49ers 34, Raiders 10

For a preseason game, Sunday’s trashing of the Raiders was quite entertaining. It’s always fun to crush the Raiders, of course, but using a shuttle system at QB as misdirection while running the ball down their throats was a Kyle Shanahan treat and a bit of toying with Jon Gruden thrown in. A double dose of in-your-face.

For his part, Gruden was a bit eccentric also in playing Nathan Peterman at QB for the entire game. Not sure what he was attempting to ascertain here, but Peterman was just as ineffective against the Niner fourth stringers as he was against the first string. An equal opportunity meh performance.

Here’s the top four RB’s stats for the game:

Gallman: 13/60 (4.6 ypc)
Hasty: 6/55 (9.2)
Mostert: 7/53 (7.6)
Sermon: 7/37 (5.3)

Not too shabby. 49ers are going to run wild this year.

But first, they have to trim the roster to 53 players by Tuesday at 4pm ET. This would normally be a solemn occasion, watching all these poor rejects booted out the door to an uncertain future, but this year we’re going to just admit we couldn’t really give a shit. You had your chance! WE WANT WINNERS!

Just kidding. Almost. Somewhat.

There will be a handful of players, or less, whose release or retention surprises us. But any player this far down the list of importance is not worth shedding any tears for or celebrating wildly for hanging onto the last rung of the roster.

At any rate, the bullshit season has ended and the real season begins in two weeks. Which gives everyone extra time this year to ponder before weighing in with their prognostication for this year’s record.

Before cutdown the Niners made a trade with Denver

The #49ers are sending LB Jonas Griffith and a 2022 seventh-round pick to the #Broncos for a 2022 sixth-round pick and 2023 seventh-round pick, per source.

Also Trey Lance tweaked the index finger on his right hand by hitting a helmet on his follow through in Sunday’s game.
He chipped the bone and just needs to rest it for a week.

My prediction Niners go 12-5 and difference will be the defense.

  3. bullitNo Gravatar says:

I should say difference is the Defense, healthy Jimmy G , Mostert, Kittle, Deebo, Bosa , Ford and addition of Mack.

I also love watching the Raiders get hammered. I really doubt Gruden is too upset about anything since his 100mil contract is guaranteed. All he has to do is make some faces for the camera and all’s good. I don’t like seeing any good players go. Personally I think we should expand the practice squad and make the players on it untouchable for at least the first year.

Okay, this is a bit wowish:

“Patriots have released QB Cam Newton.”

Opens the Pats/Texans discussion again perhaps?
Deshaun to Miami heating up, if we buy the Stephen Ross angle.

Throw down your cards time in the NFL in a couple of hours.

A lot of speculation about Cam and no Covid vax as a ticket out the door as well.
Forfeiture of games is a huge liability, especially considering the QB position.

Cousins’ money is guaranteed in MN.
    See how that plays out.

  8. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

Will Hurd finally get shown the door?
Or, do they protect him and expose Jauan with the hope of bringing him back to the P-Squad?

    San Francisco 49ers roster cuts
    OL Senio Kelemete
    C Jake Brendel
    RB Josh Hokit
    TE MyCole Pruitt
    S Ha Ha Clinton-Dix
    WR Travis Benjamin
    WR Nsimba Webster
    DB Alexander Myres
    TE Jordan Matthews

McKivitz got waived, so I guess he hasn’t been setting the world on fire.

  11. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

McKivitz couldn’t beat out Brunskill. Banks hasn’t set the world on fire either yet but he’s got time to figure it out.

A little surprised about Ha Ha, but maybe we can bring him back on the PS.

I was going to say 12-5 but since Bullit took that I’ll go with 13-4. As long as Bosa and Ford can hold up physically we’ve got a deadly pass rush, and we can win 8 or 9 games just running the ball down peoples’ throats. The rest will depend on Jimmy staying healthy, or Trey beating the learning curve.

Biggest bust: Shon Coleman goes on IR again. We have Jack and Shit to show for ever signing that guy.

  12. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

Welcome back, Grump. Thought maybe you’d left us.

  13. winderNo Gravatar says:

I think 12-5 also and I think we lose most of those to our division.

  14. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

    49ers practice squad:

    DL Alex Barrett
    WR Travis Benjamin
    WR River Cracraft
    DL Darrion Daniels
    OL Alfredo Gutierrez*
    FB Josh Hokit
    OL Corbin Kaufusi
    OL Senio Kelemete
    TE Jordan Matthews
    S Jared Mayden
    OL Colton McKivitz
    QB Nate Sudfeld
    LB Elijah Sullivan

The starting secondary has changed their jersey numbers.
It’s a cute stunt as long as they don’t embarrass themselves.
They should listen to Sir Paul McCartney and “Let It Be”

    #1 Ward, FS
    #2 Verrett, CB
    #3 Tartt, SS
    #4 Moseley, CB

  16. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

“49ers have agreed to terms with veteran free agent corner Josh Norman to bolster their secondary.”

  17. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

Takes the Sr CB position once held by Sherman I suspect?
Vet presence to mentor the cubs.

  18. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

Skeebs I’m late to the prognostication parade….

I’m going with 11-6 this season.

  19. bullitNo Gravatar says:

It looks like the Ravens are the snakebit team this year. Today they lost starting RB Gus Edwards and CB Marcus Peters to potential torn ACLs on consecutive plays in practice.
Last week they lost starter JK Dobbins RB and backup Justice Hill to knee injuries.
They just signed Le’veon Bell as insurance.

Hard blow to survive when your top 3 RBs go down before first snap.

  20. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

“49ers Week 1 injury report vs. Lions

    Out: WR Jalen Hurd (knee)
Doubtful: CB Emmanuel Moseley (knee), DT Javon Kinlaw (knee)
    Questionable: DT Kevin Givens (hip)”

  21. SkeebersNo Gravatar says:

    “49ers inactives:

    CB Emmanuel Moseley
    DT Javon Kinlaw
    RB Trey Sermon
    CB Josh Norman
    OL Aaron Banks”

  22. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

Early take after one half: This looks like a classic, “playoff-bound team beats the holy Hell out of an inferior opponent in their own house.”

We’ll know more after Seattle and Arizona / weeks 4 and 5, but this looks like a good start.

  23. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

And we got really sloppy late and damned near gave it away.

If Verrett blew his ACL things just got tougher.

  24. winderNo Gravatar says:

We got lucky to win that game. You can’t sleep on any team.

  25. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

The upside in the Secondary is Lenoir.

‘The rookie fifth-round draft pick out of Oregon played all 90 snaps at the second cornerback position Sunday and fared well. Per NFL’s Next Gen Stats, Lenoir was targeted just four times in 55 coverage snaps and surrendered just one catch for 3 yards.’

Excellent report card for a rookie debut.

  26. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

That’s awesome. We may need Ambry Thomas or someone else to step up big time now, too.

Sucks for Verrett. Some guys can’t buy a break.

  27. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

Signing Dre Kirkpatrick to replace Verrett, who’s gone for the season (ACL).

  28. Grumpy GuyNo Gravatar says:

Mostert out for maybe 8 weeks.

  29. NJ49erNo Gravatar says:

    WOW….RIP Parys Haralson
