Beware the Curse of the Three

If the 49ers were a long established contender, this Sunday might be considered a “trap game.” But the current team is still trying to prove it belongs, so it’s unlikely they will be taking any team lightly this year. Every game is a chance to show the world they have arrived.

Still, the Steelers not having Ben Roethlisberger at QB this Sunday should probably be viewed as a fortuitous break. It’s possible that his replacement, Mason Rudolph, will unexpectedly dazzle the world in this game, but I doubt many believe that is going to happen.

Of course, what would really be nice would be to obliterate Pittsburgh offensively, making the matter of their QB a moot point.

It’s probably too early to worry about style points, I guess. We’re still in the “OMG! The 49ers win!” stage.

Not to jinx things, but according to one of the beat writers, it’s been twenty years since the Steelers last won a game in the Bay Area. That would put them clobbering the 1999 team that was helpless after Steve Young got knocked into retirement in the third game of the season.

This is also the third game of the season, which was the game number last year when Jimmy Garoppolo got knocked out for the season. He was also knocked out of the third game in 2015, while replacing the suspended Tom Brady.

Getting sweaty yet?

Not impressed with our opponents thus far.
We simply took advantage of the breaks.
    0-3 Steelers?
Something tells me that won’t happen in Rogers’ NFL. Though spotting Cleveland to a little bit of a lead might be a fortuitous option?
Beware the Jed York stadium blues.
    Bring in the Medicine Man…

Jerry Rice says the 49ers can win the SB this year. Anybody remember the last time Rice said something that wasn’t borderline cuckoo.

  4. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

Jerry stumped heavily for a guy named Antonio as I recall…
    We love you Jerry.
Get off the stump now. Please.

  5. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

Roger and his minions wanted the LA Mkt in the SB last year.
Maybe it’s time for Cleveland now?
    100 year anniversary plan?
Somehow Jed York doesn’t seem to fit?
    Who knows…..Roger?

    NJ

“Somehow Jed York doesn’t seem to fit?”

Not a Jed supporter but wasn’t the Super Bowl at Levis a couple of years ago?

More like you need to worry about the City Of Santa Clara that doesn’t like the traffic and prefers fewer events. These City Council nincompoops don’t realize the business the crowds bring to their restaurants and hotels. Too late now for builder’s remorse.

  7. bullitNo Gravatar says:

The more I think about it, the more stupid the Santa Clara City Council looks.

Where is Levis Stadium built??? Next to Great America, an amusement park that has been around for almost 50 years. The zoning for the neighborhood is for entertainment. Santa Clara is not a quiet bedroom community because they also have the SJ airport there. If you want quiet you need to move somewhere else.

  8. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

“The 49ers signed T Sam Young to a one-year deal and have placed WR Trent Taylor on injured reserve.”

Big loss. Taylor another guy who just can’t stay healthy.

  9. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

If Antonio Brown doesn’t get suspended this week, there’s something rotten in Denmark.

  10. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

Wonder how soon Young is in starting lineup. He was in camp a couple of weeks, so he should know the line calls.

  11. winderNo Gravatar says:

Sad to hear about Taylor. Hope it’s the 6/8 week IR.

  12. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

Bullit I’m not looking at it in those terms.
It’s whether Herr Goodell wanted him there, like LA.
    Officiating. Integrity. The Shield.
    It stinks in Denmark too.

  13. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

Browns, Jags, Lions,Texans have never been there…..
    100 year anniversary….
    Marketing is Marketing huh?
    We’ll see what happens.

    AB released…
    Hmmmmmm?

  15. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Anybody else want to sign this clown?

  16. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

    Don’t ask Jerry ;-D

  17. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

Damn. The Circus was in town… for one week.

Maybe AB and Kappy can hook up and commiserate about being Stupid.

  18. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Should be interesting on Sunday as talk radio suspects that there could be a Steeler crowd exceeding 10K fans as they travel well.

Niner Faithful have had little to cheer for since Levis opened.
This will be a good test for the home field advantage.

Oh yeah and they’re honoring TO at halftime. Big whoop!

Chris Simms who happened to be Kyle Shanahan’s roommate and best buddy at Texas explains the “Oh Shit!!!” play.

That was the play that Goodwin was wide open for a TD in case you were wondering.

The AB channel says it’s going out of business. Too bad. It’s not often you get to see a guy blow himself up every other day.

  21. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

    49ers inactives:

    QB C.J. Beathard
    RB Tevin Coleman
    WR Jalen Hurd
    S Jimmie Ward
    OT Joe Staley
    OT Sam Young
    DT Jullian Taylor

  22. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Jason Verrett is active. Shall we post odds on whether he makes it through the game without getting injured?

  23. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

Can anyone here hold on to a ball?

Still plenty of time and only down by six, but come on.

  24. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

    Ye gads!

  25. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

    Finally.

  26. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

And Jason Verrett makes the worst 49er debut in years.

  27. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

    Unbelievable.

  28. bullitNo Gravatar says:

    Watching this is torture.

  29. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

One measure of a really good team is when you can win a game that you know you probably really should not have – when you overcome playing a shitty game and get the “W” anyway.

Big game for us. 3-0 at the Bye? I’ll take it.

  30. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Jimmy G took a lot of punishment but he hung in there and overcame a lot of adversity.I guess his knee held up well and shouldn’t be a concern.

The defense was something else except for Verret. Moore needs to clean up on the angles he takes as a safety.

I thought they were doomed when the ball hit James as he was in motion.

Bring on the Brownies and Phuck the Rams.

  31. bullitNo Gravatar says:

    What curse?

    Seahags lose to Aints.

  32. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Lot’s of red in the stands. The home crowd represented and Levis is a home field.
Not as many Steeler fans as anticipated.

  33. winderNo Gravatar says:

That was an ugly win but a win none the less. I hope we can heal over the bye. Defense wins games.

  34. bullitNo Gravatar says:

One thing is for sure Jimmy G is one tough SOB.
He takes a lickin and keeps on tickin.
No deer in headlights look for him.

Hopefully this will erase any doubts that he’s the franchise QB.

  35. Charlie KruegerNo Gravatar says:

Doubts? Well, he has to make it through the season and make some playoff noise, but he took a ton of shots today and kept his poise. We could easily be 1-2 but for some strong finishes,

There were a lot of Steeler fans but it was a fun day at the pant leg.

$50.00 parking is a bitch, I must say.

  36. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

The knee doesn’t appear to be a mental or physical concern for Jimmy at all Bullit, thankfully.
He’s been quite determined to stand tall in the pocket, with traffic around his feet. Good sign indeed.
Happy to see the team feeling good about themselves too.
Only caught highlights today but, I’ll get through the entire game in a day or 2.
Always good to get a W, especially when the turnovers are tearing the progress down.
