Dead Air > Hot Air

The 49ers are plodding through their annual Organized Team Activities lately, though nobody seems to be paying much attention to this exertion. Good luck, fellas. Try not to get injured.

As we all know, Reuben Foster is back with the team, having narrowly escaped the end of his football career. His former girl friend, Elissa Ennis, was similarly lucky. She’s now a two-time failure in filing false Domestic Violence reports, spending time in jail over the first claim, but apparently will not be charged in this second effort.

Both of these characters face some tough sledding in the future, though. Foster has run afoul of civilization four times in the past year, so it’s probably wishful thinking to expect him to behave somewhat properly for any extended period of time. Ms. Ennis might be advised to get a legal name change at this point. Any future boy friend applicant would have to think long and hard about hooking up with her.

A lot of Super Bowl talk buzzing around the 49ers these days. That ought to splat against the windshields pretty quickly in the new season.

There’s not much to discuss at the moment, and when that happens some of our commenters think we’d all like to hear about their political views. Where they get this notion is beyond me, since nothing could be further from the truth.

It’s a free country and people can think and say whatever they want about almost anything. This site doesn’t care a fig what your political views are. We’re only interested in your football views. So, we’re not going to hear any more about political views. Whether that’s a voluntary occurrence or an enforced one is up to you.

Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.

Not much happening in 49ers world between OTAs.

Congrats to Warriors for making it to the NBA Finals for the 4th straight time. Certainly the Rockets and their bad or lack of coaching helped. Rockets missed 27 straight 3 pointers and were 7 for 44 from beyond the arc which happens to be 16%. Warriors should win the final in 5 games.

We can’t see it right now but I know everyone of our rookies are practicing to their best ability. That is one of the differences with our new regime, if you slack or think your to good for yourself you won’t be on the team. I don’t like any of the Super Bowl bull because we are definitely not there yet. The best I can see is if we pullout 9 wins, but I still think 8-8 for this year. Anyway, thanks for the no politics stance, that is refreshing in itself.

  3. WinderNo Gravatar says:

case in point, if Baalky drafted a player in the low rounds he made the team whether he could play or not, for years.

That’s the spirit, Skeebers! We suck! We still don’t have Alex Smith back! Waaah!

  5. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

Huh. I never knew that “Super Bowl talk is probably premature” is exactly the same as “We Suck!”.

I’m glad you’re here to tell me these things.

” That ought to splat against the windshields pretty quickly in the new season.”

    is what I’m referring to.

  7. Uncle ChuckNo Gravatar says:

You don’t think we are improving, Grump? I’m curious.

By Skeebs reckoning, we aren’t improving fast enough?

I’m not sure what the expectation is around here. Except for excessive whining.

  8. Uncle ChuckNo Gravatar says:

Skeebs you have the power to shut down the political talk. This is your blog.

I think we might top .500. If everything breaks just right and we stay healthy, ten wins and a wildcard berth. So we have astronomical improvement from the Pre-Shanahan era, when we were LUCKY to win a handful of games. That talent-bereft 2016 team could easily have gone 0-16. But I agree with Skeebs that a Super Bowl is probably fantasy at this point. The team still is unsettled on the O-line. Still question marks at many positions. Getting deep in the playoffs against the best teams is probably a year or two – and a draft or two – away still. We’re halfway up the mountain, more or less. That’s a world of difference from either being at the summit, or down in the valley.

  12. Uncle ChuckNo Gravatar says:

The point being, has anyone here mentioned Super Bowl? No. No one in their right mind says more than a playoff berth as the ultimate bes outcome. It just seems to be a constant stream of negativity here. that’s fine and all, and sure it was deserved for a lot of years, but it just becomes Flying V endlessly bemoaning the Montana years and how the game has changed, why can’t Eddie run the team, blah blah blah.

Hey Now! I’m pretty sure Rob thinks we’re going 16-0 and winning the Super Bowl!

Oh wait. “in their right mind”.

    Never mind.

Looking at our schedule we play all 4 teams of NFC North and AFC West. 2x for each team in our division. Since we were last then the bottom team in NFC South and NFC East.

Slam dunks with JimmyG? Not really.

TB had a terrible pass rush. In FA came Jason Pierre-Paul and Vinny Curry as new DE’s. Vita Vea NT with #12 to go with undertackle Gerald McCoy. Three 2nd picks netted two CB’s and an RB replacement for Doug Martin.

NYG gets Odell Beckham and Sterling Shephard back at WR. At oline Nate Solder LT and Will Hernandez LG with super RB Saquon Barkley. Pat Shurmur knows something about O.

    Neither of these are gimme’s.

Tough jobs for our IOL with TB, LAR, CHI, and GB if Muhammad Wilkerson plays to his capability.

    Interesting and challenging year.

So how does our draft haul compare. I consider Jimmy G part of it. Immediate return of investment nailing the franchise QB. He still has weaknesses with the long ball. McGlinchey, Jimmy G, Dante Pettis, Fred Warner, and Tarvarus Moore seems better than what CLE and IND did. We had the number one draft class in my book.

  23. WinderNo Gravatar says:

It’s all gonna come down to our O-line. If we can protect Jimmy I think we at least go 8-8 and maybe more. I think we are going to hit the 30 point mark more often than not.

  24. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Street & Smith and Athlon Football Annuals are predicting Niners second
in NFC West and a wild card team.

I think the Oline should be improved with Richburg and McGlinchey.
They were playing Beadles at RT at the end of last season. The key is if Garnett or Cooper can be better than average at RG.

The offense can be very dynamic and possibly top tier.

  25. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

It’ll come down to injuries. There is enough talent for a wild card run if everyone stays pretty healthy but not if we have guys going out left and right.

But against playoff teams? That’s at least down the road, and a couple of drafts away. And the biggest caveat there might be KS. His coaching in the Super Bowl with Atlanta was awful in the Second Half. If he does not learn to not outsmart himself trying to be too cute, he could end up a Schottenheimer kind of guy. Always close, but never a champion.

Still, we’re looking to be in better shape than the rudderless Tomsula and Kelly teams.

  26. WinderNo Gravatar says:

Grump- KS has to take some responsibility for Atlanta’s collapse in the second half but so does the HC and the DC. That was one of the biggest chokes I have ever seen.
