Well, that didn’t inspire a lot of optimism for 49er fans.
Jimmy Garoppolo’s five game tour de force at the end of the 2017 season looks like a distant memory now. His performance against Denver Monday night was flat out awful. QB rating of 0.0, 1 completion in 6 attempts for zero yards with one interception. Still, he hadn’t played in nearly a year and was only in the game for three drives. We’ll put the tar and feathers on hold for a bit longer.
CJ Beathard looked about the same as last year, back-pedaling into a 9 yard sack and fumbling the ball. His signature play. Sorry, but this guy isn’t long for the team. Nick Mullens is clearly the better option for backup QB.
On the plus side, Richie James looked good as a kick returner and Raheem Mostert is a terrific third string running back.
Kentavius Street looked fairly good out there after spending his rookie year on IR. Another big body for the D-line rotation, which figures to be the strength of the team this coming year.
Jaquiski Tartt was all over the field, including a brief visit to the injury tent. Another pretty good player who can’t stay healthy. The team is loaded with these kinds of guys.
If it’s any consolation, Denver looked worse than the Niners. Although their first string guys marginally out-played our first string guys in a battle of gaggingly ineffective football.
Another preseason yawner in the books. Two more to go until we take anything seriously about anything.
I didn’t get a chance to see most of the game but watching the so called highlights what stuck with me was that our WR’s were not getting separation. I thought our offense was so creative that it put defenses on their heels. I haven’t seen that yet. And our OL looked terrible. Maybe next week.
Agree, Winder. I should have mentioned it. The WRs sucked.
That first half was ugly.
Garoppolo needs to play three quarters in the next game. He needs the snaps to show he can run this offense or its going to be painful in Week One.
Wishnowsky’s decleating of the returner was one of the highlights
Ronnie Lott would be proud as he was seeking the returner and wiped him out at the 20.

Grumpy
Agreed he should play as long as it takes to knock the rust off.
Shanahan might consider playing Garoppolo in game 4 for at least a quarter to get into rhythm.
#66 Toran needs to keep the guy he’s blocking engaged rather then letting him freelance and knock balls down. #66 also got called for holding at least twice so he might not be the answer even as a backup.

sounds like we are just replacing scrubs
Per Barrows of THE ATHLETIC
“Kyle Shanahan’s analysis is that Garoppolo, who hadn’t played since Sept. 23, simply needed to get back into a rhythm, something he’ll have a better opportunity to do Saturday against the Chiefs.
The 49ers head coach said he wanted to see Garoppolo and the 49ers’ first-team offense play about a half against the Chiefs. If they string together some long, productive drives they could be pulled midway through the second quarter. If there are a lot of three-and-out series, they could even make an appearance in the third quarter.”

Are you kidding me?
Bucs just signed Vinny Testaverde to replace Blaine Gabbert who was hurt in their last game.
It’s wait until next year for Mr Gabbert.
Wow. “Andrew Luck has informed the Colts he is retiring from the NFL.”
Turns out Bucs signed Vincent Testaverde the son of Vinny.
I was amazed at first because Vinny is 55 years old and didn’t know his son was a QB.
Niners win
Jimmy G has normal game so talk radio can settle down.
Luck’s retirement is a shock to the Colts.
Perhaps they can get a 4th round pick for Beathard?
If they are keeping 2 QBs then Beathard is trade bait.
Shouldn’t keep 3 QBs anyway because if your first 2 QBS go down you are in sad shape anyway and are probably playing for draft position so get what you can for your third stringer.
Lamar Miller went down today for Houston so they might be interested in someone like Jeff Wilson as he is their 5th RB if MacKinnon can go.
Getting a 5th for him is better than nothing if you cut him.
Niners also have some tough decisions to make with their Dlinemen.
Many of the backups have looked pretty decent.
Should bed interesting as they cut down to 75 this week
Colts fan boo Andrew Lucks in an embarrassing moment that they will live to regret boo Luck as he is leaving the field after learning he is retiring. No class move by some selfish and clueless fans.

Can’t conceive Niner fans would boo Patrick Willis for retiring because of his injuries.
Colts fans who live in America’s Heartland need to get a life and show some class.
Wow. What a black eye for Indianapolis. That’s the kind of crap you’s expect in Philly.
New post is up.
