Respect, Just a Little Bit

Gloomy week in 49erville. HC Kyle Shanahan must be feeling a little snake bit these days. Every time he brings in a player to help the team, that player ends up on IR. If this keeps up, players are going to be leery of coming here.

This week’s opponent, the Los Angeles Chargers, have had a similar run of bad luck on the injury front these past few seasons. Like the Niners, they were expected to contend for the playoffs this year, but currently sport a 1-2 record, just like our boys.

Unlike our boys, though, the Chargers still have a chance to salvage their season.

Then again, perhaps there are some 49er fans who are also Iowa Hawkeye fans and are wagging their fingers at us this week. CJ Beathard is their boy and he’s in his second season with Shanahan’s offensive system. Will Jimmy Garoppolo get Wally Pipped this year?

After all, last year when Garoppolo stepped in for an injured Beathard, he promptly threw a touchdown pass in a losing cause and went on to win five straight games to close out the season. Last Sunday, Beathard stepped in for an injured Garoppolo and promptly threw a touchdown pass in a losing cause, too! Are the hairs on the back of your neck standing up about now? Is hope tapping gently on your beleaguered soul?

True, Beathard’s TD was negated by a Niner penalty, but that doesn’t dilute the fact that Beathard threw it. Beating the Chargers this week will go a long way towards giving Beathard some credibility. His old Iowa teammate, TE George Kittle, is at least a happy guy, because he’s going to see a lot passes come his way for the next thirteen games.

Unless he gets injured and goes on IR.

Maybe it’s all the dead Indians under Levis. Oh wait, Jimmy got hurt in KC. Well, there are probably a few dead Indians under Arrowhead also.

  2. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Playing the dead Indian card, eh?

Eric Reid signs with the Panthers. I guess that kind of shoots his collusion case in the foot.

Need to dig into this detail later.

Warner is a tremendous pick for us. Also McGlinchey, Westburg, and Staley leading a very good OZ run attack as well.

No doubt CJ and an improved OL are a good combo.
It’s Saleh and D getting punked that drives me nuts.

No surprise with the defense. We’ve wasted two high number one picks on Solomon Thomas and Arik Armstead, who are both no more than average players. Witherspoon gets toasted every week. Our outside LBs are forgetable. Adrian Colbert never makes any plays that I can remember. And nobody can tackle worth shit.

  7. winderNo Gravatar says:

Witherspoon and Colbert shined as the year went on. This year they don’t look close to the players they were. Maybe they thought they were too good for themselves after some success. All I see are major holes all over the defense. We might not see another win all year if they don’t get it together.

Penalties and lack of pass rush killing us.

Armstead offside on 3 rushers on 3rd and long, an obvious passing down.

Supertramp fan skeebs. “Give a little bit” a factor into your title?

NFL Gamepass allows all-22 and full field views. Just need the time.

    Updated 49ers injury report

Out: G Joshua Garnett (toe), CB Richard Sherman (calf)
    Doubtful: S Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder)
Questionable: RB Matt Breida (knee), S Adrian Colbert (hip), RB Alfred Morris (knee), DB Antone Exum (quadricep)

    Jeez.

  11. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Unfortunately, add them up and it may equal the loss of Joey Bosa for the bolts.

  12. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

Clelin is on my list for sure Bakkentom.
Whole D-Line in Clemson is much like last years’ NC State DL.
We got one piece of that Line, although damaged and on the mend. Kent Street.

The only way we win another game this year is if we play a team as beat up as us. I imagine we can stay in a game for about 15 minutes if that.

  14. winderNo Gravatar says:

I think even AZ beats us now.

  15. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

I’m sure CJ is overwhelmed with your belief in him, Winder.

  16. winderNo Gravatar says:

It’s not just CJ. I like CJ but I don’t see the rest of the team coming through. Our running game is hurt but it’s mostly on the defense.

    49ers inactives:

    S Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder)
    CB Richard Sherman (calf)
    G Joshua Garnett (toe)
    WR Richie James
    G Najee Toran
    T Shon Coleman
    DT Jullian Taylor

The price for Leveon Bell is a 2nd rd pick and a player per Rappaport.

Would you give up next year’s second and Armstead or Garnett for him?

Bell is the top running back in the NFL but will want $15 mil a season

Bell is just 25 years old and in his prime

  19. winderNo Gravatar says:

    I would

  20. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

No! Edge in top 5. With Bell fall too many draft slots and not get a top edge. May have to pay in FA for a mobile OZ OG in offseason, if any available. That may cost $12 mil.

  21. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Steelers would trade Bell straight up to Seahags for Earl Thomas.

That would not be good for the Niners

  22. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Niners lead on a pick six

A lot of red in the stands

Bolts left their fans in San Diego

  23. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Dante Pettis and Joe Staley are both OUT with knee injuries.

  24. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

    Lord:

    “Mike McGlinchey (knee) is questionable.”

  25. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

And “Solomon Thomas is down with an injury.”

  26. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Is it too soon to talk about trading Garoppolo?

  27. winderNo Gravatar says:

Even though we made a $hitload of mistakes. The Niners fought a pretty good battle. That in itself made the game watchable.

  28. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

Injuries and mistakes killed us. But Beathard mostly played a decent game for a guy who should not even be on the field. Close but no cigar.
