What Lies Belief

A week after the Draft, and opinions are running the usual gamut. The glass-half-full guys are focusing on all the good reports, tape, and upside of the drafted boys. Feeling justified in their optimism. The glass-half-empty crowd see the foibles and weaknesses of the same said boys. They feel their skepticism is equally legitimate.

And there’s a third group, fairly new to the blogging arena, that has such disdain for our meddling, spineless, back-stabbing owner that rooting for the 49ers has become a tough deal. Also tough, is caring about the league of players in general during their prolonged middle-finger salute to the country and the league that made them rich and relevant.

The first two groups will be validated or not come September, blood on the tracks during the wait or not, but the third group will not be so easily mollified by a few more wins or losses.

The 2018 season will be defined almost entirely by Jimmy Garoppolo. Without him, this current club is not much better than last year’s 1-10 edition.

The 49ers have exchanged Trent Brown at right tackle for rookie first rounder Mike McGlinchey. That might be a long term upgrade, but in the short term, it’s probably a downgrade.

They’ve definitely upgraded at center, with Weston Richburg replacing the mediocre Dan Kilgore. RB Jerick McKinnon will also likely be an upgrade over Carlos Hyde.

But rookie LB Fred Warner will not be an improvement over a suspended Reuben Foster. And it will be a surprise if detested ex-enemy Dickhead Sherman proves to be an improvement over any of the CBs that worked across from Ahkello Witherspoon last year.

Second round pick Dante Pettis is this year’s biggest question mark. Will he be a home run hitter, a marginal improvement over Trent Taylor, or a complete bust?

But no matter how any of these upgrades/downgrades pan out, it will still all come down to Garoppolo.

Differing opinions are good they kinda bring a sense of reality to things. If someone hates the 49ers so much or is not a 49er fan then why bother even posting here, especially over and over. It just makes them a troll and their intentions obvious. It is more or less just whining.

“The 49ers released veteran OL Zane Beadles.”

So long, Zane. I’d like to say you’ll be missed, but …

Big fan of Ellen Degeneres. Must of went over real well in a football locker room. Buh-bye.

Aints release TE Coby Fleener outright today. Will the Niners take a look at him? He was on IR last year with a concussion and he turns 30 this Sept

So CHI’s #8 Roquan Smith left his door unlocked and the Bears D playbook on an IPAD was stolen. Would they give the D rookie the O playbook too?

These rooks had to be cautioned about protecting that playbook. Valuable to OC’s if it finds its way in their hands. Gives away a lot of secrets. Reads, understand OC ways of attacking and reacting to it, audibles, …

We play them late in December. Bad reflection on the makeup of their Patrick Willis wannabee.

  6. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Do they encrypt stuff like that. They should, this is high dollar entertainment business. Are there ways to prevent it from being login’d, passwords revoked, etc.

They had to have made these playbook’s rookie proof.

  7. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Excited to see if they have Warner as both Will and SS. Confuse the opposing QB and OC enough to win some games? He is supposed to be sharp.

Weaponize the roster a little bit.

Able to wipe the iPad clean of all playbook info. Happened before no doubt.

Fleener probably a Pat before log.

“The 40-yard dash gets all the attention, but some NFL personnel evaluators think the three-cone drill, which measures a player’s quickness in changing direction, is a better measurement of athleticism relevant to football”

Niners use cover 3, the 2 outside CB’s and FS split coverage of the backfield in thirds. Warner both Will and SS. I rest my case.

Seems like the Santa Clara DA has an ax to grind.

This allegation should’ve come out at when Foster was arraigned.

This DA did mention he wanted to make an example of Foster and said at the start he would push this even without the “alleged victims” cooperation.

  13. WinderNo Gravatar says:

Maybe the DA is a Raider fan. Whatever, the whole Foster situation has turned into a media circus which is what they love. I doubt a jury will convict him of DV but they will get him for something. He is probably gone for most of the year if not all.

I just hope our newly drafted guys live up their potential because if they do we are gonna have one of the fastest, hard hitting defensive backfields in the league. Should be fun to see how this all unfolds.

  14. Uncle ChuckNo Gravatar says:

I think the ex- has lost a bit of her credibility, eh? I’ll bet he didn’t feed her goldfish as well. When the case becomes agenda-ized it loses all relevance to the facts of the case. The Niner have been burned in acting too slow (RayMac), acting hastily (Brock) and are hosed no matter what due to the circus aspect of these proceedings.

We know where you stand, skeebs. Well, kneel. At the feet of NoFeer. If you don’t like the state of the game, at least quit whining about it.

  15. WinderNo Gravatar says:

The DA will stretch this out as long as they can. It’s gonna turn out where everyone looks bad in the end.

  16. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

OL Mike Person is back with the Niners after wandering through the NFL wilderness for the past seven years. Is his fan club still active?

  17. WinderNo Gravatar says:

How funny, Beedles(sp) must have been worse than I thought.

  18. WinderNo Gravatar says:

They probably picked him us because he can play center in an emergency.

  19. NoFearNo Gravatar says:

What’s next? Aldon Smith and Shit7torm reunited in SC?

Lots of guys from that Niners’ draft unemployed. Luckily the 49ers now have a GM with the scouting/personnel expertise to see through all the bad plays obscuring real talent.

  20. WinderNo Gravatar says:

The current scouting staff does seem to know what they are doing. I am sure not all of the picks are keepers but they definitely are targeting specific types of players. This year should be a telling sign if we are getting it right. So far the only blemish I can see is the Foster situation but that is a big costly one.

    Oh what a date
it was, it really was … such a date

  22. WinderNo Gravatar says:

Yeah, but it must have been the guys fault to begin with.

Maybe this was posted earlier. NFL.com did some path to the draft articles and #44 was one of them. Lengthy but light reading.

    http://www.nfl.com/labs/rr/pathtothedraft/pettis

The team took a different path in the draft this year. As far as overall rankings go, wonder who was higher: Pettis or Moore.

  29. bakkentomNo Gravatar says:

Here is a NN article on the above with Pettis.

    https://www.ninersnation.com/2018/5/12/17346964/49ers-draft-picks-2018-dante-pettis-kyle-shanahan-offensive-system

One asset is the other athletes molding him. Seems like full playbook, adjustments post snap, etc. will be absorbed and Jimmy G will know where he is and in sync for the given D shown to both.

    New post is up.
