The stock price of Nick Mullens, Inc surged upward Sunday in New Jersey as he directed a thorough and relentless butt-kicking of the hapless New York Giants. Mullens completed 25 of 36 to ten different receivers while racking up 343 yards.
Rookie WR Brandon Aiyuk had a breakout game, catching 5 passes for 70 yards and running three times for another 31. With Deebo Samuel possibly returning this week from three games on IR, along with Kendrick Bourne, Mohamed Sanu, and Trent Taylor, the Niners’ receiving unit finally has a chance to be a dangerous group.
The 49ers had nine drives in the game, none of which ended with a punt. One ended with a missed FG, another was a three down game ending kneel job, and the other seven drives all resulted in points. The Giants simply could not stop the Niners’ offense.
The injury-wracked defense was missing its top three CBs but got a huge boost when the never-endingly injured Jason Verrett stepped in and actually played a entire game without getting carted off the field! Shades of Jimmie Ward finally escaping the injury jinx last year. At least for one game. If he manages to stay healthy, a pairing of him and Sherman would help dilute the loss of both of the team’s top pass rushers.
But defenses are not doing well throughout the league this year. Every game seems to be a shoot out, with scores in the thirties common place. Not sure if that is an early season aberration or a 2020 trend. We’ll see.
Next up is a home game against the even more injury riddled Philadelphia Eagles, who are so banged up they could only manage a tie against the woeful Bengals. The Niners won’t get any more help from a soft schedule after that game, though. After the Miami game, the rest of the schedule is a gauntlet against some of the best teams in the league. They could easily lose six or seven in a row if they’re not at their best.
The Niners have to figure a way to keep Mullens around. You can see the progress he’s made and was clutch in 3rd downs. I know we played the Giants but our guys played lights out. Pure joy.
Reed out 6 to 8 weeks. Ford out this week, maybe goes on IR.
Jordan Reed has a sprained MCL.
Status of Samuel, Garoppolo and Kittle will be determined by how they prcatice on Wed
Sherman is eligible to come off IR against Miami Wk 5.
Niners are bringing in long snappers on Tues and this could be end of the road for Nelson.
Geez the whole town of Calistoga has been evacuated.

A few months ago this was happening in Australia where they had massive wildfires.
Sorry but you are a moron if you don’t see the climate changing.
A lot of roster activity made today per Maiocco. Deebo Samuel is now off IR and playing status will be determined on how he practices.
“Prior to taking the practice field, the 49ers announced some roster moves, including the signing of long-snapper Taybor Pepper. The 49ers waived veteran long-snapper Kyle Nelson, who had five bad snaps in Sunday’s game.
Nelson had been the team’s primary long-snapper since 2014.
The club signed tight end Daniel Helm off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ practice squad and placed Jordan Reed on injured reserve. The 49ers also placed linebacker Mark Nzeocha on injured reserve with a quadriceps injury.
The 49ers made two signings to the practice squad, adding offensive lineman Cody Conway and tight end Charlie Taumoepeau. The 49ers released offensive lineman William Sweet from the practice squad.”
George Kittle is a full-go at practice today.

Damn. We’re a couple more injuries away from pulling some poor SoB out of the stands to play cornerback.
The Egos are the right team for this week.
Their Oline is in shambles, Wentz is playing like a rookie and they have one healthy receiver. Just what the doctor ordered.
Niner D needs to shut their TEs down.
Cam Newton tests positive, out for the Chiefs game.
Looks like Belichick forgot to pay his weekly dues to the Devil.

OH FUDGE!!!
Glaring example of how shaky our OL is when facing a stout DL.
Nick laid a turd and Shanny wasted too many opportunities IMO.
Not looking at all like the 11-5 team I predicted, for sure.
Embarrassing performance. Even for cardboard fans.
Again. I ask.
Has Jed made peace with the Ohlone Indian Nation?
Me thinks NOT.
