Eras Come, Eras Go

The retirement of Joe Staley closed the books on all the players drafted from the Mike Nolan/Scot McCloughan era. In fact, only two players from those years are still on NFL rosters – Alex Smith and Frank Gore. If Michael Crabtree finds a team sometime this season, it will be a threesome of pre-2010 49er players still employed.

The longest tenured 49er now is, oddly enough, Jimmie Ward. From  the 2014 draft class.

Looking at the current roster, there are only three, maybe four guys whom you might expect to still be here ten years from now. Jimmy Garoppolo, George Kittle, Mike McGlinchey, and maybe Nick Bosa. Although the ferocious way Kittle plays might preclude him from having a very long career. Fred Warner might also be a candidate, but linebackers don’t usually have long careers, either.

At least the franchise finally has the QB situation resolved. For twenty years, they had Joe Montana and Steve Young, then a couple years of serviceable play by Jeff Garcia, followed by fifteen years of trotting out one failed candidate after another. You can’t necessarily win a lot of SBs with an elite QB, but having one guarantees your team is at least in the mix each year (see Dan Marino: 0 SBs, 10  playoffs).

Of course this flies in the face of Jed York‘s professed disdain for anything other than SB wins, but it’s possible he’s shelved his arrogance after five years of self-inflicted pitiful teams. At least he’s been quiet lately, so perhaps he’s learned his lesson.

Another new era of players for all of us to form attachments to. Either good or bad.

If we’re lucky, Kinlaw might make that ten-year list. Real lucky, maybe even Aiyuk.

But yeah, ten years on one team is damned rare in the cap era. I wouldn’t put money on *anyone* from your list or mine making it.

    Or some of us, probably.

At this point I am hoping for 15 but 10 or under is probably more realistic.

Let’s see how this plays out. Cody Latimer WR was arrested on assault and gun charges.
At his court hearing it could’ve been justified because the guy he assaulted is accused of sexually assaulting Latimer’s 4 year old son.

This is not your typical offseason run of the mill assault with a gun.
Let’s see where the facts lead and Latimer might be exonerated for extreme special circumstances.

Seahags are trying to sign FA RB Devonte Freeman with Plan B being Carlos Hyde. That leaves Marshawn Lynch as the backstop if all else fails.

I’m not convinced that football is a sport where you can sit out for 90% pf the year and perform like an All Pro in playoff scenarios.
It’s not a good thing for team chemistry. It’s different if you are hurt because you can attend meetings and you’re at the facility as part of the roster.

    “We want winners!!”

Former 49ers coach Mike Singletary will not return for a third season at the helm of a Texas high school team. His record in two seasons was 1-21.

I wonder if he ran the nutcracker.

Unfortunately for Singletary Heitmann sustained a career ending injury doing the “nutcracker”. However it atill remains an integral part of college football practices. The drill is a stain on Singletary’s reputation but it is basic football and I don’t fault him/

Look at the first video of Ohio State and the second pair up in the drill is Bosa and I’m thinking it’s Joey Bosa as it’s 2015.

    LSU runs it

Most major college teams have this drill and I can show you a dozen more videos. I know Texas runs it.

Coaches think this drill is good for team bonding and it’s fooyball drill. Players get hurt, it’s part of football. Guys rip their knees in non contact drills running a route.

I don’t think the players liked it very much.

NJ, heard anything good or bad about PHI S Tre Sullivan?

Been doing some reading and he is the grandson of the honorable DC Circuit Court Judge Emmet Sullivan. His father is a real bad dude. The honorable judge fixed at least two serious crimes. Deep State knows and extorting the honorable judge to keep the Flynn case still alive.

    Like father, like son?

I have never seen this version before but what a treat. More Ronnie Lott up close and personal.

bullit- Great video. I was lucky to meet and talk with Lott in ’82.’ He wasn’t that big of a guy which goes to show just how much heart means at the pro level. Soft spoken and very humble off the field but on the field not so much.

Wonder how many training camps will be transferred from left lockdown states to right reopen states. Detroit and Carolina may do it in West Virginia. Raiders avoid Alameda and Napa for Henderson NV.

Marathe has taken a lot of hits on this blog but you have to give him credit and his due.

He has come through once again making a potential long terms deal
for Trent Williams team friendly. So looks like Niners will be set at LT for at least a few years.

Lynch extending some goodwill on the final year of his contract. A bit of home discount along with a discount for SF being a SB contender should keep his next contract reasonable. He also deals with injuries.

MIA at levi’s Oct 11 will bring Ereck Flowers who got a 3 yr 30 million deal.
