Another four days until we find out which QB the 49ers will be selecting with the number three pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
It’s been a month since the team traded a bucketful to move up to that number three spot, and we’ve all endured enough media scenarios to fill the apparently limitless emptiness between Brett Farve’s ears about which QB the Niners will choose. Which is no small feat considering there are only three QBs in the frame for this pick: Justin Fields, Mac Jones, and Trey Lance.
This is in no way a disparagement of Farve’s ears, BTW. After all, they were not consulted when being forever attached to the cavern of eternal dumb that serves as their home.
You have to hand it to the sports media for tirelessly flogging this two day story into a four week mini-series. It’s not easy writing the same thing everyday, changing only the NAME and the adjectives of the protagonist with each rearrangement of paragraphs.
Nobody writes much about the top two picks in the draft, which seem to be written in stone. Trevor Lawrence at number one and Zack Wilson at number two. Why these two are seen as noticeably superior to Fields and Lance escapes me, since they all have similar skills. Maybe it’s because the top two are white guys and Fields and Lance are black. This sort of prejudice is something the media, by and large, is understandably very reluctant to mention, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
Jones doesn’t have the athleticism of the other four QBs, but he’s white and he excels in the pocket. Which is what Shanahan wants from his QB. He wants a QB running his offense and not running around inventing one on the fly.
At any rate, I think I can safely speak for most of us when I say Thursday cannot come soon enough. It’s a lot more satisfying to bitch about the present than bitch about the future.
In reality I stopped thinking about who we are gonna pick a few days ago and haven’t paid any attention to the media for quite a bit longer than that. I just came to the conclusion that I really don’t know who the best QB is so I won’t start complaining until the appropriate time.
We’re almost there Skeebs.
Good news is, we won’t have to wait long to get the answer.
I’ll simply remind everyone that we have Baalke and the NYJ ahead of us.
Nothing is guaranteed in terms of Draft expectations.
I’ve also heard that Urban Meyer indicated that the Owner (Kahn) would make the choice of QB.
Another Owner like Jerry and Danny in JAX?
Who knows…

NJ- thanks for the list it’s as good as any I have seen the “pros” do.
Thanks Winder, kinda naked in it’s details this year, without the Combine numbers to give it some meat.
Just like everyone has an A hole, everyone has an opinion on who the Niners will take at #3. McShay says Lance and Kiper says Jones.
The question is whether you want to wait up for the Ferrari or you are driving the brand new Toyota Camry. One is flashy and one is reliable.
Reminds me of this which would never air on TV today

A most unusual year with no combine and no visits by prospects to your facility. Lance only played in one game in 2020 so you’re drafting for the upside if you decide on him.
At the beginning they said Mac Jones had a high football IQ. Recently
Trey Lance has been shown to have the same Intellect.
I would be happy with either but you have to lean towards Lance because of the bigger arm and running ability.
In the end I trust Shanahan will take the better fit. My criteria is you have to have a QB that throws receivers open. None of this waiting f or a receiver to break open and then trying to zip the ball to him. I want a QB capable of getting to 3rd and 4th reads and if not there check it down.
OOPS!! Wrong link.
This is what I wanted to post

Crazy rumor of the day
Niners tried to trade for Rodgers last night
https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/04/29/report-49ers-offered-no-3-overall-pick-plus-more-for-aaron-rodgers/
On ESPN Schefter just confirmed that Rodgers has told the Packers he doesn’t want to play for them.
This is a developing story. Stay tuned as everyone not happy with their QB situation is calling the Packers now
Lot of nutty shit going on today. Hope the Niners don’t overthink this thing.
The Niner future is Trey Lance

Lance can throw “the bomb”

I like the pick and the gamble we took. Hope it pays off.
We’re at least assured that the backup QB this year will be almost as good as the starter. No more Mullens and Beathard.
Yeah, I think after this year it’s gonna be Lance and Rosen and whoever they want on the PS.
Funny that the 3 other members of NFC West each chose a undersized but fast slot receiver with their second round picks Rams and Seahags sorely needed Oline
Niners choose OG Banks known as “Dancing Bear” from Alameda with second pick.
Draft so far:
1. Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State
2. Aaron Banks, G, Notre Dame
3. Trey Sermon, RB, Ohio State
3. Ambry Thomas, CB, Michigan
This is the time of year to be hopeful. I usually always think we drafted pretty good until I find out we didn’t. I remember saying that Baalky had some good drafts until I realized he was totally terrible. That actually took a few years. I am so on board with our FO now that these guys are gonna have to flop before I give up on em.
In Baalke’s first year as GM of the Jaguars, he’s already drafted TWO guys coming off ACL tears. Unbelievable.
Jaylon Moore, OG/OT.
Deommodore Lenoir, CB
Talanoa Hufanga, S
Elijah Mitchell, RB
And that’s all folks!
What no DL or WR. This one is pretty different from the prior drafts.
Elijah Mitchell RB ran a 4.33 40
He could be fastest guy on the team, faster than Mostert
I wonder if the Niners have given up on finding a decent punt returner.
You would have thought Dante Pettis would’ve been a natural because he returned 5 punts for TDs in college but he was a zero. Same can be said for Trent Williams.
The last threat as a pint returner was Ted Ginn who averaged 13 yds a return. That is a hidden stat for field position and could add short fields at the very least leading to FGs.
NJ- I see you had Elijah Mitchell on your board. He just might turn out to be a good one. I noticed the just about every player we picked has a nasty streak. I think we just upped our game.
New post is up.
