The 49ers ran their late season winning streak to four games Sunday, beating the Jaguars and improving their record to 5-10.
Before the game started, the Rams beat the Titans, which clinched the AFC South for Jacksonville and the NFC West for Los Angeles, thus ensuring the Niners would finish the season with two games against teams with nothing to play for.
The Jaguars spent the first quarter looking like a team that wanted to be popping champagne, not popping shoulder pads with a lesser species. When the score hit 16-0, Jacksonville appeared to regain their dignity and promptly ran off 19 unanswered points to take a three point lead.
Then QB Blake Bortles turned into qb blake bortles, the old model of Bortledom, who couldn’t play a lick. Two more interceptions to go with the first half pick six and suddenly the Niners were up 37-19 in the fourth quarter. The Jags rallied a bit, but it was too little too late.
Still, before Jimmy Garoppolo came along, the 49ers could lose to anybody who threw 22 guys out on the field to play them. But if you don’t bring your A game at them now, you’re going to get beat. Just ask Jacksonville. When they’re done celebrating their first trip to the postseason since 2003.
The rest of the league has not had to pay much attention to the new Niners, but that will not be the case next year.
Merry Christmas, Skeebs. Looks like Jimmy and the new niners have given you hope for 2018. I think Shannie and Jimmy are a dynamic duo.

Merry Christmas outsiders.
Merry Christmas Outsiders
Pats have given the Niners the best Christmas gift ever in Jimmy G.
“Rams coach Sean McVay told the media in Thousand Oaks that he will probably rest his starters for the season finale against the 49ers.”
That really sucks. It makes sense but still sucks. I hope we put 65 on them.
Also I bet the fans that pay top dollar are thrilled about that. A late pre-season game.
Garoppolo now owns the record for QB with most yardage in first four games with a team.
In NFL history.
This has been the craziest 49er year ever.
“Goff, Gurley, Donald, Whitworth + Sullivan will not play Sunday. Sean Mannion will get the start at QB.”
Looks like we’ll finish the season with five straight wins.
MMQB has a must read piece on Frank Gore

“Chiefs QB Alex Smith will become the first player in *NFL HISTORY* to have 5 straight seasons of 3,000+ yards and 10 or fewer interceptions. Has 4,042 yds, 26 TDs, 5 INTs in 2017.”
Impressive, especially the interception rate.
Yes, good enough for yet another ticket out of town.
That’s probably ok with him. He will get another 25+ mil job.
And another season circles the drain today.
49ers inactives
DE Aaron Lynch
WR Max McCaffrey
RB Jeremy McNichols
DB Antone Exum
DE Pita Taumoepenu
DL Leger Douzable
DL D.J. Jones
Skeebs – Yes it does. But what a wonderful drain it is.
“Frank Gore finished today’s game with 100 yards on 24 rushing attempts.”
Two months ago sitting at 0-9, how many people would have bet on the 49ers finishing 6-10? I doubt Vegas would have even bothered giving you odds on it.
Hell of a way to finish the year. Nothing is guaranteed, but at least these is some reason for guarded optimism again.
New post is up.
