And Away We Go …

Talk has been cheap. It’s been abundant. It’s mostly been fun. But today, the gabaloney ends and the San Francisco 49ers take the field against the Green Bay Packers. Time to put up or be put down. We’re a cruel bunch, 9er guys. You do not want to get on our bad side!

For the moment, however, we are all smiles and full of lofty hopes. Across the fields and high atop the NFL peaks of excellence sits the Lombardi Trophy. The Holy Grail. Will our boys be waving that gaudy icon around in jubilant triumph next February? Or will we be milling around dejectedly in the streets along with the other delusional clowns, looking for our escaped goats?

It all begins today. Below are the final prognosticatory efforts from those of our readers who cared to vote:

    Game day!

I’m liking my 9-7 prediction more and more seeing I’m the only one who took it. I like being the only winner. Or loser. It’s not only lonely at the top, but it’s pretty quiet down on the bottom as well.
    .
34-20 Aaron Rodgers and Berger bitches at the refs and our offensive formations. If you think Harbaugh is going to morph into “Mouse” Davis, you’re in for a big surprise.

  3. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

That’s why I went with 13-3. Nobody else did and everyone says we can’t hope to repeat what we did last year.

  4. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

“And away we go…” I loved Jackie Gleason. I grew up watching “The Honeymooners.” Still watch all the reruns today.

  5. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

One of the greatest shows of all time.

  6. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Matty “Stinks on Ice” to Julio Jones. TOUCHDOWN!!!
    .
I love me some fantasy points.

  7. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

That makes FOUR TDs (1 rush) for Stinks on Ice.
You guys know my first rule of drinking: Never run out of ice.

  8. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Inactives, QB Tolzien, WR Ginn Jr., RB James, RB Jacobs, G Looney, TE Celek and NT Williams.
    .
Berger gets his wish, A.J. suits up. Now will he play? He’s the 5th WR and 6th or 7th receiver behind the TEs. Can we go 6 wide?

  9. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Where the heck is everybody? It’s game day and this place is a morgue. Don’t tell me you’re at church. Aunt Esther and I know better…You all a bunch of heathens. Hallelujah! Praise the Lord.

  10. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

The Rams just took the lead with < 2 mins to go in Detroit.
I didn't see that coming, and neither did you. But here come the Lions…

  11. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

    Tough luck, Rams. Haha.

  12. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Even worse than being a democrat? Having your fantasy QB throw for 299 yds and missing out on the bonus. Stinks on Ice came up 1 yd short. But I ain’t complaining. Matty drove the ice truck today. Bravo.

  13. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

I forgot to add, that Lions winning TD came via one of my other fantasy players, Kevin Smith.
    .
I’m having a very good fantasy day so far. Bear in mind, I have Aaron Rogers as well. My luck has to run out some time.

Sometimes it hurts to be right on the money. Penalty on Aldon for throwing his helmet? Berger, don’t tell me you’re not bitching. But you wanted these replacements.

  15. LBNo Gravatar says:

1st TD for Moss as 49er. Think they might guard him next time?

  16. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Berger must have loved that last 3rd and 1 call from the SCO.
    .
Might as well bring back Jimmy Raye. Hey, Berger. Jimmy’s head just hit the table again. [bonk]

  17. Del Mar DennisNo Gravatar says:

Hey, Berger. You REALLY must have loved that call on the KR that just netted the Pack at TD. Jesus. H. Christ. Block in the back? Not with these refs.
    .
Calling a Dr. Ben Dover, Ben Dover white courtesy phone please.

  18. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

    How sweet it is!

  19. tonyNo Gravatar says:

    14-2 is still alive 🙂

  20. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Great win. It is very obvious that
these officials are doing the best they can but just can’t handle this level of play.
The main reason for all the late flags is if you complain loudly enough the flag will come out.
Just watched the end of the Seahag game (Petey lost). The officials gave Seattle a timeout they didn’t have with 30 seconds left. That was like giving them an extra down because they might have spiked the ball to kill the clock.

  21. bullitNo Gravatar says:

Damn that FG that Akers hit tied
for the all time longest at 63 yards. What a kick!
Philly’s kicker missed another 45 yd FG wide left.
Letting Akers go is one of the biggest blunders and bad decisions that Andy Reid has made.
Impressive that Akers kick was outdoors in the elements and not at altitude (Denver).
Niners have the best kicker in the NFL.

  22. BergerNo Gravatar says:

Nice win! All the experts are saying Alex out perfomed Rodgers. His QB rating was about 125. It sure helps to have open receivers to throw to. Great game by Gore.

  23. unca_chuckNo Gravatar says:

    How bout them refs, Bergs?

  24. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

    Officiating sucked big time.
These guys were on a National Game too.
Think they get some scrutiny this week?
Nice to grab a Win from GB.
Could pay dividends at the end of the Season.
    Our D was outstanding.

    We have arrived Gentlemen.
Let the naysayers have the seats.

  26. BergerNo Gravatar says:

These refs remind me of the complaining we do about the regular refs. Some things never change.

  27. BergerNo Gravatar says:

This can’t be a good day for the Alex haters. They had to watch him out duel the league MVP.
