away from the ball.

  14. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Not exactly a Justin Smith moment.

  15. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Armstead is another Baalke project who’s headed towards being another dud.
So far Armstead has 2 sacks and 11 tackles and might as well be a 5th round pick.
Armstead shows no instincts or nose for the ball and he’s a little slow in his pursuit often giving up.

In hindsight the guy Baalke should have taken is who the Chefs got with the pick after the Niners, Marcus Peters CB. He’s going to be the NFL rookie defensive player of the year.

Armstaed is going to join Carradine and Brandon Thomas as “potential” players”. This season they needed a lot out of their first round pick and he showed very little to justify his draft status.

  16. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Total BS and a WTF move that’s become typical of Baalke/Tomsula.

They release Cadet and sign Dejuan Harris off the Raven’s practice squad rather than giving Hayne a look in the last 2 meaningless games.

They need to clean house both coaching and GM.

  17. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Kawakami will blow you away with who he thinks Jed might consider hiring to coach the Niners

  18. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Dejaun Harris played for the Seahags on 12/13 and gained 42 yards on 16 carries. They cut him.

Baalke is settling on signing garbage players. Why is Jerome Simspson still on this team?

  19. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Another reason the Niners are mediocre.
Baalke is living out his fantasy of being a football coach now that Harbaugh is gone.
Since Baalke has never coached anyone above HS level this is very bizarre that he’s interfering and going over his coaching staff’s head with his meddling.

  20. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Navarro Bowman only Niner to be voted onto Pro Bowl team.

For those holding your breath for Erik Pears and Marcus Martin
    it’s a no.

  21. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Staley made it in, his 5th straight time.

  22. bullitNo Gravatar says:

And Boone made it as an alternate and I wonder why???

Some guys think Pinion still has a chance.

  23. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

“Only 2 of 40 draft picks (Aldon Smith, Eric Reid) have made Pro Bowl since 49ers officially promoted Trent Baalke to GM in 2011.”

  24. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Baalke wants to coach. He’s tired of being the GM.
Even the big ticket FA, Torrey Smith was a major disappointment.

Boldin is starting to show his age and also had a mediocre year.
Uncertain if he’ll be back or even wants to come back.
unfortunately none of the young guys has even come close to even becoming reliable.

    49ers 2016 schedule:

Home: NO, TB, NE, NYJ, SEA, AZ, STL/LA, DAL-or-NYG-or-PHI

  26. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

Another off-season of chaos and Baalke drafting and I could easily see us going 3-13 or even 2-14 with that schedule.

  27. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

The 5-9 Lions are a 9.5 favorite over the Niners. That is really sad.

  28. bullitNo Gravatar says:

    Merry Christmas Niner Faithful!

If everything is status quo then Santa brought you the lump of coal to add to the dumpster fire Jed has created.
