49ers 2, Gauntlet 0.
Wins are always enjoyable, but demolishing the Patriots in their own park is about as sweet as it gets. This was a thorough butt-kicker special, from beginning to end.
Can’t say I saw this one coming. The defense was dominant, the offense unstoppable. And the Patriots played about as bad as you’ll ever see them play. As bad as the Niners played when the Dolphins walloped them a few weeks back.
Brandon Aiyuk picked up 115 yards receiving and Jeff Wilson ran for 112 yards. TOP was a lopsided 38 minutes for the Niners and 21 for the Patriots. Total yardage, 467 to 241.
But it wouldn’t be life to hand out a perfect day. And sure enough, late in the game, Wilson picked up a high ankle sprain on his third TD run of the day, while Deebo Samuel went out with some sort of hamstring issue. That will leave the Niners short-handed next week when they travel to Seattle. Not good.
JaMycal Hasty should fill in nicely for Wilson next week – assuming he can get through a whole game without getting injured, too. But not having Samuel will definitely hurt.
At least the defense got through the game without any injuries, unless somebody tripped getting on the plane home and broke an ankle. CB Jason Verrett has really solidified that unit this year. And why not, in a season with injuries occurring at an astronomical rate, it should be a guy who’s been injured his whole career who should step in, stay healthy, and play lights out. Knock on wood.
AND they scored points in the 2nd half. A real breakthrough.
Jamar Taylor had an excellent game as the slot corner in place of Ka’wuan Williams with 2 picks. He’s a 30 year old CB from
Boise State who was a 2nd round draft pick of the Dolphins in 2013.
Hroniss Grasu filled in at center for Garland and was solid.
He’s 29 and was a 3rd round pick of da Bears in 2015 out of Oregon.
The roster is peppered with players who were high picks and didn’t get the big second contracts so they do have talent.
Also Juszczyk had an outstanding game ruuning, catching and blocking and scoring. His reception of a ball he had to lay out for was a thing of beauty.
This game against the Seahags I had as one of their 3 toughest games of the season and possibly one of the 5 losses in my prognostication.
One thing is for certain, Seattle will not be the hostile environment and home field advantage from years past.
Wilson is having a runaway MVP season but he threw 3 picks last night, a crucial one in OT that decided the game.
The game will be a huge challenge but Shanahan is a mad scientist with his offensive schemes so this will be fun.
It’s to early for me to think about next week. I am just thrilled for the whole Niner organization. With everything that’s gone on with the team so far it was a welcome sight to see us stomp the Pats in their house. Hopefully Deebo’s injury isn’t serious and that he’ll be back soon. Looks like we will have to find another rb from somewhere before next week. i haven’t looked at our PS yet so not sure if we even have any rb’s on it.
Winder
There is a chance that Tevin Coleman will be available
How about this one?
Trade the 49er’s own 7th round pick to the Jest and bring Frank Gore home.
Two possible trades being floated on ESPN
Trade Dante Pettis for TE David Njoku straight up.
Tarvarius Moore S for DE Ryan Kerrigan WFT,
Both Njoku and Kerrigan will be Unrestricted Free Agents nezt year
Will they keep Moore because he would replace Taart or Wrad next year
I love the Gore idea.
Seahags made a move today and traded for DE Carlos Dunlap from the Bungles. Niners won’t face him this week because he has to be cleared of Covad19 going to another team.
There are a lot of players being dangled out there for trade.
Cowgurls will part with Amari Cooper for a #1 draft pick,
“All three IR guys have a chance to play this week, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said, referring to Tevin Coleman, Jordan Reed and K’Waun Williams.”
RIP Sir Sean Connery who passed away at age 90
The name is Bond, James Bond…

If both Shaquill Griffin and Jamal Adams Don’t play this week then I kinda like our chances up there.
All 3 Seahag RBs are banged up and none are healthy.
Petey is saying they are all game time decisions.
Maybe they’ll suit up Marshawn again.
Seahags asked Cowgurls if Aldon Smith was available for a trade.
Cowgurls said no.
Petey loves Niner players on his roster.
Tevin Coleman and K’Wuan Williams activated from IR which means they will get some snaps tomorrow.
Bullet I’m already hoping your LB Ossai will be available for us in the Draft
Texas Tech CB Zech McPhearson looks good too
PSU transfer
NJ you read my mind.
Ossai is on an upward trajectory and might have gone fro 3rd rounder to first round.
Keep an eye on him.
He was a monster today on Halloween and Texas wins in OT.
I’m already thinking OT OLB OG as needs in April.
Ossai didn’t quit the entire afternoon.
Very impressed.
Of course, we still need to address the DB positions too.
I can see some movement before Tuesday as well.
Our moves are gonna be very limited if we do any at all. We are already over our cap space. I would give the link but it’s from the Athletic from a couple of days ago.
Yeah I really didn’t think this was going to be our year with everyone hurt. Nothing I saw today changes that. We’re a .500 team right now. If that. Not going to change much until next year.
Cue the backup quarterback bandwagon again. I’ve lost track, is it going to be Beathard or Mullens now? Hint: It does not matter this year.
Dante Pettis might have just played his last play with the Niners with his fumble.
I was hoping he could somehow turn it around but he’s a total bust and it’s a shame because they could use productive wideouts.
Not good that it’s a short week with Packers coming in Thursday
At this point if Kittle goes down for any length of time – Sit Jimmy too and, see where we are between CJ and Nick.
I’m not, and haven’t been, sold on Jimmy to begin with.
Pettis should be gone, and likely will be. The sooner the better.
Our OLine needs an infusion of ‘NASTY’.
Nice to have all this nimble zone blocking stuff and all but, we don’t stand up to pressure well when it’s needed.
Injuries are off the charts now. Can’t expect much from the remainder of the schedule.
Play the evaluation game.
Maybe some opportunities with McKivitz and McGlinchy splitting OT reps?
I’m about tuned out now.
Garcia not mincing any words – He thinks Nick processes Defenses quicker and, runs the Offense better than Jimmy.
Given the head start Jimmy has had, it doesn’t speak well for him by comparison.
Takeo Spikes also weighs in, on whether it’s the OLine or, the QB calls to set protections.
All in all, I’m still not sold on Jimmy as the answer.
‘Nuff said Donte…
“Right now, I don’t think Garoppolo puts fear in defenses in the National Football League,” Whitner said on “49ers Postgame Live.” “I think the papers are out on him. They understand that they can press these guys, he doesn’t really want to push the ball down the field, it seems like he doesn’t want to make mistakes. But you can’t win like that in the National Football League.”
Speaking of kickoff returns it seems that a touchback and a start at the 25 yard line would be the better choice than returning a ball out of the end zone. Just guessing it would seem to me that of 10 kickoffs fielded you might have 2 returned beyond the 25 yd line.
I would say of 100 kickoffs maybe 1 goes for a TD and maybe 15 get returned beyond the 40.
And no matter the return the possibility of a penalty for a hold or block in the back happens at least 20% of the time which means you are starting around the 15.
Not scientific but it seems like the touchback and starting at the 25 is the way to go.
Would be interested if there are analytics about this.
